1. Hi there,
I have a Spector NS2000 Q5 for sale! Its in immaculate condition due to rarely gigging it. Unfortunately, I just dont have any need for a 5 string any more so, in order to fund a new 4 string, she has to go. Price is £375 ovno!

She will come with two sets of EB Regulars 130-45, soft case and strap.

I would very much prefer collection in person as I have heard a lot of scare stories about couriers.. But if you really want it shipped, you will have to organise it yourself. I cant accept liability for damage in transit :(

I will upload pictures ASAP!

2. Hiya,
Im looking for a bass tutor in the west london area (Hammersmith/Fulham/Putney/Shepherds Bush). Im not a complete beginner as I used to be in quite a successful touring band a few years ago but I have recently let life get in the way and havent been picking up the bass as much as I should have been. A new years resolution is to get back on the wagon and improve my skills again.

Im looking to cover theory, harmony, playing over changes, reading etc. I want to feel at home on a jam session!

Can anyone out there help?

I have my own gear and Im happy to travel but I work full time so weekends work best for me.

Hope to hear from you soon!

:)

3. Hi there,
I have been playing bass for around 10 years now and have extensive studio and live experience including national and international tours. I have my own equipment and transport. I am quite heavily involved in the music 'industry' and have made some great friends and colleagues over the years.

My musical background is a little random.. I love music that gets me going. Grew up listening to Zeppelin and a lot of Motown but currently on my ipod: The Police, Rick James, Sikth, Lamb, Pink Floyd, The Clash and The Smiths.. Really digging Royal Blood at the moment as well.

So tell me, what are your goals in the next year and the next 5 years? Whats your practice ethos? Do you guys work full time as well?

Please see the links below for videos from my last band who were a bit more heavy.

4. Hey!
My name is Lizzie and Im a bassist bas(s)ed in west London who is seeking a band for joyful music making and pun creation! Previous experience includes international tours, function bands, hard rock and power-stances. Im at home in sweaty rehearsal rooms and on a bus. Looking for some hard rockin' like-minded new friends to slam out some awesome rock n roll and save me from endless 12-bar blues licks. I have some good industry links and, most importantly, own gear and transport! Its been a while, but I can probably do some backing vocals as well but Im a little rusty!

Hope to hear from you soon
:)

7. Hi there,
I have a couple of old pedals id like to sell/trade.. More likely to trade really.. but moneys always good!

The first is a Barber Electronics Dirty Bomb fuzz pedal. I have used this a few times and to be honest, its not the kind of sound Im really looking for. Im looking for a thicker, creamier fuzz sound (hint hint!!) Immaculate condition as I like to take care of my gear! Comes with original box and a patch cable unless its a swapsies!

Also up for sale is an old skool Boss Flanger. Its got japanese writing on the back. Have checked out what they are going for on ebay so make me an offer again!

Pictures on request! Please p/m me for more details and to ask me any questions!

9.
There are a million exercises that will make a difference and they will all work on some level. In my prime developmental period, my own regime was to play two octave scales in all keys and all modes followed by two octave chord tones up and down the neck in all modes and all keys. Took about an hour a day but I developed a lot of technique that way.

I would really recommend that you learn to read the dots as soon as you can: a teacher is a good idea but F. Simandl's books or Rufus Reid's Evolving Bassist are good books to start with. When you have the rudimentary skills (i.e. you don't need to be able to sight read to do this), you can start transcribing bits of songs you like and to develop a vocabulary of your own. Then your playing will really start to improve.

The very fact that you are even asking this question is indicative of a positive attitude to learning and you should be congratulated for that. The best piece of advice I can give is 'remember that the most difficult thing about finding your true path as a player is the realisation that you are already on it'. Everything of value that you will ever learn will come to you incrementally. There are a couple of things that may come to you as an epiphany but these are very few. Most things come from tedious repetition and, despite your protestations to the contrary, I would argue that just playing through scales at X bpm etc probably is working for you already, just not as quickly as you would like. Most things you learn in the practice room today won't appear in your playing for at least six months!Patience is of considerable value in learning an instrument, alongside the understanding that, if you haven't got that knot of frustration in your stomach as you practice, you probably aren't learning anything of value! :)

You are on a wonderful journey that will last your lifetime. Enjoy.
You, sir, have just made my day!
My problem has always been wanting to run before walking.. I want to be Palladino (or in my case Wilkenfeld..) and I may one day get there, but im just going to have to wood shed it a bit just like everybody else!
I have obtained "New Method For String Bass" Simandl and a few others including "The Cycle of Self Empowerment" Dom Famularo.
Do you think these will help?
Many many thanks! Youve made a bass player more inspired! x

10.
Mike is also the reason I picked up bass, so that is enough to keep him indoors!

Any info would be great - as for his awkward playing in the Apollo in Feb, I think Mike looks fairly awkward when playing anyway - his trademark 'sitting on the bog' stance looks pretty uncomfortable to me but good god can he throw those basslines about. He is definitely my fave 5 string player, his use of the B is just right.

An e-card sound like a cool idea...

Cheers

I couldnt agree more! Whadda guy

Lets sort out an ecard!

11.
A couple of months back I asked Luke the same question, he told me that Mike was in a fairly bad way and was pretty much unable to venture out of his front door or pick up his bass.

Very sad!
This seems to be exactly what Simon said..

I could understand why he couldnt make the tour if its down to a hand injury, but to not be able to leave the house makes it a pretty hardcore hand injury..

Im sure Mike will fill us in in time but still, as he is the guy who inspired me, I want him to be ok!!

12. OK,
This might seem like a really weird question, but what is the best way to learn theory and technique and suchlike?
Im trying to have an ass kicking moment of going back and learning all the stuff i conveniently decided to avoid... such as theory, harmony and technique but I am finding it really hard to get it to sink in..
Now i know that you should spend X amount of time during your regime to dedicate to scales/arpeggios etc but I just dont think I am going about it in the right way. I try to sit there and work through some scales but i end up thinking i know it and move on, but then I end up getting kicked in the ass for it later on! I mean, i know my major scale shapes, but I dont seem to be able to implement them effectively.

Basically, I am asking for some advice on practicing theory/harmony that isnt just playing through scales at X bmp etc as that clearly isnt working for me!

Any advice would be absolutely invaluble!

Yours,
A bassist in dire need!

Lizzie
