Hi all,
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere. But looking for advice on lightweight combo/seperates for gigging.
Probably only small/medium size so maybe 300w?
Was looking at Fender Rumble and the TC Electronic BQ250 with RS212? But wondered if you had any other suggestions.
Thanks,
Lee

The lightest rig I have had is the current one, a 500W combo (800W with extension speaker) weighing under 10kg. The heaviest rig I have had was a Trace Elliot 4x10 combo weighing as much as a small neutron star. I had to carry it up a huge flight of stairs at the first gig I did with it. It didn't last long with me.
For flexibility, I'd go with separate amp and cab. For convenience, a combo. If you've got enough volume and the sound you want with the current combo and you don't mind the weight, there doesn't seem any point changing.
What is the light combo you mention?

If anyone is selling a 2x10 Bass cab (8ohm) let me know!!

I've managed to find a combo amp which seems to tick the boxes.
Its 300w the combo has 2 x 10" speakers and a tweeter.
Now apparently the combo is 250w with these onboard speakers but goes to 300w with external speaker attached.
My question....would you notice a (big) difference adding the exension cab?
Secondly...can anyone give me an example of an extension can I could use?
Cab needs to be 8ohms with speakon connection.
Thanks all.

Hi All, so I'm after an amp - I'm on a budget. This will mainly be for small/medium venue gigs and rehearsals.
I've seen these 2 amps used for £100.
1. Ashdown Mag300 with custom grille - I think this is the 2 x 10'' one. 300w
2. Peavey 115 - 1 x 15.. again 300w amp.
Obviously these are both well used but just wondering what your thoughts were? and any experience with these?

I got a Classic Vibe Jazz and after I changed the bridge to a Fender Hi-Mass, replaced the wiring loom with a series/parallel harness, replaced the pickups with something better and completely stripped the neck and refinished it I’m very happy with it.
Read into that what you will.

I ended up buying the Sire P5 that Jezza was selling.
I have to say it's very very nice!!
The neck is beautiful and it sounds lovely!!
I had previously tried a Squire CV a week before and the Sire was much nicer to play!

They are an exc example of a P bass and cheaper than a CV Squier. I have a Musicman Sterling to pay for and a few other P basses in hareem so this one is the best looking and hopefully should sell soon.
For a second opinion check out Lobster`s review.
I've seen this and commented on video, Lobster replied saying he'd take the P5 over a Squier CV or Mex Fender!

And there just happens to be a as new P 5 for sale on here saving £80 off the new price...
Why are you selling it after only having for short time? What did you think of it?

Where?

I'm definitely settled on a P Bass.
I've basically come down to two I think!
A new Sire P-5. Looks lovely and the reviews are really good.
Other option is a used Mexican Fender.
To be honest everything about the Sire looks lovely. Its just having the Fender name?!

Did the Fender Player Series effectively replace the MIM Fender?
-
serial number checks out - its a 2016/2017 Mex P Bass

Just seen someone by me selling mexican fender P Bass £470. Is that a good price? and noticably different to say a Squier CV?

And if you're going that near the shallow end, both Harley Benton and Revolution are cheaper, and better quality. I have had an Affinity and it was OK, it's just that the bass world's offering has changed a lot in say the last five years.
No wouldn't be going that low. Want something substantially better than what I've got now. So looking around £400.

The Sire P5 is a straight up passive Precision. The P7 is the one with the EQ.
I really like the look of the sea foam green P5.
Ye that green looks really nice! also live the sunburst tobacco.

Affinity isn't on the shortlist - the classic vibe is. Thought they were different?

Very first bass 90s curtain haircuts and garage band.
Was a Hohner "The Jack" Headless Bass. Bought off some fella in a pub carpark for £100 in 1997 I think!
Sold it a few years later for £100. Should have kept it!!

Glad I started this post as it's given me lots to think about and lots of tips so thanks all.
I'm leaning towards a shoot out between Squier CV 70s P Bass or a Sire P5 - but the Alder Body/Roasted Maple Neck of the Sire is swinging me towards that!
Unless a used Mexican P Bass comes along!
