  1. Battle of the the bands are allways a bit gimicky in themselves.Personally I'd just treat it as any other gig, enjoy the playing and not worry too much about the outcome as its allways such a mix of styles.Good luck.

  2. Has anyone had hands on experience of either or preferably both of these machines? Trying to decide which one to get. They're both the same price and appear to be of very similar performance. Both get very good reviews but was wondering which is the best.

  3. Hi all,are there any of you who might know what a realistic price might be for an old 1/2" reel to reel machine? Its in fair condition for its age and sounds great.Someone asked me to sell it but I have no idea what its really worth.I've looked on ebay from time to time but prices vary from sod all to ridiculous.I was thinking a reasonable price would be around £250 ish.Any vintage studio boffins know the right answer?

  4. is there any way of intercepting the signal path as it passes from the pre-amp to the power stage?

Sounds like a good place to start, try cleaning all the send and return FX loop jacks, especially the shorting contacts which will require removing the amp from the cab(make sure its unplugged). Also worth cleaning the master vol pot.Sounds unlikely to be the power transistors as they usually go dead short when they blow and then take out the power supply fuses.
If none of these work then best to take it to a proper techie.
    Good luck

  5. Has anyone seen or heard of these before.Thats what I call a big magnet. Was wondering if its of any use in a bass rig for a sub.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3000w-12-Subwoofer-Car-Bass-Sub-Woofer-Speaker-amp-6x9_W0QQitemZ270158371924QQihZ017QQcategoryZ18805QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

  6. Assuming you've got a nice set of strings(EQ wont cure or bring back lost harmonics) I'd set everything flat on the amp and the cab horn control. Then turn the amp up till you've got the right sort of volume you need to be heard when playing with the band. Then use the EQ.What I've found is the EQ requirements change with volume (and the room you're in),so as you play louder you actually need less boost than you do playing at lower levels. This also keeps a tighter sound and stops all the power being guzzled up by over boosting the low end.

  7. When I bought my hartke3500 many years ago from the bass centre I was told it had a lifetime warranty.I take it this not true of their more recent products.Fortunately I've had no problems.£145 sounds a bit steep even if the techie took 2 hours to change it,plus the cost of the replacment part.I'd have a phone round and get some more quotes now you know what the problem is.

  8. Is that the one with four 5" drivers? I was using an old bose 802 pa cab for a while (till I blew it up)which sounded remarkably good for a small cab with eight 5" drivers.I really want to try some of PJB's bigger cabs esp the horn loaded one with 16 drivers-anyone tried it?

  9. Hi all, does anyone know of any good links to advice on routing techniques?I've used most power tools but not routers and dont want to make mistakes(measure twice cut once). In paticular I have to do a neck pocket, pickup and control cavity.I know some of you out there have made some pretty exotic instruments so I'm sure someone must have the answers.
Will post up pics when my new baby's finnished.

  10. Hi I'm currently putting together a 5 string based on a stingray 5 neck. Can anyone tell me if the the string spacing is the same for a stingray as a Jazz bass 5 as I'm in the process of choosing pickups.I've looked at various sites but there seems to be so much choice, though I'm very tempted to get wizard to make something to order as I've heard good things about them.Any ideas/recomendations would be very welcome.

  11. I saw someone was asking about valve pre amps on the basstalk site and mentioned the possibility of building their own.How about these?http://www.musikding.de/product_info.php?cPath=103&products_id=1033 . I've not tried it but a freind did build a couple of their guitar amps and was well impressed.Has anyone tried them?
