I've mixed lots of function bands as part of their audition process for one of the largest booking agents in the country. Probably more than 70% were drums, bass, guitar (sometimes two) and some sort of sequence track usually on a lap top with the drummer playing to a click. For some it worked really well, others sounded flat.. Seems very popular on the 'modern pop / classic covers' function type group scene.

Yes I see these requests from agents a lot. They always are asking for 'High Tech' duo's, trio's which always makes me smile.

  2. Hey all...

Just wanted to share a new recording of my band The Signatures Northern Soul Band.

The Audio is one take (as you will hear ahem.... ) the video is made of three takes (not quite synced yet) but you get the idea.

Anyway using my Sire V5 through a GK MB500 and Aggie DB212 (chocolate as that helps the sound )

Let me know what you think....

I've come to the conclusion that they don't make watts like they used to back in the good old days. When I started in bands in 1968, they were proper watts they were.
Watt (see what I did there) you find these days, in order to play the 'marketing game', many manufacturers plaster Peak Power or PMP on their advertising as everyone does it... it's become the norm. I work for a manufacturer that produces PA products. Manufacture in the US where a lot of this goes on and in Europe where they are more realistic about true RMS or more importantly SPL of a product.

I'd never purchase a product on the strength of RMS as its pretty useless.... try the product for yourself, get clued up on what the products are actually capable of.

Thanks for the replies. Not sure what to look for so Ive took it back to PMT and reluctantly agreed to pay for repair as its just out of the 3 month used warranrty terms. My local repair shop who i tried first wont touch class D stuff apparently.

    Hi

Shame its used.... you get 3 year warranty on new EV kit.

    no problem, happy to help!

...now can anyone help me?!! :)

I figured it was standard practise for most people to monitor inputs on their DAW these days (as opposed to an analogue desk), so you must have near 0 latency? If so maybe you keep your plug-ins down to the very basics during the tracking stages? Or maybe your computers are far better than mine?
Seen a lot of people with multiple plug ins per channel..... if you have a lot of the same types of signals using the same effects create a bus (backing vox for example) where you can use less effects for more tracks. If you do this already ignore me ;o)

I tried to convince the guys in the band to try the BF PA system when we were looking at a new PA. Unfortunately, being relatively unknown outside the bass-playing community & the "homemade" look meant the rest of the band wouldn't entertain spending £4K on the BF system, trial or no trial. We ended up going for the QSC KW112 tops & subs in the end.

Plus you have residual value to consider if the 'band' are buying.

This is the one i have. The good thing about his is the pressure is adjustable at each end so you can have it loose or tight.

Cheers for that.... looks much better. I had the problem that the Funp wouldnt fit on my status but this one sure does......

Did you buy direct from this site?

I havent got one, but i'm intrigued.
You think it's worth spending the money over just sticking some foam under the bridge?
Well you could I guess.... but I like the fact you can just pull it out/push it on quickly to remove it between songs

  13. Hi All

I purchased one of these odd contraptions to fit on my Sire V7....

Just wondered if anyone else here is using one at all.... So far it's good, but I;ve found that I have to move it a bout a fair bit to get an even 'fump' across all strings.

I guess because its a one solution fits all its a good as it gets but I wondered if any of you guys are using one and what your experience has been.
