I'm with you for the type of country you posted. Musicians writing and performing songs. All good.

But I could never get over the feeling that a lot of modern country sounds pretty much the same. And then I watched this, and felt somewhat vindicated. I don't mean to suggest that there are no good country songwriters anymore. There are. Some very good ones. Just tough to wade through the drivel to get to it.

Yes a lot of it is over produced, cliched rubbish, but as you say there is wheat amongst the chaff. If you’re not already familiar with the likes of Tyler Childers, Stirgil Simpson, Benjamin Tod, Mary Bragg or Jade Jackson I’d recommend searching them out.

    Ha ha...

    Great idea...(thanks).

The trickiest situation was when I have bought  new guitars, even though I give the courier instructions to deposit  said item in the garage, there was the bigger problem of getting shot of all the cardboard packaging undetected. Especially as the axe in question has been a big hollow body!

I’ve had that issue too. Luckily I live very close to a cardboard recycling centre so any boxes and packaging get swiftly taken down there before Mrs Bass gets back from work.

Although to be fair, I’ve just bought her a Peloton bike so I need to offset that with something nice and shiny for me 😉

  3. My wife doesn’t care what I buy, but my ex did, so if I was planning on smuggling a new purchase into the house I’d always go out with an empty bass case - she assumed it contained a bass and I was off out for a jam or whatever - then the new bass would be stashed safely inside and carried over the threshold when I returned home following my ‘jam’... she was never the wiser 😁

  4. I spent many an hour and several £££s in the Oxford branch on St Clements, two purchases I remember were a Cheetah sampler in 1991 and a ‘57 Japanese Strat in 1994. I also recall seeing the Greenwood brothers from Radiohead in there trying Telecasters circa 1995. It later moved to the Cowley Road (almost next door to the Zodiac / Academy) and was taken over by PMT, where it stayed until fairly recently before moving out to a new shop further out of town.

Using her allegations of abuse at the hands of Ryan Adams is pretty darn low in this context.

If you don't like her music or opinions, fine...but don't try and discredit her by dragging in your opinion of her very serious allegations against him.

Very serious allegations indeed. Allegations in which a thorough FBI investigation found no basis. Pretty low to destroy a much loved artist’s career on unfounded allegations. Without going too off topic, RA is probably a bit of a creep who made some improper suggestions to a young female artist. Hard to defend if so, but he didn’t deserve to have the rug pulled from under his entire career.

Saw UFO for the first time in 1978 at Birmingham Town Hall as a 15 yr old.

It was such an exciting experience, and a benchmark for live gig experiences for years to come. It was the ‘classic’ line up and they were a band right on top of their game.

That they should have achieved more commercial success - and the reasons they didn’t - have been well documented over the years, but them and AC/DC (Bon era) were the only rock bands I knew that my punk mates also loved at the time.

I think a lot of rock fans at the time were somehow suspicious of them - a bit “flash”, a bit “London”, not quite as down and heavy as, say, Sabbath or Purple. But that was part of the attraction for me. They were the first band I saw in the flesh that really looked like rock stars, in a way that Bowie, or the Stones or the Faces did on TV.

And then there was the bass player...
