1. If it were me, I'd consider a different approach. Like many others on this forum, I own a lot of gear and have experimented with a number of floor units etc with headphone outputs...

I really don't think anything comes close to the Line 6 UX-2 recording interface for sound quality, versatility and value for money. You'll obviously need some kind of computer or laptop to run it through, but for just over £100 (plus optional upgrades for additional modelling expansion packs), you get some fantastic software bundled with it, including 'POD Farm' which feautures emulations of pretty much every classic bass and guitar amp going, in a very user-friendly format (a very visual drag and drop affair that can be either as in depth or as simple as you could ever possibly need complete with a very cool KORG Rack-style tuner).

Being an audio interface, it's mainly aimed at the recording/studio market and whilst it excels in this department, I find myself using it 99percent of the time for the 'POD Farm' amp/effects software for practice using either headphones or pc/monitor speakers. You can even run an output in to a guitar anp or PA speakers if you wish.

Being a pedal junkie like myself, you'll especially appreciate the emulations of all the classic effects pedals included; I play guitar in a Police tribute band and own pretty much all the pedals Andy Summers ever used in the original band and yet often find myself getting sounds closer to the original tracks using the Line 6 POD Farm emulations than the real things :S

Finally, you may want to think about how good the headphones you currently use are - a good set of headphones (IMO) will be the difference between a decent headphone amp/floorboard/interface sounding good or not. Something like the Sennheiser HD280 Pro headphones may seem expensive at around £80 (if you shop around), but do your bass tone far more justice as well as hugely enhance your more recreational music listening experience...

    Hope that helps,

    James

I'm sure I've read some posts on either here or Talkbass where they were being highly recommended by Double Bassists. Their acoustic guitar amps are the holy grail of acoustic sound IMO and I heard some of their PA speakers and was equally impressed, although I didn't think they were much different to similar spec H.K. audio speakers that were considerably cheaper...

......Alas!...... "Too Old to rock and roll..... Too Myung to die!"...........Sorry!...I'll Get me Coat!....
You saw the opportunity for a pun and you just went for it!

The eBay auction was unsucessful; there were a couple of birders but it fell short of the £450 reserve. Some guy on there offered me £380 cash in hand and pick up today (£380 was also his highest bid), but to be honest I'd rather keep it and not play it than let it go for anywhere near that (plus I've turned down better offers).

I'll hang on to it for now, but if anyone is interested now or in the future, then feel free to message me here or call me on...

  4. Hi all,

Just to let you know that this eBay auction is now on it's last couple of hours (from the time of this post). If interested, check out the link at the top of this page...

P.S. Have given in to the GAS and and have just purchased a double bass, so am no longer considering a trade.

  5.
There are (me), they just cannot afford. :)
Maybe you could arrange sort kind of a time share with some other potential buyers - you could all pay about 15 percent each and all have a specific day of the week that you can play the instrument on. Or maybe not...

  6.
a canvas covered styrofoam case at 10kilos and £650.

Or buy a bass from Gear4music for £400 and get the styrofoam case for free.
I like the sound of the styrofoam casing... Do any of you use one of these cases and do they seem durable? Also, do the ones that come with the Gear4Music bass differ much in quality to a normal, more expensive styrofoam case? Given how much I believe the materials for Carbonfibre cases cost, they seem to have an inexcusably high mark-up... given that if people can afford to, they will happily stretch towards a lighter, more expensive hard case.

I've just spent £1,200 for the Stentor Arcadia and it's in amazing condition, comes with a stand, bow, Fishman pickup and Fishman preamp and a soft case (which wasn't originally advertised as part of the sale). It seems like a pretty good deal to me, although I don't have a frame of referance being new to the double bass.

I'll definately check out the brands mentioned already... thanks for the tips! Now, given that the soft case is likely to be in a van full of other equipment on the way to gigs, does anyone here any one here have a specific hardcase that they can recommend for under £1000.

  7.
I was going to express some interest in this meself, but not sure if I could do a six string justice!

A DT obsessed mate handed this over to a friend a few years back, was talking about this model last night as they've been using it to record. I'm suprised this hasn't gone yet as they had nothing but good things to say about it.
Tell me about it - I guess there aren't as many DT fans or people interested in six string basses as I thought there would be. If it doesn't sell then it's not a problem; I can just leave it in it's case for a bit longer to gain some more value.

  8. I'm about to purchase a Stentor Arcadia 3/4 double bass which comes with bow and Fishman pickup installed but no case. I will be using it for weekly gigs at various venues, so am going to need some fo of case to keep the instrument in one piece.

I've been reading a post in the Gear section of the for about recommended padded gig bags and flight cases, but there were no double bass cases mentioned. I've been browsing online and have found everything from cheap anorak looking cases to £3000+ fibre bomb-proof cases.

So I was wondering... What cases do you use or recommend and why? I'm looking for something under £400, but would love to know what makes the more expensive cases that much better.

  9.
why o why did i remember this site....i deleted it from my favorites to stop this wallet killing gass....
You remembered it because there's nothing more satisfying than aquiring a lovely new addition to the bass collection. In case any of you are interested, here's the link to the eBay auction. Alternatively, just PM me or leave a message and Ill get back to you...

Are you doing the vocals and bass simultaneously? Just learning Roxanne and it ain't easy!

Awesome - which Police tribute does he play for?

  12. That Shuker is a work of art; I've never seen anything quite like it :)

Following your advice, I've finally got round to taking some photos. Before viewing, just a forewarning that I'm a musician, not a photographer...

  13. Hi,

I currently have a Yamaha RBX JM2 for sale. It's two years old and has barely been used; I play a Fender Custom Jazz 24 as I prefer the thin neck and Jaco-esque tone to a rock tone (I am currently after a good double bass if anyone is selling one, so would consider a trade; preferably a 3/4 size Stentor).

This bass is no longer in production, so if you're after a good six string and/or are a Dream Theater/John Myung fan then this is the bass for you.

I am selling her for £450. If interested then send me a message with any questions or necessary contact information...

    Thanks,

    James
