The top is buckeye burl I have a very similar bass and it has (almost) the same top. The fretboard seems to be wenge, but maybe I'm wrong. The heel-top looks like walnut and rosewood (?) contrast layer.

Unfortunately, it's impossible to catch in the pictures (made with my phone) the real color of the bass. That ruby red is dark and elegant. I will make new pictures with a real photo camera, it deserves.

Technical condition 10/10, aesthetically condition 8/10. The hardware and the knobs are oxidized a little bit, the lacquer on the headstock and the truss rods holes area turned a little bit white and the lacquer on the back of the neck turns green. All of this doesn't affect the sound and the playability. You can see everything in the pictures.

A friend of mine has a very similar bass. When I put that bass on, I felt like I was born with it, that it was part of me. Very balanced. I didn't feel those 5 Kilos. I had a lot of basses, but only Ken Lawrence and Mike Lull had a perfect balance like this Mayones. Also, the sound and the craftsmanship are amazing.

It's true, I play in several bands, but only one plays doom. Anyway, doesn't matter too much, I use the same gear, maybe too simple for most of the purists : bass - compressor - overdive. Sometimes I put cables between them. It's enough and the sound is too good (for me) to change anything in the chain. Tony, I'm waiting for your opinion after this concert

You’re right, these pickups are made for 5 string basses and they are dual + single coil.

I’m not very skilled in electronics, but I think you can pair them with any preamp you want. Of course, for an easy install (solderless) you can choose EMG preamps.

Anyway, there are many pdf files on EMG’s website and many official installing tutorials on youtube.

For me Elixirs on Spector were not good only because I have a thick wall of distorted guitars that I have to cut.

I have a NS-5XL (EMG pickups + Haz Lab 18 V preamp) and I can say YES, IT'S GREAT! But, for the people who don't like too much their scooped sound, I have some tips.

When I received the bass I put DR Hi Beams on it. It was ok, but... I mean the sound was huge, tons of pressure, but not really for my taste. I changed the strings and I put Elixirs nickel and my bass died. Then I put DR Sunbeams. There it is! Another bass! Much better than Hi-beams. I couldn't believe that a set of strings could affect the sound so much.

But the search continued... I have a bass (non-Spector) with reverse P - reverse P configuration and my thoughts turned to it. So, I bought for my Spector an EMG 40P5 pickup and I put it in the neck position (instead of 40DC) and I can say the bass sound is now 100% for my taste. Not really like a reverse P - J configuration which I preferred until then, but stronger, so... I'm happier!

I don't know how it would sound with two of EMG 40P5, because that pickup was the only one I found in Europe. Let's hope I will find another one in the future.

(A little bit) later edit: maybe it's good to know that I play in a metal band and that "clank" is mandatory 🤘. No mids, no strong clank.

I was just wondering. They start imprint serial number below the machine heads since 2007, so this must be a very special and unique Warwick bass, maybe a prototype.
