Is this what's going to happen to me? Buy a lightweight bass and receive one that isn't? Who knows 🤷
But the part-exchange experience really was very pleasant. Very fair, and no messing.
As it happened, there were things about the bass that I didn't like, so that I didn't even get round to thinking about the weight before returning it to them.
As with the part-exchange discussion, returning the bass and having the reversed transaction was smooth and 100% bs-free.

The BB1024X has been replaced by a coffee burst BB734a
For you, what has been the net gain of this swap?

Saw the title, came to say, Stuart Morrow, ah yes there he is in the OP.
Er, how about Craig Logan? Just the one album 😬

No pressing need to watch the other 10 minutes, but the 15 seconds from 2'45" to 3'00" is lovely

How very Spinal Tap
At one point The Ramones were the inverse of Spinal Tap — the singer, guitarist and bassist all gone, but all the drummers still alive.

Do you know what? I'm not even sure which band it was.
Didn't see this post coming!

I've had two Yamaha basses recently. Both beautifully made. One was boring to play and very comfortable, one was exciting to play and very uncomfortable. Both are gone.
I recently tried a budget Yamaha and was quite surprised by the iffy quality, until I realised it hadn't come from their Indonesian factory.

empress.
Is it a custom order only thing
Yes, it's only available for Build To Order basses (currently way over 6 months waiting) and it's not even on the official list of options (G&L are quite an odd company)
Since I ordered the second one there's been a price rise and the pound has gone ⤵️ 🚽 so I'm not sure if most people would think they're really worth it now.
My knackered shoulder thinks a 7.2 lb P bass is worth any amount of money, so 🤷 😁
Anyway [/TANGENT]
Back to the AVII 1960 P - Peach have several in stock, but haven't weighed them yet

Is there any other option?
Daddario Chromes are available in 50-105 set. I have tried both them (in a 45-60-80-105 set) and La Bellas (in a 49-109 set) and found that the Chromes had much more consistency of character from string to string.
Here's a demo comparing the 52-110 DTF with the 50-105 Chromes. The bass is an SB-2, not the most obvious choice for demoing flats, but you can hear the differences nonetheless (start at 2'18")
(Shame he doesn't use the G string, though!)

I like the shade of blue of the guitarist's Strat

I think if I was looking for a P, wanting it to be at the rock end of its bijou spectrum, and wasn't needing to fret about dimensions, I would get a Roger Waters, a nicely out of fashion lump of wood going for OK prices and having a good reputation for quality. And then add a Dimarzio Model P and some heavyish steel strings.
As someone with both a P and an SB-1, I would not recommend the latter to someone looking for a P - the slight differences are enough to take it away from the P's classic character (which is why I wanted one)

He's got some. Now he's staring at the pack looking a bit confused and complaining that they sound too bright 🤣
Pass him some KFC while he's practising

If I came into a lump of money, can absolutely see myself ordering one of the AVII 60 Precisions but you'd have to be mad to do so without knowing the weight imo
I've ordered a couple of basses from G&L, and both times paid extra for an empress body, just so that the this whole question goes away: no matter what, its going to be very light. I would have happily paid the same amount just to get an alder body from the light end of its natural spectrum.

They've taken over from the now discontinued American Original.
Back to vintage radius fretboard.

Angry Dave's mis-hearing of "another council tenancy" always makes me smile. And I do appreciate an album having one track I don't mind being drowned out by the kettle boiling. Mr Rotten was quite rude about that version, but either time or royalty cheques seemed to soften his thoughts. Also, No Anarchy In The UK cover, no Holy Wars, I guess, so.

BB234s and BB434s. Just asking for a friend..😉
Yes, these current models have standard size P + J pickups.
The 424 which the OP has doesn't.

Yeah. Met him briefly.
he’s so small and so aloof, I though he was a disgruntled 19 year old bloodhound
Whilst googling the important issue of how tall Noel Gallagher isn't* I discovered that Lennon Gallagher looks like a cross between Liam Gallagher and Patsy Kensit. I know that's not unreasonable in the circumstances, but still.
*answer: it depends on the year, apparently, he went through a tall phase

So standard sized P and J bass pickups wouldn't fit into BB basses as direct replacements??
Which BBs?

Change the pickups on the Yamaha bass perhaps? DiMarzio do a nice PJ set that are great for the money.
Non standard pickups. And getting rid of the 424's bridge pickup would definitely be a case of throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
One solution would be upgrading the 424 neck pickup to a 1024, but given how expensive they are, it would be more sensible just to get Squier P.
I felt that my 424 was great at being a BB and not much cop at being a P. I notice that the opposite is true of my P.

I wouldn't trust Hermes with pre-loved loo roll, and don't really understand why they're used by anyone to send anything.

Not that you deserve a civil answer, but for the benefit of the rest of the thread's readership:
I've a P that I like very much. It weighs 9.15 lbs. My damaged left shoulder has informed me that 2022 is my final year with it. I know for a fact that my shoulder would be happy with an 8.0 lb P bass, so, wanting something to string with flats, I've been looking for one around that weight. If I can't find one, I could order another empress-bodied LB-100, which would be below 7.5 lbs, but would also be well over 6 months wait and £££££. The lower the weight, the more of a long term solution it is, the wiser I'll have spent my money.
