Wonderful Overwater handmade Jazz Bass. It is the signature Scott Devine model. I guess you know Scott's education work but if not there are loads of his videos on Youtube.

Recently purchased from Jon, Wilco 10,  on this website but, as you can probably tell by my sign in I’m a massive fan of Flea of RHCP and have been lucky to acquire a Flea Modulous Bass so unfortunately the wife’s rules of only one bass at a time apply hence a very very reluctant sale of this wonderful bass.

So the bass is pretty unique. Scott wanted a Jazz that he could play really fast when required. That mean't a 33" scale and a 16.5mm string spacing. 

 

Scott has fairly large hands, I have pretty short fingers and have used full scale 34" basses and shorter 30" and 32" scales. The full scale ones are fine, but sometimes a stretch, the short scale ones are easier to play but don't feel quit right to me. This 33" combined with the narrower string spacing is perfect. Indeed it is the string spacing more than the scale that makes all the difference.

 

In case don't know Overwater they were established in 1979 in Denmark Street by Chris May who is still at the helm. They became the go to builder for the theatre players in the west end due to the great electronics and wonderful build quality. Since then they have grown to supply all genres of players. The guitar is an absolute pleasure to play, currently set up fairly low. 

 

The electronics are the classic twin jazz pickups with a phantom 2nd winding to cancel noise. With a John East designed flat response buffer pre-amp to purely replace any signal lost via the guitar lead to the amp input. Swamp Ash body, Marple neck. Single bridge pieces and Hipshot ultra light turners. It is also lovely looking with a satin natural finish with black hardware.

 

This guitar is from 2015 and is in new condition. Used for home practice only never gigged. I can't see a single blemish apart from the usual swirls on the scratchplate. The case is superb quality and has a single small ding in it.

 

It comes complete with an Overwater hard case, an almost new set of flatwound Chromes plus a set of roundwounds in the case. All original paperwork including certificate, and set up Allen keys.

I dont have a set of scales to give an accurate weight but it’s a tad lighter than my new Scott Devine j bass

As is normal with these early overwater j series basses there is no serial number located on the bass. I contacted Chris May at Overwater and he has been very very helpful and has provided a detailed letter of providence, specification and history of the bass of which I have a hard certificate copy and also a pdf file. As I am unable to work out how to upload a pdf file to this listing, I will gladly forward you a copy via email if you wish to read it and also a hard copy will be supplied with the bass.

Please note that I purchased bass directly from a professional bass player and Overwater endorsee who purchased it from new. It had-only ever been used for studio sessions, recording with some very famous artists including Brian Adams, Amy Winehouse and American X factor and again to confirm is in mint condition and very well looked after. Again this is confirmed on the letter of providence supplied by Chris May.

Chris May at Overwater has also stated that you are more than welcome to contact him directly if you have any questions relating to the bass

Hi all

im looking for a new home practice amp and have noticed the tcbg250 112 at a great price of £226 but as space is a bit of an issue the mark bass cmd 101 looks like it’s in the frame as well but at £399.

Any thoughts, I’m playing an Overwater active jazz whilst the Tc amps give your more options ie tone print the mark bass kit , looking at the reviews, gives a better quality sound 

Any advice will be much apreciated

Only used on three gigs.  Only had this for about 8 months from new. Brought it Aug 17. It currently lives  untouched in a hard case.

Cost just over £2,500.00.

 

Nice and comfortable. Sounds good. Plays good. You can set the action however you like. High or low, the bass will do it no problem. It is after all a new Overwater !!(I have it reasonably low at the moment.)

 

I upgraded the bridge and pick ups from the original Overwater parts as I wanted a bit more “punch” (which it does) but you can always re-install these if you wish. (These parts are included in the sale).

I'm based on the south coast near Brighton so you're welcome to get in touch and come and try it. It’s a good straight forward no nonsense passive Jazz bass. Intonates all the way up the neck with no buzzes or dead notes. (unless you want that by lowering the action as far as you can!!)  You can easily add a John East Circuit or similar if that’s your thing.

 No case with this (I didn’t need one for it when I bought it hence no case) so buyer will need to come to an arrangement with me regarding shipping. I can loan a case for shipping on the basis buyer pays for it and I refund that amount once the hard case is returned or buyer sends me a hard case to send it in.

I had it re strung by John Shuker last month from low E to top C and set up with a new nut being fitted to accommodate the new stringing plus new strings. The original  nut B to E is included if you ever wished to revert back to the standard 5 stringing.
