I have some already finished but I don't want to overwhelm you so I'll post them little by little. today another from LYLE LOVETT: I'll come knocking. a slow and beautiful ballad easy to read. another one which you can see how delicate can Lee play.

a bass line from Leland quite simple but one of the most beautiful ones I've heard. Lyle Lovett's SIMPLE SONG. give it a chance. it is worthy

I am catching up as I can with the transcriptions. another Lyle Lovett's one that Leland had played already last year. still surprises me how consistent Lee is with his lines.

I found that I was going all swing timing when leading with my index finger. I lead with my middle finger and it’s much more consistent
when practicing right hand technique, I always make my students play everything starting with each one. it is normal to have a preferred one. when I find myself starting all with the same one, I practice the other way around and then the secondary becomes primary and the story goes on and on

I would recommend to strict alternate fingering. if you master that, then to do a rake if needed is easy. the other way around is not so easy

after a long time Leland has played again. wishing a fast recovery to his wife Maureen

that's is why I never rake. I started my playing doing it and happened to me. then switched to strictly alternating. it was a pain for several months but it was worth it. and you know what? if really needed, I can still do it

I am not really a pick guy, but I use it when needed, sometimes in the middle of the song. I see no big problem in mixing techniques

if your internal clock is ok I will suggest to take some classes with a teacher that can fix your technique, it will be hard to fix that by yourself.
you can try a couple of things:
if you start always with the same finger on your right hand, try studying in reverse for a while and see what happens
try to play in front of a mirror to see if you observe a difference in the plucking with your fingers

Amazing thanks I'll give that a go.
So looks like a mix of accent shifts and a sneaky bar of 7 at the end of the section.
at least, that is how I hear it. with these things, different people hear different signatures, but that made a lot of sense for me

try the TUSQ ones, really a different sound

without seeing you, it seems you are using a style of plucking similar to Stanley Clarke's.
there are no good or bad techinques. each of them gives different sounds to your palette to choose. I always recommend my students to explore that part of the bass technique. normally people learn some way of plucking and stays there for ever till they die. well, I think they are missing something

it is normal. we are playing a guitar, and guitarists have had much more time in history to find ways to play the instrument we tend to overlook because we want to legitimize the bass guitar as a singular one. of course it has its peculiarities, but we are more close than far from our 6 stringed older brother

if you are having surgery on your fretting hand and you are a guitar player, you shouldn't try to play bass. it will put a lot of stress on it. I wouldn't recommend it. talk to your doctor. if you finally decide to do it, go to a really good teacher with good technique. I have been able to solve a lot of techinque issues with my students online. but sometimes a presential class is the only way to fix the smallest mistakes that we do when playing.

the pick is just another tool to use on the palette of sounds you can get with a bass. and there are plenty of examples of people getting a warm tone even with a pick
Steve Swallow is the first that comes to my mind
and here in Spain we have the great Carles Benavent

She's thinking about the bass line in isolation and not playing with the track.
She not a bad player. She's hitting the notes OK, just has to get the timing and groove right.
if you don't have the timing and you don't groove, you are not a good player.
and elastic time is not the same as sloppy, this is sloppy
