1. Yeah, bummer. Never mind, I was so chuffed with the sound of the three strings that I did fit, I've just ordered up a new set They really do sound close to that deep, warm acoustic double bass. A bit tricky to play mind!
2. Update - I figured it out. It's down to the different headstock shapes. I must've trimmed the G string for the 2 x 2 Ibanez tuners. Squier and Fender have the all the tuners on one side so the G string need to be longer. Doh.
3. @Hobbayneit's long scale strings I'm using. Just puzzled how they managed to fit my 34" scale Ibanez but too short for my 34" scale Squier. Also, I want to be sure that if I buy new replacements, they'll fit. By the way, the three strings I've managed to fit to the Squier sound fantastic...
4. Hi all. I just tried fitting a set of Rotosound tru-bass nylon strings (long scale) to my Squier Fretless Jazz bass and I was disappointed to discover that the G string is too short. The length of the 'sounding' part is ok, the same as the other three strings, but the 'silk' part is too short - it doesn't even reach the tuning nut. Same with a set of Rotosound Jazz 77 flatwounds - the 'G' is too short. I should add that both of these sets were previously fitted to an Ibanez GSR200, but I have no recollection of trimming the strings. Do I need extra long scale? Does the Ibanez have a shorter neck (although the manufacturers' specs both say 34")? Sincerely, Perplexed of Edinburgh.
5. Hi all. I have just started reading 'The Art of Walking Bass' by Bob Magnusson. There's a ton of info in there, but I'm puzzled by one of the concepts that he introduces early on - 'sequences' (p 13). He states that 'making a sequence from the three tones of a triad is a great way to create melodic interest...' but he doesn't (as far as I can see) actually provide a full definition. It appears simply to be a rough shape that is repeated, but the examples he gives are a mix of thirds and fourths, so not a specific interval. Can anybody nail this for me? Bob are you out there?!
6. Thanks for all the responses folks. First off, I love the bass - totally playable, powerful sound, and a familiar feel as my previous bass was an Ibanez GSR200 with typical Ibanez narrow neck. I tried the Fender Precision and although I liked the sound I couldn't get the hang of the neck profile at all. The bass is definitely the new Pro model, the case looks like the new model, so as far as the Pass Cert is concerned, I'll stick it back in the case and get on with playing Cheers, BrB.
7. The Pass Certificate is date-stamped, definitely 2015. However the Assembly / Tune / Test card is hand-written, with no date on it. Strictly speaking there's nothing to associate the Pass Cert with the guitar, it was just in the case with the tools and documentation.
8. Hi all. I'm new to this so apologies if this is an old topic, but I just purchased a new Fender American Pro Jazz bass but the enclosed Pass Certificate is dated 2015-12-08. The 'build certificate' however, is marked AM PRO JAZZ BASS RW 3TS and as far as I'm aware, the 'PRO' designation was only introduced this year. So any idea why the Pass Cert is dated 2015? Thanks.
9.
I have a SR750 and it is a cracking bass. Cost me £735 ish. Better than any Fender I have played. Mine has Norstrand designed pickups and they are fantastic so I imagine the Norstrand made ones on the SR1300 will be better. But it`s true about the 2nd hand value of Ibbys. Have you had a look at Cort basses? They manufacture most of the Ibanez basses and are very good value.
I hadn't considered Cort at all, but that A4ULTRA at Richard Guitars looks a stunner - the black hardware is classy. Thanks.
10. Thanks for the responses - I hadn't considered second-hand.

12. I'm looking to upgrade from my Ibanez GSR200 and have a grand to spend. For me that's a big investment so I want a quality bass that will last, and my initial thoughts were the Musicman Sterling Ray 34: http://www.guitargui...=11080915385288 or the Fender American Standard Jazz: http://www.guitargui...=12031011002558 but I found these heavy and bulky compared with what I'm used to playing and wondered if the Ibanez SR1300 Premium: http://www.guitargui...151218291644002 would be similar in build quality - it certainly felt more comfortable to play. Or would I be paying for a lot of fancy electronics? Informed opinions welcome Thanks
