1. In 1972; when I thought my bass playing days were done, I sold my battered old 1961 'P' bass to an old guy in Failsworth, Manchester. It had seen a bit action in the German clubs in the 60's, a bit dinged, the frets were worn but it played fine. At some stage it was sprayed powder/wedgewood blue, originally it was a sunburst. It had a tortoiseshell scratchplate, maple neck, rosewood board...and I would really like to know what happened to it....or better still try to buy it back!!! It's got a few distinctive dings and a special mark that I put on all my basses in case they get lost or stolen...so I am pretty sure that I would recognise it again. Please can any of you guys help? You can reach me at [email protected] or 07860 587 999. PS. There's a photo on e-Bay at the moment with me and Noel Redding when he was our lead guitarist with Neil Landon and The Burnetts in the year we both trotted off to meet Chas Chandler and Jimi Hendrix in London. Noel had gone for the lead guitarists job with the reforming Animals II, but as it turned out he was offered the job with Hendrix and the rest as they say..."is history". Check out 'Bye Bye Johnny' on Youtube...that's the bass...and that's rock-n-roll man!!! Hope to hear from you thanks for taking the trouble to read this. PPS. I'm an ex Mancunian having played with:- The Topliners, The Skyliners with Mike McConnell on lead guitar, (I had to learn the solo to Jet Harris's Niram to get that job), Deek Rivers and The Big Sound, Mike Cadillac and the Playboys and a short stint with Glynn Ellis and the Jets before they became Wayne Fontana and The Mindbenders when my brother Bob took over. Cheers. Kevin.
2. Hi guys, I was wondering if you could please give me some help. Do you know where my old 'P' bass is now ??????? I bought it in the 1960's and sold it in 1972 to an old guy who lived in the Chadderton or Failsworth area of north Manchester, if the bass is still knocking around I would love to know what became of it. Originally it was a sunburst, I resprayed it powder blue. It has a tortoise-shell scratch-plate, rosewood fingerboard and very very worn frets. This bass was played from the early 1960's in the following bands:- Lee Fender and The Top-Liners. Dave Blakley and The Sky-Liners. Deek Rivers and the Big Sound. The Manchester Big Three. Mike Cadillac and The Manchester Playboys Barry James and the Strangers (The Barry James show) Glynn Ellis and The Jets (who reformed and became Wayne Fontana and The Mindbenders, my brother Bob joined them and I went to Germany with The Burnetts. Neil Landon and The Burnetts (the Noel Redding connection) ******************************************************************** So if you can help I would be very grateful and thanks for reading this. Also if any of the band members and friends from those great days read this it would be great to hear from you. Thank you. Kevin Lang. m: 07860 587 999
