I`ve only played two, but thought they were great. Played well, sounded superb - wasn`t in a band setting so can`t say how they sat in the mix, but going through a repertoire by The Jam on a Rickenbacker just felt and sounded right. I agree about the current CEO and his Ricktroopers, not doing much to endear the brand imo.

Bruce Foxtons Ricky was a copy. He did most of The Jam stuff on a Precision, which he still does.

  2. 1st reply says it all really. I use a QSC PLX2402 which is class H. Plenty of power, not too heavy. Just check that you pre-amp has enough output to drive your power amp, which my SRW Grand Prix does with no problem in this set up.

  3. For a bit of old school optical compression, I can recommend the SGFX Imperial. Can be very fat and adds its own character, a lot like McCartneys sound on Taxman

Yes. Like I said, not a dreadful song but I've played it for years and am utterly sick of it. There are so many other SRV songs that are better as well.

I've yet to play with a drummer outside of Texas that can nail it. Most bass players play it wrong as well

  5. Once had a singer start singing the wrong song. The crazy thing was that such was his mental block, he knew he was wrong but couldn't stop - he managed most of the first verse before the rest of us stopped playing.

A 200w tube head would be the size of a standard big 'ol tube amp, it's the power tubes that restrict the size capabilities. Why do you think people went solid state?
As it is a 150w tube amp is massive and heavy, adding another 50w in tube terms would make it even bigger and heavier.

Thats what I was suggesting (albeit in response to a micro amp comment). Without igniting a valve vs solid state debate, given the quality and tone of DHA pre amps, I for one would go for a good all valve head from him.

Speaking of mini...what chance any manufacturer producing a 200W+ pedal board power amp? Something this sized, but geared to bass players:

I suspect this would create a storm!

Or a 200w all tube head??!!
