1.
that eub is really nice, what make is it etc etc etc?
It's a Zeta something or other. It was a great bass; ash body, with an arched rosewood fretboard and had a 34" scale length. Not well known on this side of the pond but a cracking EUB.

Informative stuff. Makes me want a Sadowsky even more. Also, the Patitucci film on that website is excellent and is well worth forking over the cash.

  3. I'm fairly partial to Wicks myself. I must have worked my way through their entire range by now and still the stage one streamer is by far the best. I'd love to get my hands on an all wenge neck job. Actually, what are the woods on this one. An early example like this might have a cherry body instead of maple. Nice :)

  4.
That SEi is lovely! Nice Status, too. Glad you kept it in the end?
Yeah, I'm pretty happy I kept it. It'll make a nice contrast to the Sei which is obviously far more mellower. The Status will take yer head off and begs to be smanked by comparison. Definitely a bass thats worth a refurbishment to restore to its former glory. New hardware and fretdress is a must with possibly a high gloss laquer added. The walnut body wood is pretty good lucking for what is supposed to have a been a budget line Status!. And maybe a new Status pre.

    ......the spending continues :)

  5.
Unfortunately, the photos on the site don't do it justice.

jmanfunk - Great Sei bass. Good to see another owner on here
Great to be an owner of a Sei bass :) Thanks for the heads up on the other thread too Mark. I'll wander over there. I'll also try to dig up some pics of my last Sei bass- flamboyant six fretless.

    EDIT: here we go

  6. I got this in a trade with Nonkel26 (Dirk) through this forum. Great guy to deal with and shows just how fantastic this community is, as recent events have demonstrated.

    Specs:

Mahogany body

Ebony board

Ebony/flamed maple neckthrough

Bartolini pups and pre.
Not sure what the top wood is. Maple with an amber stain perhaps? Looks gorgeous anyaway.

Sounds like a very refined jazz oddly enough.

On a sidenote, heres my backup Status energy

  7.
As a result of this thread, I'm now downloading Raphael Saadiq's album. That's the good thing about Napster To Go ...you get wind of something and the next thing you know you are listening to it. Plus, it's 100% legal, with artists (including the album I recorded with Angie Shaw) getting royalties from this channel.

Sorry, if I sound like I work for the company. I don't!
Its a great album. His previous records are supposed to be good too. Also, first I've heard of Napster to Go. It sounds like an excellent idea with the small exception of the time you can actually have the stuff for. Cheers for that anyway!

  8. Raphael Saadiq's latest offering- 'The Way I see it' Its an absolutely stunning album. Purely retrospective encompassing Motown, Stax and Hot Wax sounds. So, it grooves hard!

And if you're not familiar with Saadiq, he is a very talented and ubiquitous producer and monster bass player with a strong Jamerson influence. He also handles drum, bass, guitar and vocal duties on this record.

    Easy,

    Jay

  9. Fantastic jam as usual Mike. It's great seeing your playing develop through you tube; the four finger technique especially. Keep posting clips. :) Also, what looper are you using?

    Jay.

  10.
Man that seems a lot of bass for £410, shame i have no money and can't really justify another bass! good luck though, it looks sweet
Thanks very much. Sunday bump.

  11. I caught their set at the the Cork Jazz festival a few weeks ago. Nothing short of transcendent. Every member brought something unique to the ensemble. I thought Garret's and indeed Corea's playing was exceptional. McLaughlin did leave me a little underwhelmed but far less so than when I've seen him with his 4th dimension group.

And yes, McBride is truly a master at doubling. I hadn't heard much of his electric playing before but he was right on it that night; funky as hell on that fretless Pensa. But his arco playing accompanying Chick during the opening bars of a tune I didn't recognise made the hairs on my neck stand on end! Reminiscent of Paul Chambers.

I encourage everyone, jazz afficianado or not, to catch them during this tour. I doubt there'll be another opportunity.

    A wee taste :) :

  12.
Really nice piece of wood and graphite there, what is the difference between this model and the Matrix is one thru neck?
This should answer your question- well, Nick a.k.a. Doctor Bass clarified this over on Statii.com

"The Matrix range first appeared around about `90 and consisted of the following models:

    1. Matrix Energy - bolt-on graphite neck with walnut, mahogany or cherry body - active treble boost eq. Normally had two J pickups.
    2. Matrix Series I - thru-neck (graphite), normally a P + J config although Rob also did a J + J system, stacked bass and treble EQ.
    3. Matrix Series II - basically a Series II with the headstock!
    4. Matrix Empathy - top end model with `Powerband' midrange EQ (stacked frequency+cut/boost), plus stacked bass + treble - 11 piece body with matched front and rear facings!"

So this is a Matrix Energy technically.

  13. This bass has been on quite a rollercoaster with me. I've sold it, bought it back, put it up for sale only to keep it etc. but my rig needs a further injection of cash as does my Sei bass which needs new electronics so this is most certainly for sale.

For a bass which is 10+ years old, it's in very good condition. There are a few very minor marks on the body mainly on the main contact areas on the back and a slight depression over the neck pup where the previous owner rested his thumb. It plays flawlessly with very little fret wear and the set up is low; very low without any audible buzzes. Exactly what you'd expect from a Status. Electronics are all in working order too.

Comes with fresh Elixir Nanoweb strings and a Status padded gig bag.

Its an early nineties model with-

Walnut nody

Graphite neck

2x Status hyperactive J style pups.
More pics on request.

    Cheers guys,

    Jay
