1. Hello! Firstly please forgive my lack of electronics knowledge...

I've seen this question asked a few times all around the place, but my specific question has never really been answered.

I'm currently working on a parts build (build log coming soon) which is having a stonking Fender Wide-Ranged Humbucker in the neck and a normal P Pickup in the usual spot (It will probably be a SD Vintage). I'm planning on using a 2 volume 1 tone layout.

I believe the Humbucker would usually use a 500k pot, while a P pickup should be 250k. I really don't like the way a Precision sounds with 500k pots, and I'm concerned that using 250k across the board would lose whatever top end the not-so-wide-ranged humbucker has. What would be the effect of using a 500k volume for the neck pickup, a 250k volume for the P pickup and either a 250 or 500k for the tone? Or is there some other layout I can use to get the best of both worlds?

Cheers

2. I Brought a Warmoth Jaguar Bass body from Stephen. He kept me filled in the whole time, it arrived in good time and with enough packaging to withstand an explosion.

Absolute pleasure to deal with!

3. Brought an old Fender Wide Range Humbucker from Alan. Absolute pleasure to deal with, delivery couldn't have been any quicker and communications were brilliant.

Thanks again,
Ashley

Key for me is how the overdrive and cab sim sound. Currently my headphone practice rig consists of:

Tuner -> Le Bass -> OmniCabSim -> PJB Bighead

4 boxes, 3 of them very expensive. If I could consolidate those I would be a happy bunny!

Exactly what I want to do with it as well. Currently I'm using the headphone out on my little Roland cube. It sounds just about ok but I'm really looking for something that sounds excellent.

I was looking at going the PJB Bighead rout but I didn't even consider that I might need a cab sim of some kind to get it sounding decent.

According to gear4music it should be a late june release. http://www.gear4musi...ass-Preamp/1GWE

I just don't get the design at all.

It does seem to be confused about what it is.

They should just move all the inputs/outputs over to the left side and it would all be good. Still suits me for straight up headphone use though.

6. £245 for preorder over on thomann http://www.thomann.de/gb/gallien_krueger_plex_preamp.htm

Very interested in this, I love my 700 RB II, and have been searching for something that sounds great for headphone playing. Not too sure about the xlr and headphone/aux being on the top, but It would probably just sit on the desk and never actually go on the pedal board so I doubt that would be an issue.

I usually don't buy stuff like this when it's so new to the market, but I might have to take a chance here.

I also polished mine with wax which has given a great finish in my view.

What kind did you use? I might give it a shot on mine (it's the chocolate finish).

Amazing basses by the way, they pretty much play themselves. Short scale plus contoured small body = most comfortable bass I've ever played.

Does a p neck really sound different to a j on the same bass ?

Personally I very very highly doubt it.

I would eat a hat if you could A/B it and tell a difference.

9. I don't have any problem with hybrid amps, if they had sold it as a hybrid I would have still brought one. What I do have a problem with is being lied to.

Why do I get the feeling that we're not going to get a further response from Mr Ashdown.

Anyway we've gone slightly off topic here....

That's naughty... bordering on downright lies...

There are 4 valve locations on the PCB, only 3 are populated (I remember reading somewhere that the CTM15 shares its PCB with one of the Hayden line of guitar amps which populates the 4th position with one of those magic eye valves. EDIT: It's the Hayden Mini MoFo 15). At an educated guess I'd assume that's the 2 EL84s and the phase inverter. The preamp will be run by the little boxes of sand next to the input jack...

I've never tried a CTM15, and this wouldn't put me off. The vast majority of my "noise boxes" are solid state only after all! But the OP was looking ALL VALVE - this isn't it. It's hybrid done a different way. I'd be very interested to know WHY it was done this way Mr. Ashdown?

Interesting, op amps have no place in an all valve amp!

Surely this is false advertising?

11. The Ashdown chap, Mark, who appears in their videos certainly said it was all valve a few times, and I'm pretty sure it used to say all valve on their website.

edit: infact it still does - "15 Watts All Tube Mini Bass Amp Head"

http://ashdownmusic.com/products/1/Bass-Amplification/1/Custom-Shop/13/CTM15/

I certainly brought my thinking it was all valve...
