Brilliant, thanks! I'll look into those suggestions
Fully agree this wouldn't be the place to cut corners

Real B15s are thin on the ground over here and increasingly expensive by the looks.
Does anyone know if there's anybody in the UK who does, or would, make an Ampeg B15 clone? (Just the head, not necessarily the cab as well)
As far as options, I know about the following which come as kits and pre-built:
- The Trinity Trip Top, which looks nice but not sure how often they make them and shipping from Canada is probably fairly significant.
- There's also the Ceriatone Aunt Peg, which is close, but based on this post, isn't quite a true clone because of the transformer used. Correct me if I'm wrong about this!
On the subject of kits, does anyone know someone who would build one for you? I don't have the training to mess with high voltages and I'm not daft enough to try
For the purposes of this, pretend I absolutely do not want a pedal or a preamp etc., just a valve head that sounds like a B15. Doesn't need to be exact, e.g. look like an Ampeg, or have two channels, etc.
Thanks in advance all!

There's a thread on talkbass where a few people who've bought them talked about their experiences http://www.talkbass.com/threads/hotone-thunder-bass-anyone-heard-of-it.1074630/
They seem to be pretty cool given you understand the limitations of a 5W head -
My LMIII with one of the old Barefaced Compacts works pretty nicely. Bit of warmth and very, very clean, which some people may not care for. I'd definitely recommend the LMIII if you want a clean amp with relatively little colouring; it's a nice little bit of kit.

Something funky and horn loaded? Bit different to your current lineup.

Hey all. Thanks for the replies and links. The fEARful stuff is a bit big for what I'm after. The simplexx is interesting, but from looking around they don't seem tremendously more easy to build than jacks (still perhaps beyond my very meager skills). Maybe I'll find the courage at some point.
