1. It does look great! There are actually completed photos over at http://basschat.co.uk/topic/9623-acg-build-progress/page__st__1320__p__1528232#entry1528232

    Looks good! Great woods.
Curious about how it will look when finished :)

  2. I'm not quite sure why the BassXX is described as a "filter-based" preamp in their description--I don't see any indication that it's any different from any other typical 3-band set up with sweepable-frequency mid control like the EMG or the East.

The ACG, and other filter-based preamps like Wal and Alembic, are a whole different ball or wax. I've owned both Wal and ACG and played the Alembics, and you really have to approach the EQ very differently.

  3. I really like the Salace shape. Seeing the headed version with the extra curve in the tail, it does remind me a bit of one of JP Basses designs, but I can't say that's a bad thing--JP made some beautiful instruments.

    Shape for the headed Salace.

Wow, I've gone for 16.5mm on my new 6er with a 52mm nut - I've found that smaller dimensions make things easier for a stocky little Scotsman like myself! You must be a big lad!
Not at all--5'8" or so. Just not a lot of finesse in my playing, so I need lots of room to flail about...

But back to Scoop's lovely lady in waiting. Is she going to have gold hardware for a bit of bling? :) (Normally I'm not much on gold hardware, but with these woods it might actually look nice...)

Wide-*ss? What the hell spacing you going for?..
20mm string spacing at the bridge, with a 50mm nut, same as my Curbows. Rightly or wrongly, that's just the size that feels like a "real" bass to me! :) (in honor of "Talk Like a Pirate Day").

  6.
I know the feeling mate, I have an "ACG Shopping List" with all my, hopefully, future basses all specced up in order of justifiability.
    Sad I know...

    Eude
It does nothing to lessen my excitement about my nearly-complete Recurve S ( :) ), but I've got to have someplace for all those ideas that didn't quite fit into that bass (and goodness knows, I managed to squeeze enough ideas into that one!)

  7.
I guess it might :)
You thinking of ordering another bass soon?...

    Eude
I'm always thinking about ordering another bass. Being able to afford another bass is a different matter entirely...

  8.
I'm very new to the Lakland owners club, having recently acquired two 55-02's (and love 'em!), but is it just me or is there a consensus they seem to be hungry buggers, needing a new battery every other week, or less if gigging hard? (I've owned active basses since 1986 so am comparing with plenty of alternatives!)
I had a problem with one of my 55-01s, and I've heard of others with the same problem, where the shielding in the control cavity (or on the cover?) made contact with the jack and grounded it, which ends up having the same effect as having a cable plugged in. That caused the battery to drain just like you're describing. Unfortunately, it's been quite a few years ago, so I don't remember the details of diagnosing and fixing it, but I'd double-check the shielding to make sure it's not making contact where it shouldn't

  9.
Sounds great. I like the fingerboard wood in particular (Alan has a great selection of woods). Is the Salace body shape on ACG website? I can't seem to find it.
There are some in-progress photos of Sugden's earlier Salace order down in Alan's thread in the Affiliate's Forum: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;#entry1163639 ...and earlier in this thread, now that I look back (doh!). Basically, it's a combination of Gallus and Harlot shapes.

  10.
Looking at the dates for the bass bash (early Feb?) I don't imagine that it's going to be possible for Alan to shave 4-5 months off the projected build time - nor would I want him to really, I'd rather he took his time and got it right than rushed it.
I don't think Alan would rush this build for Bass Bash, or do anything that would compromise the result. Still, if you make plans to go, you'd have a chance to play other ACGs, and possibly see the progress on yours in person, so be sure and get it on your calendar!

  11.
Advice: forget about it as much as possible. Then every update is like a little blast of unexpected awesomeness. :)
Also, that removes the temptation to second-guess every spec choice you made, or to constantly think of new ideas to make it "even more awesome". :)
