1. Just a heads-up for any interested basschatters - 1 hr 30 mins left to go on my JV, currently at £395, so it's already heading out of my door...
 2.
No, it's a maple neck and white scratchplate. Get's confusing, doesn't it? It's here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=33591 The photo shows the knobs quite clearly.
Yes - VERY! Your bass is just stunning - Congrats! Love the 2TS finish. The knobs look to be the same as the ones on my bass.
 3.
If it didn't then - it probably has by now...
I'm unlikely to ever see one, let alone play one though...
 4.
Oh now this makes me wornder if a real Fender 57 had rounded knobbies ....
If it didn't then - it probably has by now...
 5.
I've had a 1982 '57 JV from new and the knobs are rounded, not flat. For what it's worth.
Thanks Stevie - does your bass have a RW board & tort guard?
 6.
No, it was the standard 57, white (single ply pickguard) and maple board. Quite probably the best bass I've ever owned and it was a snip at £202 back in 1982. Regarding the knobs, they weren't 'fully' rounded - just not the flat tops like are on my MIA 2004 P bass. Semirounded?
Thanks. All this talk about knobs is getting a bit much for me... Semi-rounded... £202 - what would 27 years of inflation + 27 years of Mojo bring that to today I wonder?
 7.
Looks all original to me Paul. Mine was bought from new in 2TS - the silver metal knobs were standard. Mine were also rounded - not flat tops.
Did yours have a RW board & Tort guard?
 8.
[SET Anorak ON] AFAIK yours is a '62 stylee 'cos it's got a rosewood board and a tortie plate. Real and re-issue 62 P basses had flat tops. Same as the Telecaster (guitar) knobs. Parts bin economies I guess. As you mentioned in your eBay description the previous owner may have changed the pots to go with the EMG's and thus the knobs too. It's probably a splined shaft/solid shaft thing .. [SET Anorak OFF]
Your donning of the anorak is much appreciated! I just checked - the pots have solid shafts - I'm still none the wiser tho...
 9.
No your knobs should be flat tops not domed.
Simon - Confusingly, there appear to be two different types of knob fitted to the 57's featured on the 21frets.com JV Precision page - both flat-topped and rounded. The ones fitted to my bass are the rounded type, and were on there when I bought it. Unfortunately, I can't be any more certain of their provenance than that, so I really shouldn't speculate further. It's a great bass that I hope will go to a player who enjoys playing it.
 10.
Lots of pics & info about JVs here: http://www.21frets.com/ It should be possible to work out what's original & what's not from the pics on the site. Lovely looking bass anyway. Jon.
Cheers Jon - it plays as good as i looks (but I would say that!) There's a photo of a 57 in Sunburst on that site. The knobs are identical to the ones on my bass. It could be that they are the original knobs after all...
 11.
BTW Paul, the control knobs look the same as the ones that were on my old 57 reiss JV Precision (Large Fender/Small Squier on headstock).
Mart - thanks for the info. Was your bass modified in any way? The previous owner of my bass stated that it is a 57. It could be that they are the original knobs after all...
 12. Hi all, I'm the seller of this bass, so if anyone has any questions I'll be happy to answer them. I've been a member here for a little while, but rarely visit. The reason for my very recent registration on Ebay is that I just haven't bothered before. Anything that I have bought or sold in the past has been through family or friends. I have a few things I want to sell on at the mo, so rather than burden them with it all I have registered myself. I can very well understand somebodies reluctance to bid on the bass for that reason. Good to speak with you Simon (Old Git) earlier - hope to see you at The Claude in March. All the best, Paul
