ive been looking for a cheapie p bass copy as a backup or kind of chuck in the car last moment before heading off to a jam
JD/SX seem to get good reviews citing them as better than what you pay for and a good backup/workhorse
i wondered if anyone had any experience of them? -
in answer to your questions
no i wont be playing with the rest of the band
no i cant get hold of the last bass player
no i wont be needing to sight read

i dont mean to play anything by hamm but that was an example of the complexity of the solo i was looking at -
is it important for the ramp to be the same radius as the fingerboard (as on the gary willis basses) or can it just be a block of wood?

this coming tuesday i am auditioning for a place as the bassist for our school jazz band
i have to pick a piece to play and i wondered what would be a good choice.
do i play a simple bassline that shows my timing but sounds dull on its own
or
do i play an interesting complex bass solo e.g. Stu Hamm's bass solo from san fransisco with steve vai?
Options and opinions please -
2 one to play and one as a project/tester for new gear

that would be sweet
were it that i had humbuckers -
its got the stock wilkinson P-J pickups found in vintage basses (vintage the company)
it has passive controls like in a p bass with a switch to switch between the pups
but a spare switch -
on my bass i currently have a DPST switch which inside is connected to nothing.
does anyone have any ideas of anything i could connect it to?
i was thinking something along the lines of a simple distortion or tone boosting circuit.
any ideas would be good to hear
