I have a Ampeg BA110 that is pretty good. Actually used one at a very small mainly acoustic gig. No drummer.

In July our joint was reopened. Got a couple of good gigs in then hurricane sally came by and damaged the place. No gigs since....

Dont teach him too well, or he will eventually be better than you !

I’m guessing you did something really shockingly bad....like trying to discuss a bass amp? Worse??
There is one particular brand of bass I think it is ugly. Someone asked what we dont like about xxxxxxx. I said "it's just plain ugly" the moderator must play that brand!! So, I am banned!!

Welcome from Jersey! (the State, not the Isle). Much better lads than TalkBass, in my opinion. Just get used to the word "whilst".
Same here about talkbass. Finally got banned. Basschat is much better, laid back guys, not snobbed to death. But my British brothers dont quite get Alabama football !!

Talkbass ... Talkbass ... oh yes, I remember them. Long time since I bothered to log in though. Most over-policed Forum I ever did encounter.
Haaa!!! I just got banned from talkbass!! Been in talkbass jail 2 or 3 times, this last time I was banned !!

I'm sure if you really wanted the stingray sound you could just use an EQ pedal or install an onboard preamp.

Practice only amp? I have a Ampeg BA110 latest version. Works great for practice. I even played it at a very small acoustic gig. Not to great for my 5 string

I love inexpensive basses too. Manufacturing is at such a high level these days that you can get a really good quality instrument for under £200.
I have always said there is not much difference between a $300 bass and a $1000 bass other than the finish

I hate to ask this, how much is £300 in USA $ ?

Yeah,, looking at a Yamaha BB734. My 60th b-day is in 2021. Sounds like a good present. I thought about a real musicman, I have a Sterling stingray, not 100% sold on the sound. May trade in my Fender p and maybe the stingray toward the 734. (Yeah, trade in the fender. )

We had just started back at our once or twice a month standing gig. Then hurricane Sally damaged our gig joint. So it will be closed for a while. We are looking for another

I have always wondered if the same exact Indonesian made bass was made in the USA, same materials, equipment used, same finish, same amount of hands-on labor, how much would it cost?

It's getting ridiculous how much extra money we pay for Big Brand logos on instruments that are only marginally better than the cheapest in-house brands.
Dude, you will get kicked off basschat saying that ! I worked at a mattress manufacturer, they made all brands, cheap, expensive, same tools, same people, some of the same parts. Last guy ironed on the name of the mattress. Like guitars, your $200 (us) bass may have $2000 (us) bass electronics

There’s musicians in our church who have been playing for years & only know the basics because they only listen to CCW. Had CCW taken some pointers from gospel, then they’d likely know a good deal more.
Yes on this. I was guilty of this. We had to down-play some of our songs because of inexperienced guitar player. I no longer play in church. I play in a small dive along with a acoustic guitar player/singer, playing a mix of oldies. I can say I am better now than when I played in church. I do miss the worship experiences, but dont miss church drama and politics

I've owned many high end basses but was always too precious with them.
Inexpensive basses mean that you don't have to worry about losing £200 off the price when it inevitably gets a knock.
Yes, I get beat down for saying this. But there is not a lot of difference between a $300 (us) and a $1000(us) basses other than the finish.

I bought the latest Sterling Stingray4 as a beater, after a few adjustments, restringing, it is my main-player! Played it at every gig for over a year! How about you guys?

We had started back our gig, but Hurricane Sally (south Alabama) damaged our gig joint a few weeks ago. So no gigs until further notice. Looking for another joint or another group to play with. The guy who I play for is more of a 1 man show. So, small stuff he does alone.

Thanks for all the good words! Looking forward to chatting with all my low down friends!

Keyboard player can be your friend or enemy. I played keys at a church for 5 years. 1/4 of the time without a bass player. When we had a bass, I was very easy on my left hand. To answer your question, (from experience, I had the wonderful opportunity to play bass for 5 different churches over many years. ) it is very good experience. Spiritually and musically. I played a 5 string because D, E, & F are popular keys. dont overplay. Now for the bad, you will see or experience church politics, feelings, and attitudes.
