Interesting however your web site gives neither dimensions nor price so how can I compare it with others?

We don't put prices on our website but the price is around £65 at most dealers in the UK.

Good point on the dimensions. I've just done a quick measurement and its about 1.75 inches wide and under 5 inches long.

    Just saying ;)

Seriously though, it is narrower than most other tuners on the market which, when we researched, was found to be the important things for players. It wasn't necessarily the height / length of a pedal that concerned players but more the width. Super fast tuning and easy to read.

  3. Thanks for the feedback / review. I'm pleased you noticed some of the positive aspects to the strings, such as the excellent tuning stability. You are correct on lifespan. A coated string will nearly always last longer than an uncoated one, it comes down to feel and tone and which you prefer / what you need from a string.

Glad you tried them out so quickly!

Hi Adam, The residue is black and oily. Just to be clear, this is almost certainly to do with me handling building tools & substances at the moment, I've never had the issue before and I've been using NYXLs for years.

Hi. No problem, let me know your findings. If you have any difficulties drop me a message!

are the NYXLs coated? how do they differ from XLs?

XL user since 1979 but am experimenting lately, Chromes, Rotos, D'Addario Half Rounds etc

    Hi Bazz,
No they are not coated. There is lots of information floating around on NYXL but in a nutshell:

    Reformulated 'NY Steel' core:
    - Vastly improved tuning stabillity
    - Retains bright tone for longer
    - Crunchier tone with inherent boost at around 1.5 - 4khz (modernising overall tone)

    Reformulated Nickel-Plated Steel wrap:
    - Less corrosive / longer lasting
    - Slight louder / more output

Thanks for your loyal custom over the last nearly 40 years!!

    Adam.

I have a massive issue with my body chemistry deadening strings quickly, and was luckily given some bonus D’Addario player circle points to try the NYXL strings.

Despite not being marketed as lasting longer than any other strings they have massively more life in them than any other uncoated nickel strings I have used over the years.

like someone else mentioned they are beautifully packaged and I love getting a little sticker as a bonus when your spending a good chunk on a set of strings.

Mom currently deliberating more or going back to Elixir but it’s a tough choice.🤔

Glad it was a good experience!

You are right, we don't market them as a longer life string but the majority of people (including myself) find they last much longer. The reformulated alloy is less corrosive to start with which certainly helps, but the real deal-maker is the strings retain their overall brightness for much longer, so as long as you keep them physically clean and playable, they should sound fresh for a long time.

May be a little late to the party on these, but I bought a set last week (45-100), and fitted them to my US Geddy Lee Jazz.

Wow! They are really excellent. I used to use the standard XL strings for some years, but the last few, I've been using Fender flats.

Tried some Fender nickels on the bass, and they just didn't cut it. Did some research.....looked at DR....lots of various materials/compounds, but stumbled across the NYXL's.

Fitted them last week, and the bass was transformed. It was great before, but these have made it take off - love the tension, feel, balance, can't fault them at all.

They feel really nice of the fingers, quite soft - I'm assuming they'll be kind to the frets as well, feeling like they do!

Not the cheapest, but if anyone is considering a set, give them a try. Definitely feel a league above the 'standard' XL....and the packaging is awesome as well!

Well done D'addario. You've won me back! 😁

    Welcome back to the family!

    Hi Adam,

What are your companies thoughts on cutting the string to length before installing. I have never had an issue with this after using your strings for 15years but other companies mention about the potential of the core wire slipping when you cut them.

    Hi man.
I've never had an issue and this is unlikely to cause an issue.

As we use hex shaped cores this is much less likely than on a round core. I've personally never heard of any of our strings slipping, even under abuse.

    Hey Adam..

We're used to Andy being the rep...is he still with D'Addario?

I assumed this responsibility about 12 months or so ago (I did post about it somewhere...).
Andy recently left the company, so unfortunately you all have to deal with me hah!

Although they are probably a smaller limited market will you ever produce double ball end bass strings?

Oops, just checked your product site and found some!!! Are these available in the U.K.??

    Hi man,
Yes we do make them (as you discovered) and yes they should be available in the UK.

We do offer 4 or 5 different SKUs (from the top of my head) in the XL Nickel-Plated Steel range. We usually carry a small number in the warehouse so they will definitely be available to order from dealers :)

I don't think he meant that they are all bass strings. You probably wouldn't get much further than Leeds with all those little guitar strings included!

Haha. Yes, 800,000 strings, NOT bass strings.
I'm not sure of the precise breakdown...hmm...

    800,000 per day?

    :-o

I've just restrung my P with some of your nice rounds, like what I always do where rounds are concerned. They're lovely.

    Mind-boggling number!

At last count we have over 120 distributors in 101 countries, that's a lot of orders to fill. Glad you like them.

  14. Awww shucks.

Thanks for all the positive feedback.

Seriously though, we make over 800,000 strings per day and faults are very few and far between, but it is important we put it right if it does go wrong.

Thanks for the love guys, and having us as part of this great community!

    As usual I'll link http://www.stringtensionpro.com/

A great resource and I use it for most queries like this and then tailor it to the individuals needs.

Using something like 50, 70, 85, 105 in standard tuning as a reference set. To get somewhere close to that kind of tension in your tuning you would need to go for 145, 100, 85, 58.

Then you can tweak from there. I'd probably go 145, 100, 85, 60

Using a 115 at low B would be probably about 40 per cent drop in tension over using a 105 in standard E, so it is definitely understandable that you feel you need more tension.

    Adam.
