  1. Thanks for all your replies. I think it will be a while before I go gigging, but in any case, I found a 2nd hand Orange Crush 50 BXT. I've nothing to compare it with, but so far, it seems to do the job. It's got a quarter inch headphone jack which will be interesting to try once I've found an adapter. Cheers
  2. Thank you for the feedback. In the end I bought the Aerodyne, partly because it was 2/3 the cost of a new American Professional (I do take the point about the Standard), but also because the neck felt smaller in my hand - which is important for me because I have a touch of carpal tunnel syndrome. So far, very pleased, and as a surprise by-product which I hadn't anticipated, I've started to get into funk!
  3. I'm new to Basschat and, returning to the bass after a 40 year gap (I had an SG copy I played when I was at school), I've asked for some help choosing an instrument on another board. I'll also need an amp/speaker for use in my front room, something which I will be able to get a nice tone from at low-ish volume, so I'll be very grateful for any suggestions. Thanks in advance!
  4. I've always wanted a Fender and, returning to the bass after a 40 year gap (I had an SG copy I played when I was at school), I've narrowed my choice (for a new rather than 2nd hand) down to an Aerodyne Jazz or a American Professional Jazz. I've tried both, in two shops, but - might be something to do with my hearing and my declining years - I am finding it hard to figure which will be best for me. I'll be playing mainly at home for my own pleasure, although I get together a couple of times a month with some friends and jam. I bring along either my accoustic or electric and am looking forward to coming with a bass. I like blues/rock and a bit of country and americana, and, as much of my playing will be in the front room of a terraced house, it will be important to get good tone at low volumes. Your advice and suggestions will be much appreciated - thanks!
  5. Hi, I signed up on Basschat at the Bass Guitar show at Olympia in London last week. I used to play bass in a band in my school days but that was 40 years ago (I hardly believe it myself!) and now something moves me to start again. I play accoustic and electric guitar, mainly for myself, at home, accompanying blues/blues-rock kinda stuff, but also get together a couple of times a month with a bunch of friends and jam, mainly folk and americana. I'll be very grateful for some advice on what to buy (the SG copy I had at school is long gone). I don't want to break the forum rules, so I'll post on the Bass Guitars and the Amps and Cabs boards. Looking forward to spending some time and learning on this forum, and thanks in advance
