Yeah I'm.wondering that. I've also had it at a few practices since and I wasn't happy. At the same time I may be clouded by that gig. It also may be the cabs. I've only ran it at 8 ohms and only with firstly a sub standard 1x15 and now a better quality 2x10. I've heard ampeg cabs make a difference has anyone else noticed this? Also would you say 350 class D watts is suitable for a loudish rock band in small/eventually medium gig scenarios?

I've been playing bass a long long time and I can say this, there is no one setting for every gig, acoustics differ big time and so does the settings on your amp.

The Ampeg 350 just like any other amp will only deliver its full rated power into 4 ohms. So hooking it up to an 8 ohm cab will only deliver maybe half that power.

I use one 15inch 4 ohm speaker cab and I can tell you, if you have the gain set up right on your amp, IT'S LOUD !

  2. I just purchased my first Ampeg, a PF350 last month and thanks to Bassadder27, I found the date of manufacture to be this year 2022.

I use it with a Trace Elliot cab that has a new 15inch 4 ohm Celestion speaker, so getting the full wattage and I must say, the sound is brilliant and loving it.

Funny thing, I use a Yamaha BB734b that I got a few years back, so keeping it all in the Yamaha family lol lol.

Hope I qualify for membership !

  3. If you have  a TC Electronics BQ250 with a reversed active/passive switch and overloading the front end. Well after a long time I finally found a cure !
First of, this doesn't fix the switch problem but it sorts out the front end gain overload.

This is the opposite to what TC will tell you to do, first turn the MASTER down then turn the GAIN up to 5 o'clock, turn your bass up, this will be loud,  you now will see the red LED come on to say it's clipping, now, turn up the MASTER till the LED goes out, that should be around 9 o'clock, BINGO it works.
So apart from the reversed switch, there is something wrong with the way it was wired inside !
Hope this helps for you, as I was about to file this amp under B for BIN.

This is what I did to my Trace........ I blanked off where the amp would have been and I now use a TC Electronics BQ250

Mind you I still have the original trace amp if I ever decide to sell.

I have a bh250 too and started out using an old laptop bag. Then I was given a Targus laptop backpack...a game changer!

It has so many places to stow away leads, amp, screwdrivers, straps, nail clippers, bananas, marker pens, a towel, etc... I can hardly lift it now but it's perfect for gigging.

Btw, I'm sure other laptop backpacks are available but I love my Targus 😊

Thanks for the info, I'll have a look at the Targus.  cheers

  6. A great amp and it looks like the AH200s, regarding the hum, all amps of a certain age will start to hum, check the capacitors in the power supply, if they look swollen, replace with new ones, I would change them anyway regardless !

I'm kinda intrigued that a BB 1024 got snapped up within 24 hours of being listed.

OK let's maybe clarify that - given what a big fan of these basses I am, that in itself doesn't surprise me! What I'm more surprised at is that it got snapped up ahead of a more recent build vgc 734A, listed by one of our thread regulars, which does pretty much everything the 1024 does and then some with its active circuit, particularly as there was just £100 between them.

Put it down to colour finish preference? Or are BBs "famous for" being passive basses and active capabilities, where present, ignored?

  8.  I had to smile at the first and last photos, brilliant.  I've used Trace Elliot since mid 80's and never had any problem, just  great amps.

I'm thinking of downsizing and only play small pubs an clubs now, so the wee Elf might just do the job for me.

  9. most 5 sting basses are 18, but Music man use 17.5 , I'm told they do have a model at 18.

I sold my Ray 5,  I just couldn't get used to it, been playing 4 strings a long long time  lol, it's amazing what a few mm can do.
