Amor Artificial (Plain link - but does anybody know how to embed YouTube clips? I see other people do it, but I can't find how)

Wondering if there are any other salsa bass players on this forum so posting this clip. Recently made the clip during an intimate live gig, recorded sound via the mixer (and most percussion coming via crosstalk - if that's the correct English word- from other mikes). I love the song and the lyrics, but it was not the best performed song from the evening. It's very new for us and a bit on the high side for the vocals, but this was the only song that I had 2-camera footage from so that made the selection process easy.
Would love to hear your feedback.  There's older clips, mostly salsa and some merengue, on https://pimiento.nl

    Hello, nice song.

have you got the tab please? [email protected] thank you.

  2. Hello,

The G string is too near to the edge, giving me playing problems, specially with pull offs. The  original nut is not well placed and the frets have too much angle.

The fingerboard needed a level also.

The string retainer is neccesary in this bass although they say not.

The knobs work only from 8 to 10, very drastically.

I asked for an upgraded pickguard with a little smaller trust rod hole (enough for the key), and change the placement of the jack. In my opinion is nicer and beatiful.

    Thank you.

That looks a bit of (cheap) plastic, and the work dosen`t look very professional. I know the image is a bit magnified but.. i don`t know if you can call that señorluthier. I think that depends on the context. Was this charged as low cost and fast solution or as premium service? Nonetheless, that might be a perfectly funcional nut.

    Thank you,

    Actually is carbono 😞

  4. Hello,

Finally today I went to a luthier. The G string is too close to the edge.

He told me the sizes are not good.

Nut 1 cm between strings. Bridge 19mm.

    38mm to 61'5 mm I believe I remember.

He said the neck in this bass should be 40 mm not 38mm (the constructor didn't tell me nothing about this possible problem).

One possibility is make a nut with 0'95 cm between strings and bridge 18mm. But maybe is only a quick fix cheaper than repeat the neck with the proper sizes, but I'm not sure.

    What do you think please?.

    Thank you.

I agree with the above - move the whole nut across.  1mm should do it.

In that second video you can actually see what is happening.  As you pull off with an open string, the whole string is vibrating and so the section of string between your pull off and the nut is still vibrating when it hits the corner of the fret chamfer.  You can actually see that in the video.

I reckon 1mm would do it but I would also consider tighter tension strings - that looks very floppy to me ;)

    Thank you very much.

The strings are Ernie ball superslinky. I don't think this strings are floppy but when I'll go to the luthier I'm going to set up a Dr sunbeams 45-100.

    Thank you.

  6. Hello,

Thank you. I sent to the Customer Center of the product the videos I showed you. They said that I have a standar Bass from them, nobody have problems with them.

Said me to send them  back to check It, but if there is no problem I must pay the shipping.

Firstly I answered that I prefer not to ship because it's dangerous, but after your opinions I am really dissapointed with the quality control of the Bass. I want to return It (paying the shipping or wathever), but I'm having no answer at all of them.

    Thank you.

To me it looks like the nut on the bass side (E) is not flush with the side of the neck, and there is some overhang of the nut on the treble side (G). If that is the case (I cannot 100% see it from the picture) I would try to reposition before thinking about replacing the nut.

Yes, looks very reasonable. Maybe 1mm.

    Thank you.

You are also pulling the string off the fretboard in the “buzzy” position. Maybe that is worth exploring.

Yes, but It is because is really easy. Almost without trying you obtain this result. You have to play really really careful to not happen.

Some possible solitions please?. Thank you.

As you can’t see the nut in the second video, it’s hard to compare the nut slot positions compared to the edge of board. If they are the same, then as @Jean-Luc Pickguard says, some tension difference may be at play here. I also don’t think a string retainer would make any difference as you don’t say that it’s popping out of the nut. I’ve played a number of guitars and basses that ‘fall’ off the edge of the board when attacked very laterally in this manner, an MM being the worst offender. Moving the nut over a shade fixes this if it really is an issue.

Hello, thank you for your help.

For me is an issue, I need to play very carefully in order to avoid this bad sound. I'm very unconfortable thinking "you are going to play on that area, take care..".

    Thank you.
