1.
You've already answered one question - which was does the Shafty have a lacquered board! My current project doesn't - which is highly unusual for an otherwise accurate JapCrap Rick copy. I'm inclined to think it probably wasn't a Shafty. I'm thinking of replacing the tuners on mine, which are currently the same as yours - despite being a JapCrap addict/anorak I do think they look cheap & quite horrid, and I'm wondering if I can fit a set of these (in chrome or black) without too much modding: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gold-bass-guitar-tun...emZ140209467519 I like the pseudo Wavy Grover look, I think they'd go well on a Rick copy. Jon.
I like those tuners very much but there'd be holes to fill. I quite like these, either the the no. 15s (chrome) or 26s (black)... 2. Thanks for the opinions. I think you're all right, unless I can get one that matches perfectly I'll most likely go for a set of four. The current plan is to turn it into a fretless - the frets really are trashed and a pro refret is out of the question. I've done it before but never on a lacquered fretboard, so fun times ahead. As for picking my brains, go for it. If I can be any help I will.

 6. Hi one and all, I just picked up this here Shaftesbury copy after it disappeared from eBay... http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv295/F...Shaftesbury.jpg http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv295/F...k/Headstock.jpg http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv295/F...adstockback.jpg I probably paid over the odds but it's not too bad for its age. It's surprisingly heavy and well-made. There's a deep split (repairable) in the bottom 1/3 of the body, the bridge needs straightening, the nut & pickup selector need replacing, and it will need a refret (thinks...or a DEfret..) sooner rather than later, all of which will keep me busy pretty much until I die. At least I'll have fun. Anyway the immediate glaring need is for the 'A' string tuner, the enclosed sort. If it's not too cheeky for my first post, does anyone have one? I may have a part you want in exchange - I've got a few various bridges, tuners, nuts etc - or we could sort something out. Thanks in advance.
