1.
Pre-booking needed? Not usually so at Roscoe. Any idea of cost?
It's usually well attended, so, pre-book might be advisable. About a tenner I think...absolute bargain! :)

  2. Unfortunately, slap bass takes a lot of practice to get right, especially in achieving a clean note with the thumb. I would just keep at it...you should get there eventually.

There's another really good DVD out there, called The Slap Bass Program by Alex somebody. He goes into an amazing amount of detail. Most of the first part is spent just on the thumbing hand, so I reckon it will help a great deal.

  3.
+1 ...not just because he's one of my top inspirations for bass but he has to be defended on the bass changing comment. I've seen him play live a few times but watch a Bonnie Raitt video if you don't believe me. He goes from a Modulus to a Washburn electro-acoustic to a fretless or whatever because he's responding to the song and its needs for a different texture. The result is noticeable and complimentary.
I agree, the different basses will be noticeable on video, especially when it's been mixed properly. But in a live gig situation, that isn't always the case.

  4. Actually Jacko, I never criticised his playing. In my opinion the bass changeovers took a little too long and made neglible difference to my ears. I would be the first to put him up there with the bass greats. I've nothing against people taking loads of basses to gigs. Personally I'm happy with the one bass I use.

    So there.

  5. I saw hi playing with Bonnie Raitt many years ago. He was great, but had a load of basses, and insisted on using a different one for every other song. To be honest, they all sounded the same and he took ages to change over.

  6. I can't believe the thread about Victor Wooten. He has no soul?! Have you seen the Bass Day 98 DVD? Have you listened to all of his albums? Or have you just watched the Youtube clips where he's 'shredding'? This kind of narrow-minded opinion seems typical of some of the members of this forum. This is a guy who was in a band supporting the likes of Curtis Mayfield when he was 6 years old. What were you doing at that age? Playing with toys, I imagine. He has the most awesome slap technique on the planet, so why not show it off once in a while? What do you want him to do at a trade show or clinic...play some rock and roll basslines?

  7. There's no set rule for how much power you need, but I personally wouldn't go below 100w, and definitely at least a 15" speaker, as most 12" don't create enough bottom end unless you buy something really expensive. Sounds like you are playing rock or similar, so it's also determined by how loud your drummer is. If you have a decent enough PA system, you could use the backline amp as a monitor and let the PA do some of the work.

You could go into a music shop and try a 50w 1x12" combo and it would sound pretty loud on it's own. Trust me, it will get lost in a band situation.

In a nutshell, get the most power you can afford, as it'll give you more headroom and a cleaner sound.

  8. I have a 1983 Steinberger L2 bass, purchased in that year. Serial number 610. It has the push-in knee rest. The logo is a sticker and not the one stamped into the body.

I replaced the single tone pot with an EMG dual concentric bass/treble active one many years ago. Unfortunately, I don't have the original pot and knob.

The battery plate is split but still intact. I also have a Steinberger gig bag, but it has worn at the top and the bass pokes through.

For anyone that has Tony Bacon's Ultimate Guitar Book, this is the actual bass pictured in the book.

    I am open to offers.

ment=23158:P3310114.JPG]hi i have a 5 string fender jazz bass 97, in metalic green there are some marks to body, but
for age is in good condition, it plays well, but i am sticking to 4 strings so it has been sat around not being used.
im selling for offers around £500 or looking for swop/px for good 4 string.
What 4 string are you looking for?

  10.
Thanks for that, Pete. Looking at the serial, it's not late 80's. More like late 90's to early noughties. If it has the 3-band preamp (the three small controls under the larger volume and panpot) it's definitely much newer :)

Is it a headed or headless one?

    Rich.
It's headless. Small 3-band active control knobs. The wood is mostly quilt maple with birds-eye parts...quite unusual.

  11.
It's a Status, it's got 5 strings and it's mint

... there will be a hoard of BC'ers dribbling onto their keyboards in anticipation

And Rich, you can bugger orf... you can't have all of em for gods sake :)

Forgive my ignorance, mate, but I'm not an expert on Status basses. The selling enquiry is on behalf of someone else. Save the sarcasm for someone else.
12.
Pete, can you tell us what the serial number is (on the top of the brass string retainer at the top of the neck) please?

    Rich.
Hi Rich, there doesn't seem to be a number on the string retainer. All the hardware is black. There is a number directly under the tuners at the bridge - 10032957. Hope this helps.

  13.
No price and no pix.

We're not really taking this seriously are we!
Sorry, just seeing if anyone's interested first. haven't had chance to take pics. But as I mentioned, it's identical to the one on Status's website, and is absolute mint. As far as price, I'm open to offers.

  14. SOLD Status S2 Classic 5 string. late 80s. If you go to the Status website, this bass is virtually identical to the one shown when you click 'S2 Classic'. Original case. This bass is in MINT condition. Serious offers. SOLD

  15.
Anyone heard the new/ish album 'Morph The Cat'... i have always loved this guy..his voice is not what i love in a voice but i love it all the same, i would recognise his voice anywhere..for me his attention to detail is sublime. he is a true master of his craft!! the way he plays that fender organ is so cool.

Kamakiriad and Night Fly are superb, and this album is not far off..my favorites being 'Security Joan', 'Morph the Cat', The amazing 'H Gang'. and my favorite Brite Nitegown..this is amazing stuff IMHO..

Everything about this album, as usual, has Fagans trademark master arranging qualities..

Freddie Jackson on bass, is supremely laid back. i would like to see Pino all over this..Awesome guitar work too..

If you like Fagan, buy this. I would kill to play on this stuff!!!
I play in a UK Steely Dan tribute called Nearly Dan. We covered the title track for a while. Great tune to play. We've covered lots of tracks from the Nightfly over the years.
