Just bought the orange 5 string from Curly Music. It's not in great condition. Barrel jack is faulty (as usual). G-string had been replaced with  a D string. Needs a really good clean up, new strings, new barrel jack and it should be good to go.

Curly Music gave me a pretty good discount off the price to reflect its current condition.

It's surprisingly light for a 5 string but most importantly it's metallic orange.

My Yamaha collection is on the rise again after I had previously sold my 5  Yamaha BB's as I fell out of love with shape of them and bought a few Fenders instead. Now have the

    BB 414, 424 and now 415.

The 414 gets used for every gig.

Are you getting another 734A or sticking with the 400s this time?

Typically Yamaha run like a car manufacturer, 6-8 years of a model and the colour changes happen towards the end.

    you’re probably right.

    now….if they do

the “classic BB” like the 414 (basically a 1600 reissue)

with the multi lam neck 424/1024/2024

with the fancy sandwich body and 6 bolt neck 434/p34

    we’re getting close to perfection

@Machines and I spoke earlier about this.

    Agree 100%.

with less trebly/"modern" pickups than the latest version

Really like the bb1600 in this “gunmetal” finish. But they seem to be a unicorn amongst unicorns…

That is really nice, James Bond anonymous but classy, much better than something that screams 'look at me' IMO

Just to clarify I am very much NOT saying there is no difference at all.

OK, but I think there's a cigarette paper's difference between 'pretty identical' (to use your words), and no difference at all.

    I don't have either, I'm sticking with my 424 for now 🙂 but I'll probably go for a 734A or a BBP34 when I upgrade.

  5. I've scoured this thread in the past for insight into this 1024/2024 question!

All I'd say is that there are posters earlier in the thread who say they see a big difference. And Al who says he sees no difference at all.

So the answer is it's in the eye of the beholder 👍

    Fixed.

The current Series "3" BB734A doesn't really have a direct predecessor in the Series "2" range, it's really a combination of features from the Series 1 BB614 with the Series 2 BB1024.

Personally if I had to chose, I would actually go for a 1024 over the 734A  - or more accurately the 1025 over the 735A.

And yet interestingly, for tonal reasons, if I had to choose between the 734A and the BBP34, I'd choose the 734A.
