The eagerly (I hope) anticipated update of Tomreadbass Transcriptions. The big update I have been promising.
Too big actually, in that once I had completed my jobsheet of transcriptions and arrangements, adding them to the website then took me nearly another week!
So what's new? Well as usual, the additions have come about as a result of one of two things; either a customer has ordered a bass transcription and taken up the half-price deal (which means it gets shared on the website for everyone else's benefit), or I've written a bass part for myself (or a band arrangement) for a gig. Lots of orders have been fulfilled recently, and as I'm currently gigging full-time on a cruise ship (MV Spirit of Adventure), there's quite a lot resulting from that too!
OK, here goes - you'll see I've kept myself busy in my cabin!

A couple of new bass charts transcribed in the past few days, and uploaded to http://tomreadbass.co.uk just now as we sail westwards through the English Channel. This takes us to 880 on the site. Still the biggest, and still completely free.Dancing Queen - Abba: I kept coming across bass parts for this that were nearly right but not quite right, and I found myself making the corrections "on the fly" while sight-reading on stage! Now I've said that, it's practically guaranteed that someone will find, and gleefully point out an error in my part ... oh well...!Don't Know Why - Norah Jones: A very simple and easy bass part, but I was only given a chord chart for it, and wanted to get the feel spot on - hence the transcription!Inevitably, more coming in due course from here on the MV Spirit of Adventure!

Four sets - those were the days. We've had plenty of 5, 6 and 7 set days since then. And 7 days a week - no day off!
In between, I'm still knocking out the charts for the site:
I have new bass transcriptions for you!Two of these result from orders from http://tomreadbass.co.uk where the customer has agreed to share the finished chart freely via the website in return for a 50% reduction in the price paid. The other two have been transcribed for the band sets on the cruise ship gig I'm currently working on.The "headline" of these is undoubtedly the transcription of the full 8+ minutes of virtuoso double bassist Esperanza Spalding's "Cuerpo y Alma". This is a complete transcription - no repeats, signs or coda - every note, every variation, main groove, improvisations and the bass solo! Newly added today are: Tell Me A Bedtime Story - Herbie Hancock, featuring the virtuouso upright bass playing of Buster Williams. This has been charted in full, with all the variations of each repeat.
Shake - Ian Moss. The Australian rock-blues musician's take on the Sam Cooke song.
Double Shot Of My Baby's Love - Swingin' Medallions. The only chart success for the 60s South Carolina band. Jimmy Perkins on bass.
3rd Stone - Gary Gould. Another original bass-featured composition from the US bassist, in a fusion jazz-rock style.
All of these have resulted from customers ordering transcriptions and opting for the half-price option, which means their finished chart gets added to the site for everyone else to access for free. The site now has 848 free bass transcriptions and remains the biggest free online resource in the world - to my knowledge anyway!
The site grows every time I have to learn new songs for a gig, or when a customer orders a transcription and agrees for it to go on the site. There's not exactly any gigs right now, so the site grows just from the incoming transcription requests.
It has become a annual tradition for me to add a bass transcription of a Christmas song on Christmas Day. Wonder what it will be this year? Any suggestions?

Normally, the bass transcription library grows when I've got dep gigs with new bands and need to learn new bass parts quickly! Obviously, I've not any any gigs during Covid, and no prospect of any for a while yet. It has become a Christmas tradition here at http://tomreadbass.co.uk to transcribe a bassline from a classic Christmas tune and add it to the free library on the website.
This year, it is Greg Lake's 1975 anthem "I Believe In Father Christmas", an easy and simple bassline, but with the important nuances (like when it uses the 6th or the major 7th beneath the root) all charted out accurately.
