    Hi all,

I'm selling my GSS Baby Sumo 600w that I bought at the end of October last year.

I originally bought the Sumo to add to the end of my pedal board, but have found that I've been using my orange terror bass ll head, since having the Orange head repaired (see previous posts).

and now the Baby Sumo is just sitting in it's box.

It's only been gigged once and in near new condition. There is a little mark on the top front left corner, which you might just be able to see in the pictures, but I didn't notice it until I took the pictures.

I have stuck dual lock adhesive pads to the bottom but it still sits on the feet, so haven't removed it as you might want to fix it to your board (or cab) too.

These are great amps and you'll find plenty of glowing reviews about them, it's just not for me.

Price includes postage and it comes with case, manual, power lead etc. I'll also include the paperwork.

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

    Thanks for looking!

That's true, almost had one hit me in the face once... and the Negative Temperature Coefficient Thermistors used to break off the IEC inlets, and the 6V reg for the heaters in the preamp valves used to to fail. The switching FETs in the supply would short out. The rectifier diodes mounted under the power transformer would expire. The switching IC's driving the power supply FET's would expire. The core in the transformers would come loose and rattle about in the middle of the windings. The posts the power supply PCBs were attached to would break off. Inductors on the output PCB would break off. The switching frequency for the output drivers would come out of calibration (set by two little trim pots). The potential divider on the output PCB that sets a reference frequency that determines the "dead time" of the output FETs isn't set to anything from the driver chip spec sheet. So "dead time" is minimal, which means there's very little time when one output FET turns off and the next in the pair turns on, which increases the risk of shoot through in the output FETs. I'm fairly certain it was also designed around 230V mains, when we have up to 252V here IIRC. The input to the supply is a voltage doubler when switch to 120V for the US, so that makes issues with spicy mains worse I think. My guess is that's partly why some people would have repeat problems even after all the PCB's in their amp being swapped out.

I won't even try and pretend I know what all that means! So a define trip to Orange is on the cards. Thanks everyone 👍

  3. My first action was to email Orange and they gave me a guys details but he was miles away.

I'm in Barnwell, about 16 miles away from Peterborough. So I took it to my old tech guy in Bedford but after he'd had two attempts i thought I'd ask around before taking it anywhere else.

It has been intermittent in the past, but I think my techs hearing there's a signal and thinking he's fixed it, but it's not even at a ¼ of the volume.

  4. Amp now Fixed - I took it into Orange and it turned out to be a dodgy treble pot!

I've had the same problem, Just posted this 5 mins ago in the Repairs and Technical section. Did you ever get it fixed?

    Hi all,

Over the last few months I've been having problems with my terror bass head.

When I go through the pre-amp I'm only getting a fraction of the volume from the amp and sometimes nothing at all. But if I plug in through the send of the effects loop I get the full 500 watts of the power amp!

So it's got to be a problem between the pre-amp and the power amp.

I've tried changing the valves and lost faith in my local amp tech guy, as I've taken it to him twice now, only for me to get it home and find it's exactly the same.

Anybody here had a similar problem?

At the moment I've managed to get over the problem by running a 'two tones revolt bass pre-amp' into the power amp, which to be honest I really like the sound of, so will probably carry on with this set up, but I'd still like to get the amp fixed.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

    Tony

I'm Selling my TC Electronic Spectracomp Bass Compressor Pedal.

I'm afraid I can't find the box so it's just the pedal, but it will be well packed if posted.

There is a small chip on the bottom left corner under the TC logo, but you must look hard to see it & some of the print on the front has slightly rubbed off.

Apart from that it's in excellent condition.

Can be picked up from PE8 (Barnwell) or can be posted for an additional £8.95 signed for/fully insured.

  7. Hi all,

I'm selling my Darkglass Microtubes B7K V2 Analog DI Bass Preamp Pedal

I've had the pedal for a couple of years now but have recently changed my set up, so it's no longer needed.

It's in good condition apart from a few scratches on the back of the unit.

Comes with the original box, instruction booklet (which has a bit of water/ beer? damage to the front) & sticky feet that haven't been used.

Can be picked up from PE8 (Barnwell) or I can post recorded delivery/fully insured for an additional £8.95

    Design and Tone. Perfected.

Tone crushing overdrive and super transparent modern sound is the essence of the Microtubes B7K. One of the most acclaimed Darkglass pedals in the bass community, it doesn´t compromise the original sound of the instrument, but it enhances its presence in the mix.

    Front Features

    Blend

Mixes the clean input signal with the overdriven signal. The clean signal remains at unity gain while the volume of the overdriven signal is set by the Level knob, allowing for fine control of the blend ratio.

    Level

Sets the volume of the overdriven signal.

    Drive

Sets the amount of saturation in the overdriven signal.

    Attack Switch

Sets the amount of treble content to saturate: The “Boost” setting emphasizes the treble content extra clarity and presence. The “Flat” position leaves this register untouched while the “Cut” position will reduce the amount of high frequencies being saturated. This new addition helps to keep the treble portion of the signal under control, specially useful when playing with new strings and/or cabinets with tweeters!

  8. Hi all,

I'm selling my Barefaced Four10 Cab with Roqsolid cover as I now have its big brother The Six10.

The cab has some very slight lifting of the tolex on the back, (which is a well-known trait of these cabs) but otherwise in excellent condition.

Comes with castors fitted that can be taken off if not required (I have the original rubber feet which are included in the sale).

Can be collected and tried out at PE8 (Barnwell) or I can meet up halfway within a 75mile radius for petrol money.

I'd rather not courier but if no other option is available, I could send insured for an extra £65 (Mainland UK Only).

Any questions feel free to message me & thanks for looking.

    Hi All,

I'm selling one of my Barefaced Four10 cabs as I'd like to eventually get a Six 10.

I have two cabs and don't mind which cab I sell; both are in good condition with Barefaced covers and the usual tolex lift on the back of the cabs but nothing bad.

If you have a Six 10 I'd be happy to figure out a trade with cash your way.

Alternatively, I may be interested in swapping one of my Four10s for a Two10 (with steel grill & ohms switch) and cash coming my way.

I want £700 for one cab.

I'm based near Oundle PE8 but could meet up halfway within a 60-mile radius.

Alternatively, you could come to mine and try the cabs out or I could courier with DPD (insured) for another £65

This is the first time I've sold anything on Bass Chat, but you can check my previous feedback out on Ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/fdbk/feedback_profile/tonysotb

    Cheers

    Tony

I'm more than happy with class D amps and their light weight form factor. Yes, there are some that aren't so great but there are some that are. For the past 5 years or so I've been using a Genzler Magellan and it has all the heft - I might as well be the first to say it - that I need and then some. Very much a deep, clear and weighty sound. I also have the 350 as a backup amp and have gigged and rehearsed with it many times too and have never come close to running out of power or struggling to make the bass be heard, that's playing in a moderately loud pub/function band. Certainly no depth or projection issues at volume.

I think I've posted this before but the most gutless amp that I've had the misfortune to own was a Trace Elliot SMX head through a pair of 15" Trace cabs, back in the early 90's. These amps seem to be regarded as something magical these days but I have no idea why, it was at best a 1 trick pony, virtually no grunt or projection in the low end or the low mids and a seemingly constant spike in the 2-4Khz region that got fatiguing on the ears really quickly. A million tone shaping options on the pre-amp but nothing that really translated through the speakers into anything other than trying to make you sound like a clanky Mark King wannabe, albeit without any noticeable low end in your sound. A truly awful amp, IMO and IME.

And a couple of years ago I bought an Ashdown Little Stubby because we all 'know' valves are the best and that I must surely be missing out with my meager class D amps 😀. It was alright but nothing spectacular. It certainly didn't blow me away in the way that the internet had told me it would 😱🤷‍♂️😀. Trouble is that to get it sounding anywhere near what I wanted (classic 70's on the edge of breakup type rock tones) at home, the reason I bought it, you had to push it too hard and loud at to be unusable without annoying the family and the neighbours. But it wasn't loud enough to realistically use in a band context either. I'm sure it's a great amp if you're able to push it without annoying a lot of people around you but I wouldn't describe it as any sort of life changing mystical experience. Certainly nothing to sway me away from my Magellans.

After returning the Little Stubby for a refund I picked up an Ashdown Touring 220 combo for a steal from eBay. It's an all valve pre-amp into (I think) a 220 watt class A/B power section - but I'm happy to be corrected on the technical details if that's not right. It's a much more pleasing amp to my ears than the Little Stubby was and the passive EQ stack is great once you get used to it. And as much as I highly rate the Touring 220 combo, it doesn't do anything, or have more heft or whatever, than my Magellans.

We're all different, YMMV, horses for courses, each to their own, etc.

Just thought I'd better get that in before the ratting of pitchforks starts 😁
