  1. With several people mentioning trip hazards I want to highlight this as I took a tumble this morning answering the door in haste.

Bass was pulled off stand and very luckily fell onto soft chair edge and my Ashdown Mibass amp crashed on floor.

Gear ok and just a sore wrist for me luckily, us old fossils don't bounce as well as we used to. :(

    Do take care everyone.

  2. Peavey Bass just arrived in exactly as described condition. Thank goodness it was very well packed as it had been well beaten up by Parcel force, bloody couriers are getting worse by the week it seems.

Deal with confidence and very smooth transaction.

Thank you Matt very nice bass

  3. Just a quick bit of feedback for MattW.

Item at a fair price, promptly shipped, goods exactly as described and well packed.

Pleasure doing business with you Matt and thank you.

Martin Turner formed Wishbone Ash. Powell and Ted Turner were in the original lineup with Steve Upton.

I thought Martins brother was the original guitarist, he's name eludes me. They advertised for a guitarist in melody maker and couldn't choose between Ted and Andy so both joined. That is the story as far as I am aware. But please correct if i am way off the mark.

Michael Wedgwood - bass player #3 - who formed Curved Air #2 with Sonja Kristina - played on their dates in Japan last year. He lives in Denmark.

Oh good, I chatted with Sonja a few years back and she said Mike might be playing again.

How about Wishbone Ash?  I think Martin Turners Wishbone Ash has the only original remaining member. Guitarists Andy Powell and Ted Turner (no relation) joined later.

The harmonic will always be exact, whatever the intonation, and, in fact, helps check the intonation..! The fretted 12th fret should be the same note as the harmonic. B|

Now that I did not know. Must check to see it with own eyes as I always believed otherwise.

Ty Dad3353 given me another tangent to explore.

Well I never, all the years thinking that intonation was needed before a harmomic check. thank you for enlightening an old fool ;)

    ** update **

As a fan of the floor/pedal tuners which I seem to recall it is based on and specifically naming 4 and 5 string bass it might be worth a punt?

  7. @kwmlondon A real credit to Basschat, fantastic deal on GK cab and amazing condition. Brilliant packaging and couriered very quickly.

Thank you, it has really fired me up with playing Bass again.

    It sounds amazing, love it!

  8. Not sure if I actually love it or hate it....... can't afford it for sure though!

Now if that toiletseat pickguard turned into a space hopper shape utilising the eyes at the 24th fret, two horns and teeth between the pickups that sure would make me smile.

Not heard of that one before, but there's ways around that sort thing; the old cocktail stick and glue trick for straplocks, maybe swap out steel fixings for brass or stainless alternatives.

You'd like to think that manufacturers would have done their homework on an issue of this nature.

Couldn't find the reference I see about corrosion. With the comment about incorrect drying from Dad3353 it would make sense for acids in sappy wood to corrode.

I stand by my experience on Basswood being powdery on 2 of my guitars (6 strings) and try to avoid doweling/plugging oversize holes.

https://cdn.intechopen.com/pdfs/46241.pdf is an interesting read regarding corrosion on mostly treated timbers. Possibly applicable to under seasoned wood in guitars also. I wonder if the fixing corrosion issue I see posted were galvanised (zinc plated) fastners?

Sorry OP for going off topic and surprised how heavy it is with a Basswood body as my 6 string Basswoods are so much lighter than anything else I own and seems to be a glorified Balsa wood ( a bit extreme but I hope you know what I mean).

    Basswood is fine. However, it has three significant issues;

Appearance- like Poplar and Alder, it lacks much obvious grain or figuring and isn't a particularly attractive colour. This explains why it's usually only available in solid finishes.

Name- If it were called Tilia bassguitaris superioris, I'm sure people would love it. Being saddled with a plain old name like Basswood just evokes responses like "Yeah, right."

Reputation- because of the two above, at best it gets ignored,  at worst branded as a cheap substitute. I've played Bongos and liked them without knowing or particularly caring what they were fashioned from. Conversely, lovers of natural finishes and multi-laminate through- necks might be suspicious of what's lurking under that solid finish; what are they trying to hide?

I think the Bongo's price reflects the amount of machining required to get the shape,  the cost of the pickups and the (presumably expensive) 4 band EQ, plus a little bit for it being a Musicman..

Basswood always seemed very soft (dents) and I ended up using drywall screws as much better grip than standard woodwork screws that seem to turn the wood to Dust with poor grip.

I might be way off here, thought I read that Basswood is corrosive to steel fixings? just thinking about long term viability?
