  1. I bought this beautiful instrument last year for a project that has managed just two gigs in 18 months. I recently joined a new band and now need a different coloured bass.

    Before I bought it, I tried out the Squier and US versions, and this one has by far the most playable, modern-feeling neck. It weighs 3.8kg / 8.4lb.

    It’s a joy to play, and the pickup is thunderous.

    I’ve swapped in the Retrovibe 4-brass-saddle dual-entry bridge for easier intonation (the original will be included).

    There’s a small dink by the bridge (pictured). Otherwise, there are no marks.

    It’s got new Newtone Platinum strings, and comes with a Fender gigbag.

    However.

    While it’s perfectly playable with a low action, the truss rod won’t tighten any further. So it’s fine with low tension strings, but would struggle with thicker gauges. That’s why I’m selling so cheap.

  2. 4 hours ago, Stub Mandrel said:

    I have Amazon Prime and I could use Amazon Prime Music for learning songs - it's noticeably higher quality than youtube and no ads 🙂

    But, I can't get autoplay to switch off.

    Help chat has told me to download the PC app. more effin' bloat...

    The app finally loads, then tells me it is out of date and to update it... but doesn't give me a clear route to update.

    There is no autoplay off under settings, despite what the chat are telling me.

    They now tell me to download the smartphone app.

    No doubt that hasn't got the autoplay off setting either, and anyway would that switch it off on another device?

    The iPhone app allows autoplay to turned off:

  3. Lightweight 115 cab; originally part of a two-piece combo, but without the amp now.

    It’s not in pristine condition, so it was excellent for my pub band (now folded).

    17kg - you can carry it with one hand.

    500w @ 4ohms.

    Tilts back.

    15” neodymium speaker.

    Always-on tweeter.

    Mainland UK delivery £20

  4. Thanks Phill

    It seems that, while threads on here about basses and amps can give you a pretty good idea of what difference each can make, questions about speakers & cabs lead to Economist Syndrome (If you put 10 economists in a room, you’ll get 11 opinions…). Presumably this is because the setups and playing situations have too many variables.

    The singer is sourcing a mixer. She already has a Soundcraft Signature 16, but says she’s looking for something better. I think that means we’re ok for IEMs

  5. I recently joined a newly-formed band (female vocals; 2 guitars; bass & drums), planning to play pubs and social clubs etc

    First gig is mid-June.

    We want to go through the desk so we can IEM.

    The guitarist just bought a pair of Yamaha DXR15s.

    If the speakers go on poles, will I (and drummer) need a sub on the floor?

    If so, would I get away with a 15” powered sub, or does it need to be 18” because the tops are 15”?

    (Else would it be an option to have one DXR speaker on a pole and the other on the floor, or is that just silly?!)

    Thanks

  6. I’m happy to play free for friends, but for “commercial” gigs would expect something, even if it’s only £25.

    This is 100% down to the need to feed my GAS habit - all the cash goes into my Bass Savings account.

    In my case, charging a fee is entirely the fault of BassChat. 😉

  7. Alder body with stunning figured maple top;

    16” radius, slender, one-piece rock maple neck with rosewood board;

    38mm micarta nut;

    Locking, top-loading bridge with 17mm string spacing;

    EMG HZ pickups;

    Preamp is now a Glockenklang 2-band (V-Bl-Tr-B) with push/pull passive switch and passive tone control;

    Weighs 9.1lb: nicely balanced and relatively light for a jazz bass (my wife has been playing it exclusively for the past year)

    It’s got a couple of small dings that haven’t broken the lacquer, and a graze near the output jack;

    I’m selling cheap because the previous owner drilled 3 small holes near the bridge pickup - experimenting with thumb rests apparently. You could probably add a thumb rest to cover the holes, but I’ve just filled them.

    Happy to meet up (within reason) or can post insured to UK mainland for £35.

  8. If I gig, it’s normally in pubs with a loud drummer and very loud guitarist.

    I’ve been offered a TC Electronic BG 250w 1x15 combo (“light and super powerful”).
    I also have a 600w Behringer 112 powered PA speaker.

    While the combo seems quite loud, I can imagine that in some venues I might need more “breadth” as opposed to straightforward “volume” in order to have sufficient impact vs drums/guitar.

    So.

    Can I take a DI feed from the combo into the PA speaker and therefore have a 115 and 112 running side by side?
    e.g.  if I feel the combo is a bit lost in the room, I can add the PA speaker to the combo to widen the range and move more air overall?

    (And will the DI out use the preamp from the bass amp, so the PA speaker is voiced more for a bass?)

  9. Popped up in my Facebook feed:

    🚨 Missing bass!! Please share this post!🚨 Hi all. My bass was taken between Sunday and Tuesday from the Guildhall School of Music. Please keep an eye out for it. Please check your local pawn shops, music shops etc and contact me directly if you see it. It’s a unique custom made 5-string bass with through-neck construction. There’s only one of these in the world so it’s pretty distinctive! It was in a tweed Ibanez powerpad padded gig back (pictured). Thanks

  10. +1 for powered speaker (with pre-amp). I’ve got a 600w Behringer that weighs about 14kgs and cost just over £150 (so under $200?)

    I also have a 500w TC Electronic mini head (bought new for the warranty; about £250) and a 500w Ibanez cab (16kg, £150 used, can be carried in one hand).

  11. I’ve just had a MIJ 51 p bass delivered from Fenderfever today.

    I had some trepidation because £1k is a lot of money for me, and this thread was the only store review I could find.

    Two days after I paid, I had a duplicate deduction appear on my credit card app. It disappeared next day, so I think it’s just a Mastercard thing.

    But all doubts have now dissipated - fast delivery and bass is exactly as described.

    I’m very happy I shopped there!

  12. Alex is - quite simply - a very pleasant chap!

    He just bought an Hpf pedal from me. When I found he lived nearby, and I had a rehearsal in Stevenage that week, he was more than happy to meet up, even though it inconvenienced him a lot more than me.

  13. I treated myself to a new bass - that is far better than my playing deserves - in December: it’s taking a bit of getting used to, but the more I play, the more I find I get on with it.

    It went to luthier to have an active/passive switch fitted, and I found I was pining after it every day.

    Now it’s back, I play every day. I find it very satisfying.

    (And I feel like I’m justifying the expense - can’t wait for this year’s first gig next month!)
