Cheers for the feedback guys and I'll see if I can get across to Westside at the weekend (@LoneFurrow - did you manage to pop in and are they still stocking?)

I did, and it was pretty disappointing from a bass point of view, to be honest. They had one Schecter Omen 4 (£449), and a JB63 Lefty (£1,999). That's it. A nice Mesa D800+ head that caught my eye though :-)

They can get pretty much anything in that you want - up to ~ £500 without a deposit, but thereafter they'd prefer a deposit.

Hope that helps.

Ah, I think that might be "Westside" or something similar, a couple of shops along from Wunjo. They're the only shop on Denmark Street who stock pedaltrain and MXR as well I believe.

You're quite right - Westside Distribution. They're the UK distributor for Schecter, Martin, MXR and Mesa Boogie, amongst others. They have masses of Martin acoustics and a fair selection of Schecter guitars. I haven't checked recently to see what they have in the way of basses. I'll be passing by Denmark St this afternoon though - can take a look and report back this evening.

3. It's a reasonable point. As I have one, I guess I should attempt to make a case for the defence :-) The p/u cover doesn't look quite as starkly white in reality as it does in the pics. It kind of matches the binding on the fretboard too.

Hmm... thinking this is a pretty feeble case...

As for the Double Four, I was able to play with it at length in store so knew it sounded great before buying. Handles the low B string with a nicer, fuller tone than some 10 inch combos I've played through. Although it does so at lower volume. At max volume it's loud enough to jam with comfortably at home with an acoustic guitar or two but it's definitely not a gigging amp. That's just not what it's designed for. But what it does, it does really well. I've found that when playing music through the Aux input you can really crank the volume to a level much higher than the max level that the bass input channel allows. This will double as a really nice party speaker. Not that I have parties of course ;)

Sounds great, thanks. Not sure about parties though. Horribly over-rated, imho. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Big plus 1 for Bass Direct.

Double 4s are ace too. It'll handle that low B comfortably.

Sorry, I seem to have hijacked the thread a little. Thanks for the comments about the Double Four, I've been pondering one for a little while.

Thanks for posting the details and extra pictures.

The bass really looks brilliant.
Buttercream, roasted maple and red tort it a killer combo :)

I'm a massive sucker for a tort pickguard. You can put it on pretty much anything and I'll be drawn to it :-)

Great pics! Could you possibly add one of the back of the body?

Done - album updated with more pics - https://imgur.com/a/1sVFX

After further study last night, I can see there is a subtle amount of grain visible, but it's almost impossible to pull out in photos.

Geeky details...

Nut width: 45.23mm
Depth at 1st fret: 21.50mm
Depth at 12th fret: 25.02mm
String spacing: 18mm
Weight: 4.460kg / 9lb 13.3oz

I'm only aware of one for sale at the moment - The Bass Gallery in Camden have a maple 'board version, although it's not on their website. It was certainly in stock when I was in the shop on Tuesday this week. I'm sure there are others around, but couldn't hazard a guess where!

Hope that helps.

7. I've only tried a couple of SR5s besides the 30th Anniversary model. I felt the standard SR5 had a little more of a typical MM V profile. The 30th Anniversary seems closer to a C profile, which I prefer. I can measure the nut width / fret depths on mine this evening, if that helps.

They are around £1000 cheaper in the US compared to UK prices

would love to try one out though
By the time you've paid shipping, duty and VAT, I suspect the price is around £300 less for a new one, at least based on current exchange rates.

Interesting difference in weights - MM claims 10lbs on their website. Mine (rosewood 'board) is 9lb 13oz. The neck is amazing!
