I don't know your amp, or how brave you are ....

The sort of problem you describe is very often heat related. A less than secure connection heats up and suddenly contact is lost.

A lot of electrical gear these days is hooked up with ribbon connectors, these have a great history of working loose. Personally. I'd pop the lid and push on all the connectors and make sure everything is seated properly. Obviously, taking precautions not to connect yourself directly to the mains. Check for loose screws, sometimes power modules can be bolted to the case as an additional heat sink.

Never heard of the 4x2 test, but the drop test was a very common way to 'repair' electrical products and possibly still is.

I dropped my MB head, after which it would occasionally have a fizzing fit. I suspected unseated componentry. A bloke in Norwich was recommended. He examined the head thoughfully from all angles, waggled the knobs and went out of the room, returning with a length of 2x4. There followed what cricketists like top call the sound of leather on willow, or in this case wood on Marbass's finest casing material. He handed the head back to me, charged me £30 and it worked fine. NFN.

dont have a piece of 4x2 but ill try my shot gun thats probably the best thing for the MB

Can anyone in the UK recommend a company that could possibly repair my MarBass head

the amp stays on for about 30mins then shuts down, then after a few minutes i turn it on and it does the same again

My Tech, in Stevenage, will make reasonable charges but getting parts for Markbass gear is a nightmare.

As @Bigwan says, it would be helpful to know what's wrong with it.

The little Micromark 801 used to be available with a seperate tweeter box, I bought one but even at at 60 watts in total there was little discernable difference so sent it back. Not sure which MB combo you refer to but all the bigger ones have tweeters/horns anyway.  The bigger and smaller ones both run at 8 ohms but when an additional speaker is added will run happily at 4 ohms. Don't think MB even sell a seperate tweeter  box anyway now? An additional speaker ( not tweeter) added to a CMD121  for example means it will run at full 500 watts rather than 300 watts, if on its own.

    many thanks

Useful ... I've been having trouble with the piezo tweeter in my CMD121P, and I think it just died.
Although its not as nice sounding as the horn tweeter in the 121H cab, it really does add a clarity and crisp top end that I've got used to having now (for a long while I ran it with the piezo disconnected).
I don't miss it so much when I'm using the extension cab, but when I use the combo on its own I do.

So, time to found out how deep my pockets need to be for a Markbass repair...

    Hi Paul

What replacement Tweeter did you use on you CMD121P in the end

    cheers

Most modern amps have some kind of protection circuit and will cutout if over temperature or an over current is detected.  It is perhaps a sign that the amp or cab has a problem. The other option is that you need a higher output amplifier.

Mine just stays on for 30 seconds then shuts down again. and continues to do that

its fine if you wanna sound like less dawson on a double bass!!!

  9. turn my Markbass on and it turns itself of after 30 seconds or so wait a while turn it on and same again, have bought another head (from a member of this site) but would be nice to see if other one could be fixed?

    ps

    fans works

    speakers fine

    all cables fine
