    Super light weight for a 5er at 8.5lbs. Wonderful balance too, no neck dive at all.

     

    The factory Hardcore Ageing is beautifully done.

     

    Absolutely pro level bass for not a lot of money!

    I don't plan on using any additional controlers or anything, the synth FX would only be used here and there and not very heavily used so I don't need to be able to switch between 4 presets in a single song or anything like that.

     

    It's what I do with my Aftershock. I stored 6 presets and I've never gone back to edit anything: I choose the preset I want to use and I tweak gain or whatever at the pedal itself. I use two different overdrive pedals for different sounds, and the Aftershock to provide whatever else I can't get from the others... sometimes it's a heavy fuzz, sometimes a gritty overdrive...

     

    I would prefer if the C4 had 27 physical knobs and 12 switches but it would be the size of Pluto.

    I used a EXH Microsynth a lot over the years. I loved its simplicity. It was just a shame it could not store presets. The C4 does a million more things, but the controls are hidden. We need these two to have a baby!

     

     

     

     

    This is exactly how I use it.  I use 2 proper synth sounds, 2 auto-Wah type filters and one weird fuzz Wah sound. This does me for two bands and a combined set list of over 100 songs.

    The odd time to just download presets might be ok, but other than that... nah.

    As I said in an early reply - if you’re not prepared/willing to spend some time at a PC with it it’s not worth spending £250 on one. You’ll just get fed up with it pretty quickly I reckon.

  4. Morning all!

    Ive got a Ibanez with Nordstrand Big Splits in it and, frankly, I love the sound.  I use it in passive mode with the normal tone knob and only ever engage the active preamp when I want a mid boost, so it’s definitely the pickups rather than anything else.

    Essentially, I want make my Jazz basses sound more like this.  I know it won’t be exactly the same but I’m after something in the same ball park.

    Ive included the description and “tone chart” from the Nordstrand website below.

    Options I’ve considered are:

    -Duncan Apollo Jazz set

    -Dimarzio Ultra Jazz or Model J

    Is there anything else I should be looking at?

    Has anyone got any real world, first hand experience of the ultimate JvsP crossover????

    Using the mobile neuro app other than that isn't really too hard once you work out how to edit the community uploaded presets, that took me a while to work that i needed to slide on presets to access that. 

     

    The only thing I'm really disappointed in really is the polyphonic pitch sounds, the latency makes it kinda unusable for me but tbh the monophonic will probably do for most of the applications where the lag bugs me.  Probably means I'm gonna try out a the OC-5 once there's actually stock about to see if it'll replace my oc-2.

     

    Next challenge is to decide on where to put it in my chain. I'm thinking after the oc-2 before fuzz and drives but also wondering about once I have a midi controller setting the C4's dual outputs as a effects loop and running them in the loop.

     

    Ok that sounds weird.  There should be little to no “latency” on poly sounds.  I’m playing full chords with no issues.

     

    There is a button on the full editing to switch between faster tracking or most accurate tracking - more reason to beg your housemate I think!!!

    Of course that will take up extra space (if money is no issue One Control makes a clean blend effect looper in mini pedal format, and actually it's only a bit more expensive than the LS-2), but it'll get you a clean blend for the Orange Fur Coat, and as a bonus you can use it for other pedals too, or other stuff.

     

    Though personally I wouldn't miss a clean blend for that pedal.

    I ended up going with a Pork & Pickle.  More than I wanted to spend on a fuzz but it does everything I need and pops from a mix more than a traditional Muff style.

    There are even some of EHX's own Big Muff variants that ironically, at least as  far as I am concerned, sound better on bass.

     

    The clean blend switch on the Bass Big Muff also seems completely useless to me, like, in my opinion at least, they got the balance all wrong, as the clean signal is way to loud, which makes it sound like a dominating clean signal layer sort of laying on top of a background distorted signal, almost sounding like background noise from a faulty circuit, instead of the fuzz and clean signal actually blending together as one single signal, in my opinion they should just have added a regular clean blend knob that let you blend in as much or little clean signal as you liked.

     

    I might not be the best person to ask this question though as I generally don't really like Big Muffs, regardless of variant (though some do work slightly better for bass than others, as said the Bass Big Muff ironically not being one of those), for bass at all, they lack definition and kills all articulation, partially because of their baked in more or less scooped tone, depending on specific variant, but even if you do boost the mids that will only improve definition and articulation a slight bit, which will still be far too little, as far as I am concerned Big Muff type fuzz just inherently makes your bass sound like a muddy dull inarticulate definitionless mess.

     

    And it's not even because I dislike fuzz and high gain distortion applied to bass, I generally very much like it, I just don't like how Big Muff based fuzzes makes a bass sound.

     

    In my opinion this is how fuzz bass is supposed to sound:

     

    Indefinitely greater sounding than any Big Muff variant will ever be.

     

    When that is said I do actually in general really like how most Big Muff variants sound used with guitar.

     

    A guitar run through an OP Amp Muff is beautifully gnarly, through a Triangle Muff lovely gritty, and through a Ram's Head deliciously creamy and gloriously huge.    

     

    On bass though, no matter the variant, a muddy dull inarticulate definitionless mess.

     

    If the Orange had a clean blend knob it would be a no-brainer. It’s the only thing that’s prevented me from snapping one up.

  8. I’ve had a jack socket fall apart just as I tried to plug in for the first song. Gone inside the body.  Easy fix when I got home.
     

    Doing it on a dark stage with people watching? No chance.

     

    I just grabbed bass 2, tuned it to standard and we started the set on time.

    As others have said, if you're gigging, two basses are a must.  There's just no way I would go to a gig with one bass, as you just never know what may happen.  I can totally get how a bedroom bassist may have one holy grail bass and not care about any others though.  A decade or so ago I was in that position, when really the only other basses hanging around were just waiting to be sold after being "replaced". For financial reasons, a combination of expensive taste and lack of disposable income, I now actually only ever have two basses at any time.

     

    Conversely, I use a Quad Cortex now for all effects/DI needs, and my only backup for that is plugging into the house amp/DI.    I effectively take all of my equipment to every gig as a result!

    That’s a good point.  I bet even the super pro legends who only ever seemed to use one bass had a backup that lived in its case, was kept in good condition by a roadie and was ready to go at any moment.

    God no.  I hated it. Replaced it with a Way Huge Pork and Pickle and my life is much better.

     

    Its a Green Russian with a wonderfully flexible clean blend. And it’s tiny.

  11. I’d could legitimately get by with this and only this, but I do tend to take a “normal” 4 string to gigs for the Drop D songs, just because it’s faster to swap basses than retune.

     

    My MM/P Frankenstein is like 8lb (just over) but it feels like a boat anchor after playing this!

  12. I’ve had mine a few days now so here is my take.

     

    if you aren’t prepared to hook it up to your PC forget it.

     

    If you are prepared to spend a few days trying out various presets, tweaking them to your needs and saving 6 easy access presets then it’s simply the best synth pedal out there.

     

    Tracking is superb.  The onboard fuzzes and overdrives are actually great. 6 easy access presets is more than enough for most set lists.

     

    You don’t “need” to buy anything else to get the most out of it if you already have a computer.

     

    I love it. It’s phenomenal.
