  1. ooh it’s sounding promising, might have to source a new neck…

I've swapped hundred of Fender, Allparts, Squier, Warmoth, Mighty Mite, Musikraft and similar necks over the years and have not once had to use sandpaper. All the brands fit each others necks/bodies within tolerable tolerances. There will be some exceptions and some imperfections, but they are few and far between and rarely affect either tone or mechanics

I know who to message if I mess it up then!

  2. sounds good, I assumed it’s not gonna be a perfect fit and something would need to be sanded. I reckon I could have a go and take it to a pro if/ when I mess it up. Just thinking neck angle, am I looking for flat 180 or do I need a bit of a slant

  3. Hi, so I’m worse than useless when it comes to anything to do with making or creating things but I’ve always loved my jazz bass neck but I’m a big fan of the precision body. I’ve got a squier p bass which I like but don’t get along with the neck, so the question is would it be possibly to just bolt a new fender jazz neck to it? I’m not sure if I’d need a shim or anything and I don’t particularly wanna buy a new neck for nothing. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers

Brand new speakers are sometimes duff. If it's not that and it's not the tube then you're going to need a tech to sort it out.

Looking at your knob settings you could possibly have blown the new speaker. 4 on the output is all she's got when the green light is constant on the input side. There's a lot of low bass on the EQ.

thanks man, yeah I was experimenting with the EQ that’s not how I gigged it lol. When I say brand new speaker the guy I bought it from told me it was brand new which may have been bs of course. Might be a job for a tech I think

  5. hi, so my ‘trusty’ trace Elliot AH350 head and 115 cab is pretty much my dream rig (except maybe getting an SVT/ barefaced combo) and I thought I’d take it out for it’s first gig a few weeks ago and it sounded very very quiet, even the guitarist was telling me to turn up! The soundguy kept turning me up during soundcheck because apparently I was getting quieter and quieter throughout. It’s a hybrid solid state- valve head (I think?) so my first thought is the valve is dying and needs replacing. Second thought is my cab speaker is going but it’s a brand new celestion 400w so shouldn’t be. Any advice or tips on what to look for? Cheers

  6. so I’ve heard good things about laney guitar amps but I can’t really find anything on their bass amps. I’ve seen a few really nice looking laney bass amps (heads mostly) for good prices, I was particularly interested in a laney linebacker 100 bass head but I’ve never played through one or even seen one! Anyone point me in the way of any demos or know anything with a similar sound? Thanks

  7. so I’ve been playing my fender jazz MIM for about 2 years now and it’s always made a strange sort of ‘knocking’ sound when I play, it’s even worse when I have distortion on. I’ve tried lowering the pickups as I thought that was the problem but it hasn’t helped. I’m fairly sure they’re stock pickups but the bass is a bit road worn so I’m not overly sure. I play fingerstyle and the knocking is much less noticeable when I play with a pick which makes me think it’s something to do with my technique maybe? I’m guessing I just need new pickups but I’m not sure, any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

  8. Hi, I’m absolutely buzzing to share my bands first single with you lot, it’s the first song we wrote and I’d really appreciate it you gave it a listen. Sorry if I’m breaking any rules, but here’s the Spotify link (also on Apple Music). Please enjoy!

    thanks so much

  9. I’m lucky enough to have several gigs coming up, unfortunately I had one cancelled but these two should be promising! My first gig is at the west street live in Sheffield on July 13th, first time playing there so I hope it’s good. Day after on the 14th of July my band have got a headliner gig at a York venue, which I’m absolutely buzzing for, got a poster and everything lol

What exactly do you want to do?

Use the external cab instead of the built-in speaker? If so why?

Use the combo with an additional cab? In which case you need a cab with the same size and number (and ideally type) of speakers as in the combo for the best results.

However, you'll need to look on the back of your actual amp as there are several different versions of the GP7 combo and by looking at photos available not all of them have additional speaker outputs. If they do the impedance information for the extension cab should be marked next to the socket.

yes sorry I should’ve made it more clear, I want to run my combo through an additional cab, I’ll have a look on the back

    thanks

  11. hi, I’ve always wanted to play my lovely trace Elliot gp7 300W combo through a cab as I’m pretty sure it’s got a speaker output jack (please tell me if I’m wrong), but as I’m a bit of a novice I’m not sure what cab I should be using. A trace Elliot cab is the obvious choice but it’s quite difficult to find information about them and eBay listings are vague at best. Any advice on what cab I should look for?

    cheers

  12. so in my short time playing bass I’ve only ever used combos, I started with a small vox 15w practice amp which got me through my first gig, then I had an ashdown 50w combo which was alright but I wasn’t really digging the sound (I use a fender jazz bass mostly), but that made a horrific siren like noise when I used it so I traded it in for an ampeg rocket 50w, which I still have but hardly ever use as I was offered a trace Elliot gp7 300w combo by my drummers neighbour, which I absolutely adore and am a huge fan of, it’s my absolute favourite. Question is, am I better off with my current combo amp it would a head and cab maybe get me a better sound? Trace elliots are my favourite and I’m sure that other TE users will agree, so I’d maybe like a trace stack, but if anyone had any advice on what I should get please let me know!

here’s my current amp, apologies for the rubbish photo
