Surely lockdown doesn't have to end for anyone to splash some cash on some new gear.

Unfortunately, it does mean you can't visit a physical shop until it does end.

Oh, I've spent cash during lockdown. 😂

But when it comes to a new bass....i want hands on. Bought an expensive bass online. When I got it I hated it. Won't make that goof again.

My list unfortunately will soon be one made up of stuff I’ll need to sell rather than acquire. Hoping it doesn’t come to that but must admit I’ve been looking in my music room mentally noting what would be first to go if the gig situation doesn’t turn around soon. Fingers crossed.

That sucks bud! I hope it doesn't come down to that.

Well whilst I can order one online I’d really like to just be able to go to a music shop and tryout/buy a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Jazz Bass, so I might well show some restraint and do exactly that as my end of lockdown treat. Would just be nice to spend an hour or so in PMT Northampton whiling away the time looking at instruments & amps and trying a few out - though I’m pretty set on the CV60s.

The smell of brand new basses and guitars. It was helps make you smile and open up your wallet 😂

  4. The most important question of the moment.

What's on your shopping list for when lockdown ends? Optional question, can your bank account hack it?

Been eyeing up either a Dingwall Super PJ or a Spector Dimensions.

Also thinking of maybe shifting my GK Stack for a Darkglass.

As soon as I can go into Bass Direct I'm going! 😂

Can imy bank account hack it? No. No it can't. But I'm not overly attached to my left kidney.

  5. Hey all!

I've been tonking away at the lessons and got to a point where I'm playing the bass line from Billie Jean. I happened to record myself playing it and on play back noticed that when I'm moving between strings I'm almost getting a hammer on and pull off sound whilst moving. Once heard, never unheard. It is doing my head in.

Is this down to Technique, Set Up, both or have I not sacrificed enough skin to the Bass Gods?

Help Me Bass Kenobis. You're my only hope.

It is a condition common among members of the forum.  You are in excellent company.

    • G - Gear
    • A - Acquisition
    • S - Syndrome

If you can't keep a check on it you'd best avoid the temptation of the Basschat marketplace.

PS:  We're all for fart gags here.  It's all about the bottom end innit.

Yeah. In that case I'm done for! 😂.

    I don't do cheap hobbies.

    Welcome K.

The GAS is strong with this one.

@SpondonBassedSpent all of yesterday trying to work this out.

Either you've been talking to my wife and are aware of my ability to "let rip" or I have no idea what GAS stands for 😂.

    Please educate me. 😊

  9. Hi!

I'm K, pleased to be hear.

Technically I've been "playing" for 16 years, but if I'm 100% honest I'd say I've only started properly in the last month or so. This makes me very much an "all the gear, no idea person."

Currently own two Sandbergs and three GK amps. (Note that one Sandberg and one of the GK amps is probably going to pop up on the for sale areas very soon!)

I originally picked up the bass because bands near me needed bassists more than they needed backing guitarists. Traded in an ESP LTD guitar for an Epiphone Thunderbird and instantly fell in love with the notion of being a bassist. Then I spent years being "that guy" who muddled their way through things because theory was not a thing, nor was practicing.

Between friends who are all great guitarists and a father in law that spends a lot of time in recording studios I decided this year that it would actually be nice to have a jam with them and not crap my pants about not knowing anything about the instrument or the notes I can and can't play. So I've started playing every day for at least 30 minutes and taken up a few online courses to get technique and theory under my belt.

The goal is to one day decide I'm good enough to justify buying a Dingwall Super P 😅. What better way to motivate yourself than a £4000 gift at the end of it all.
