Got carried away and posted this too A Remark You Made

Hi there,
My new project had it's first outing last Sunday after a hastily arranged rehearsal.
Here are a couple of tracks recorded on a Zoom h4n (whatever that is) using its own microphone.

Chris,
I'd be interested in your HD350 as I'm trying to build a lighter weight EBS set up. I've currently got an older Gorm 210 combo and love it but get very irritated by the prospect of lugging it up stairs.
This is not much help really as I'd need to shift the combo and simultaneously get hold of a NEO 210.
I'll get on it, meanwhile good luck,

Hah, we had a two hour rehearsal for this two hour gig yesterday. Anyone coming along should expect some serious high wire action.

The Weatherheads in preview, 15th January 2012, Leytonstone
This is the first outing for my insanely ambitious new project. An evening of classic fusion featuring the music of Weather Report and the Headhunters.
See here for details
Free to all bass chatters, free to all actually.
Cheers, and a glorious 2012 to all,

PM'd,

I'm a fan of Norman's playing but I'd be more interested in the bass he recorded the old Blockheads tunes with. Whatever that was.
That's true, if it was the hit maker that would be make a big difference, didn't he use some p/j thing back then. -
I live very close to Andy Baxter and have been meaning to give him a call and take my old Stingray in for a valuation. I'd love to have the opportunity to check out Norman's Jazz.
Personally I think that the provenance surcharge is over done, but saying that if it plays well then maybe it would be worth it. I'd love to gig it. -
PM winging its way...

Hi, I've got nothing suitable to offer in exchange I'm afraid. Are you possibly considering a straight sale?
-
I bought some replacement saddles for a Badass once so all of these bridges could be serviceable, but y'all probably know that. I have no idea what they cost though.

Hi there,

Hi Ben,
I'll take the Evahs for twenty quid if that's not too cheeky.

Thanks for that Jigster. Any more anyone? -
And what will the 75 do while in retirment?
Well, not really retired. I've had it for over thirty years and it has undergone several incarnations being fretless for twenty years with an ebony board. I threw the original scratchplate away sometime in the eighties and the original pickups went soon after. It's now back fretted but the neck has always been a bit unstable. It'll certainly get played in the studio as it has such a biffy tone.
One of the big problems is that this bass together with my 1977 Stingray is that I just get so worried gigging them, as I'd hate to lose them.
So I just want something I can gig and enjoy and not fret about.
Cheers,
Kevin -
Hi there,
I'm looking to buy a road worn Jazz (Mexican) and want to try out as many as possible before purchase. If any of you out there know of any stockist in the London area could you let me know where. I have tried a couple of store ones already, one was ok but the other was pretty near unplayable. Alternatively if there is an owner in the North London area with a nicely set up example that wouldn't mind me having a bit of a play that would be dandy.
In anticipation,
Kevin -
Very nice and very tempting...
I'm with the it's too subjective camp, but my favourtie UK players are Tom Jenkinson (A.K.A. Squarepusher) and James Leach from SikTh.
I found out only recently that Tom Jenkinson used to live directly across the street from me, as in looking into each others windows. That guy must have ripped off everything. -
Hi Kevin
does this mean basschat has got a "real" bassist on it.....
looking forward to picking your brain.....
regards...Paul
Hi Paul,
Please feel free to pick away, although to listen to a real bass player listen to x-factor/strictly on a Saturday night or any West End show where our real champions live.
I'm just getting back into it, and am so impressed with the standard of new young jazz bass players that I meet.
There are of course the soi disant stylists, and you have to figure which camp you're in.
I'm still on that many thousand hour road that hopefully will never end.
Oops, late night, post gig, must shut up.
Regards,
Pino huh? Did anyone outside the band give you a hard time? Seems similar to when Pino took over from John Entwhistle!
Dear Stwtts,
Strangely enough you are the first person that's ever asked me that. I never really considered that there would be any acrimony from Paul's fans, and I really can't remember there ever being an issue. I'd done my homework, had the chops and a decent sound and was very much up for the job.
There was some freindly and quite affectionate joshing from the crew though who spent a very amusing afternoon at the Hammersmith Odeon as was, reminding me at every opportunity that 'Pino's in tonight'. When I went on stage that evening they had covered my amp with pictures of the great man and were giving me the thumbs up/down from the wings.
Saying all this, I'm glad that I didn't have to do it in this internet age, which would certainly have made me better known but would surely have attracted a whole load of criticism and public scrutiny.
Cheers, thanks for that,
Kevin -
MySpace friends with Same Difference eh?
Have you met them in real life?
Do they ever stop smiling
Hi Molan,
No, it's all meant to a bit ironic really.
I once, however spent a weekend as a Rubette (if you remember them).
hiya Kevin, so you took over the bass chair from Pino with Paul Young? What made you retire eventually?
Crazykiwi,
Well I came off a tour on a Monday, my daughter was born on the Thursday and I was back behind a desk programing computers the following week.
That's the danger of having something to fall back on I suppose.
Playing for Paul was a fantastic experience, he was lovely to play for and made my stepping into Pino's shoes as stressless as possible. Could have been worse, could have been Weather Report.
I got back playing about four years ago, went and bought an upright and now probably two thirds of my work is on the double bass.
I'm going to enjoy nosing round this site.
Regards,
Kevin -
Hi everyone,
I'm a returning bass player who took twelve years off, but never sold the basses.
I live in London and am mostly to be found playing jazz and theatre with the odd soul/rock/funk outing.
Not him again!
Cheers,
Kevin

This Jaco Bravewood has sold...
in Basses For Sale
Posted
Nick very kindly let me see, hear and generally fumble about on this bass last week. It's a fantastic instrument that plays very nicely, looks stunning and most impressively really works as a whole. It will certainly do the Jaco thing but it also has a lovely full dark tone in there as well. I'd never seen a Bravewood before and It's fabulously well made and obviously a product of someone with real talent.
Pretty special really.
