Ooh, I was after that one on ebay. Potentially a bastard to renovate so decided to make a low bid.

But yeah, blazers are amazing. I honestly think I'd be happy enough to never buy another bass again!
Hi Truckstop, I picked it up from the post office this afternoon. It is a little battered but everything works. Electrics, truss rod, neck is perfect, just needs a really good bit of TLC.
I love the colour, not many of these around.

  2. I'm in the process of renovating a right handed Ibanez Blazer bass, 1982, in Sonic Blue. She needs a little TLC (new strings, deep clean, set up, fret polish, electronics checking) but structurally this is a very, very sound bass. I owned one in the early 80's, in natural finish, left handed as my first bass and after messing aound on this right handed version, I totally regret getting rid of mine. Better sounding and playing than a lot of Fender basses that I have repaired or played over the years. On the look out for a lefty, now. :)

Lord Leverhulme, IIRC, bitching about how much his ad budget cost. Chap that owned Lever Bros Lux, Lifebuoy soap etc.

Marketing? Thing is, you're a manufacturer and you're sat there with - say - a jackplug and you think "Well, what can I say about this, it's only a f**king plug". Well, what do you do?

You hire some little advertising squit in a trendy t-shirt and he goes away and he comes back with some boards and whips the cover off and it's a picture of the jackplug and a slogan that says:

"It's only a f**king jackplug. But it'll get you laid."

    Huzzah! Trebles all round!
Lordy, from my neck of the woods. My best friends brother-in-law was the late Lord Leverhulme's body guard/ driver.

Part of the story, the most exciting part:

Marshall JCM 800 bass series head from 1980 or 1981 and an Ampeg V-2 4x12. I believe the cab is early 70s. It weighs so much. It takes 3 full grown men to get it up or down the stairs to our practice room.
That is the coolest rig ever posted on here, seriously.

  6. Next time we get compliaments, why not say, "yeah, cheers. I mix the output of both pickups to a kind of low mid thump, with a dark overtone, then I let the compressor add a cool slam, boost 180 Hz by about 3 Db, add a notch of 7K, just to let the bottom end have a bit of air, then the signal is sent to the 4 ten inch speakers, with a hot DI feed going FOH".

And then watch their faces change.

My copy arrived this morning - the fan pack is really a great idea. Mega magazine. The CD book format is very cool also.

I'm enjoying the album so far. I'll give it s few listens before I make any comment - I don't want to make any RASH statements. Saying that, I'm enjoying the looser, "live in the studio" feel to the album. The track "The Wreckers" has a "Live At Leeds / The Who" vibe to it.
Like it.
