Prob the most important thing when installing a new bridge is to make sure it's set correctly for the scale length of the bass with enough room for +/- saddle adjustment. It might be an idea to mark a line 34" from the front edge of the nut (or whatever the scale length is) and use that as a guide. Position the bridge where you think it needs to be for the ferrules, then place the G and E saddles on the plate with the break point on the scale length line. The G will need some room for forward and back adjustment. The E will need more room to adjust back (towards the tail end). Do you have a pic of the bass wearing the original bridge? That would also be a useful point of reference.

This is exactly like my bass.

This is my bridge, string spacing is correct.

  2. Did a few google searches and think I'm doing it right but I've never done this before and I'm nervous, I only get one shot and need to hit the bullseye. On this image I placed red X's on the holes I've not drilled yet. Just want reassurance that alignment is correct before I drill the holes in question and screw the bridge down to the guitar. Thanks in advance!

  3. I'm upgrading my bridge. I used some long Machine Screws, inserted through the Ferrules and placed the bridge inserting the screws into the bridge string holes. Alignment is so tight I'll have to back the screws back out to remove them. So warning, dumb question coming - Before I drill the holes in the wood to secure the bridge to the guitar, this is correctly aligned right? Straight through, no offset?

Thanks for all the suggestions, after some digging around the site I think I have a plan. A Hotone nano amp, apparently they sound like a mini SVT, not a bad thing. And. They have an aux in and headphone jack so I can take it with me to hotels when I’m working away. To partner it I’m going to build a ‘House Jam Micro Cab’ to Phil starr's design. It sounds like just the ticket for late night noodling, I’ve ordered some suitably retro vinyl and speaker grill to make it look inoffensive as well.

I've been thinking about getting one of those. Consider an ampeg svt replacement speaker to complete it. Keep us posted what you do.

  5. I just got the deluxe big muff today, I like it better than my joyo octive fuzz, I'm getting rid of the joyo now.

Been having a blast for the last few hours. Trying to figure out a good pedal chain order? Suggestions welcomed. I got a demonfx horizon overdrive and a providence bass boot compressor, been switching the 3 pedals around and spinning the knobs.

It's all good whatever works for you, but I generally like to have eq controls on the bass guitar in middle positions - then I'm able to do things like boost the bass for just one part then bring it back down (without adjusting settings on the amp head which is set up for the overall sound), if everything is on full then can only cut things.

    🤔

There's a notch in the middle of the tone knobs that sort of holds the knob from slipping and finds exact center. I assumed that was zero and up and down was positive negative.

That's interesting. I wonder what the £30 amp is. Maybe it's something like an Orange micro terror.

    I'm using a valeton tar 20 B.

Mine was 75 American dollars new. I do also have the joyo voodoo, Google search for the joyo voodoo on bass guitar and watch a few videos.

I did wonder if that might be a better option. Seems to make more sense than filling down the bridge.

    Lol, what was I thinking.

I won't disassemble, paint and resemble the Traben until I have a new pickup and extras. I've chosen,

    EMG mmcs

    EMG bqs control

    EMG tko kill switch

I will disable the neck pickup.

Just need to save up some money, hopefully this time next month.

As I suspected. It will take a fair bit of modification to get the hipshot to fit.  An interesting project though. Please post pictures of your progress. Good luck.

    I took a shortcut.
