GR Bass AT500 or AT800 Cube.

I've got a GR Bass AT Cube 500 on the way. Should be here in a couple of days. I'm really interested to see how it compares to my current Fender Rumble Studio 40 or what I remember of the Rumble 200 combo that I sold before moving to 230V land.

Coming from a very novice prospective these are the paid courses I've signed up for:

ScottsBassLessons: I tried the free trial and was more impressed than I expected to be, enough so that I signed up for a year.
Once you get past the Youtube click-bait and the aggressive marketing there's loads of great interviews, lessons and the players path thing they started is fairly good if you're fickle and need something specific to work through.
The biggest bonus I've found with them is the amount of downloadable extras that come with all the various lessons/courses. If you're learning something there's often a selection of pdfs and backing tracks to use, great if you're not always by your computer..I stick a lot on my phone so I can play things or browse pieces at work or other places I don't have my desktop.

ArtistWorks Electric Bass with Nathan East: I picked this up because there was a Christmas offer of 50% off and I'm a fan of Nathan East.
In terms of content it's quite limited, a lot of the stuff is 5-10 minutes videos of Nathan going through a particular exercise with minimal if any extra resources to download or view.
It's very much a case of "here's the exercise, watch Nathan give a demo and brief description, now go Google some other resources to help it make sense if you need it".
The real benefit of this course is getting Nathans perspective on some things and having the chance to have him critique and respond to your playing via. videos, if you're a fan of his it could be worth it for that alone.

Are his course videos less talky than the free YT videos? He's good, but, sheesh, he can turn a 5 minute lesson into 15 minutes.

I think we’ve been over this sort of thing before. 😉 I prefer MB - so far at least - because to me they sound far more like Genesis did at the time, which is extremely important to me. Obviously YMMV. Thankfully, we have a choice.

TBH, I’ve also never quite forgiven Steve for the extended noodling solo at the end of Supper’s Ready when I last saw him. If I’d had a sniper’s rifle, it would have been used. 😂

So, what you wanted to have on hand was:

But what you were able to get past security was:

Can't remember which Basschatter put me on to Khruangbin, but I was listening, spellbound, the other day. I got to thinking; what is it this band I like? On the surface not my thing really. All that guitar noodling ought to be the last thing I like.

Then I realised. Listen to her bass. With only a very slight change of emphasis I could be listening to dub reggae. She has that same ability to pick out a phrase, with a great melodic hook, and sit with it, locked in with the drummer letting the lead instrument ramble and play over the top.

Anyone else hear what I'm hearing, or is this the rambling of a deranged mind?

Getting off-topic, but I've gotta give a shoutout to Warpaint. Been watching quite of bit recently. Would make a nice twin bill with Khruangbin.

I suppose there are many factors involved. 🙂

I read somewhere that Aston Barrett uses a 5 string set on his 4 string Jazz bass, discarding the thin one.

Do you know if he still tunes it EADG, or does he drop it to Eb or D? Or some otherworldly tuning? TIA

Youtube favourite which I keep coming back to.

Not well known.... but brilliant punk / power pop from 1980 Canadian band The Modernettes "Barbra".

All in 2 minutes.....and the bass player is pretty cool too!

    Better than expected!

Talk about riding the root! She finally came off it in the coda. Took me back to the late '60s when I was a punk. 😎

Just discovered Robert Jon and the Wreck - cracking country blues rock.  I found them via Warren Huart's Produce Like A Pro Academy as one of their tracks (Blame It On The Whiskey) was available as a full tracks download to mix yourself - really enjoying listening to the album and using it as a reference for my own mix.

Excellent find! Here's their YouTube channel. Tons of good tunes!

Just listened to Tubeway Army's "Replicas" album. It was featured in full in a 6music show.

I bought it when it came out, but not listened to it much since really. I usually think of Gary as a great innovator with a few great singles.... but actually was pleased t osee the album stills folds up really well.

Was a fan then. Still a fan. His latest album is excellent!
