1. Got the full range of these great basses in stock.
  2. Ashdown's customer service is undoubtedly the best in the industry.
  3. Roscoe basses are worth every penny. I looked at replacing a Tobias Classic 5. I did loads of research and bought a Roscoe SKB5. The workmanship is stunning. The low B (if you're buying a 5-string) is awesome. Compared to other hand-built basses they represent great value for money. Highly recommended.
  4.
I am a week out! I still may be able to come down Time just doesn't mean the same when you're not working
Be good to see you.
  5.
For sale is my Ampeg SVT-450H which is in very good condition, for those who do not know the amp is rated at 450watts @ 4ohm, and 250watts @ 8ohm. I have attached some photo's of the amp and for those who are interested in the technical stuff the PDF file from Ampeg with all the details. I want £430 for the amp and it would be collection only from Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire. Thanks for looking Cheers Alan
Looks good, Al.

    Nearly Dan

Nearly Dan play The Jazz Cafe in Camden on Sunday 14 August 2011. Come and have a beer at the Spread Eagle pub along the road beforehand.
  8.
I like the irony of merello posting a link to a Steely Dan tribute band and then Pete posting right after.
9.
Marcus Miller has played a jazz bass as his main bass for years...reason to suspect he doesn't have the highest standards of tone...confirmed when you listen to him! Victor Wooten on the other hand, with his brace of Fodera basses has always sounded amazing. Mind you, Marcus has played enough boutique basses over the years to know what he likes and what he doesn't like. That said, it doesn't take much effort to get a better tone than he has so I suppose it's a case of horses for courses.
Not sure what you mean about his tone, mate. I would say it's the most sought-after and recognisable slap sound in the history of bass.
  10. There are way too many instruments made nowadays, so the likelihood of getting an investment is surely far less than a few decades ago. Limited editions are probably the way to go.
  11. It's all in the fingers for these guys.
  12. I fully understand this. But it wouldn't harm if the buyers and sellers contributed something. It seems that the regular posters keep the forum alive.
  13. I'm sick of posting to keep the forum going, only to see these people using it as a means of buying and selling their gear on a regular basis. For f***'s sake. at least contribute something.
  14. I know this has been brought up before, but could some of those sellers perhaps contribute to the forum instead of just using it as a marketplace? It seems like the same members keep it going.
  15.
Hey it's great to see Pete on here! I havn't watched Nearly Dan for a long time, (at a theater in Arnold Nottingham if I remember correctly), if anyone here like Steely Dan, it does not get any better. Last time I watched you Pete i'm sure you were using a Tobias? do you still have it? I love Rob's guitar playing incidentally. I must get to see you guys again. Good luck with the gig!
Thanks for the compliments. I sold the Tobias about 3 years ago, after gigging it for about 15 years solid. Bought a new Roscoe SKB 5.
  16. Thanks for posting, Andy...loved it.
  17.
Is my pal Annie Tinsley going to be on sax for that gig?
Mmmm...not sure.

    Nearly Dan

Nearly Dan play The Lift Off Festival, Anderton Boat Lift, Lift Lane, Northwich, Cheshire on Saturday August 6. Outdoor event. Starts around 7.30pm.
  19. That example is someone that proves slap can be tasteful, musical, and very funky.
  20. Look at him on drums. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfGIyNyT23o...feature=related Talented bastard.
  21.
Isn't this a case of "monkey see, monkey do"? After all, what do the folks who work in the music shop do as soon as they take down a bass? (apologies in advance to Pete Academy, I doubt that this applies to you).
I only play if they want me to demo it, and then I might slap a bit to show what the bass or amp is capable of. Generally, I explain the controls and leave them in peace. Showing off to a customer is a no-no.
  22.
Another one for Paul Simonon.
He seems to be extremely popular.
  23.
Now that is a cool bass player.
Absolutely unmusical but very cool.
  24.
If we are just talking cool, then my mate Dave March in the band 'The Shuffle' is pretty cool I've known him for years and he also plays drums, guitar and keys! (You didn't say they had to be famous!)
Not famous, just cool.
  25. His slap solos are just so rhythmic and musical, without resorting to showing off his technical ability. He also looks so cool when performing.
