1. Having never been to a Basschatters get together, I'd really love to go this, unfortunately Halloween isn't a good time to try and get time off work for me. Never mind, maybe another time

  2. Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.

I've had a look at the NS 2000/5 online and found one identical to this, right down to the gold coloured nut, so it would appear to be an NS 2000/5. I'll update the post accordingly. Lots of reviews on Harmony Central for this bass, all positive!

Owen, I'm in no real hurry to get sell this, so it might still be there when you sell your own bass. The only reason it's for sale is because I bought a Yamaha TRB1005 fretless from a local basschatter, and I can't really justify two 5 strings at the moment.

  3. Is it better if it's a NS2000/5?

I bought it secondhand from GuitarGuitar, Edinburgh about a year and a half ago, where I'm sure they said it was a legend custom. Looking on the intranet, shows that it's not quite the same spec as the newest legend custon, however I'd just assumed it was a slightly older model, so I'm not sure now.

Either way, it's belter of a bass for the money!

  4.
+1. Check out 'Everyday' on Youtube - A couple of fantastic live versions of a song I loved when it was in the charts ages ago..

    Steve
Had a look, some excellent videos. Very funky band and super bass playing. Wish I was in a band like that...!

  5. Very cool, but I have to agree that he's still in Jeff's shadow here. I don't think anybody could outdo Jeff on his own gig! Even the amazing Jennifer Batten is relegated to sideman(woman?)

Jeff builds hotrods as well. What an amazing guy!

I do love Randy's playing with Incognito though...

  6. Could be something to do with the oils in your fingers I suppose.

Nickel can also cause an allergic reaction in certain people, which could also cause this . Nickel is used a lot in jewellery manufacture/plating, hence it comes into contact with skin, i.e. earrings etc, causing nickel itch.

I've had the same problem with nickel acoustic guitar strings, but not all the time, which is strange.

  7.
I was simply pointing out options, Kets, so far as I knew them - I'm not pretending to mind-read the buyer, as to his intentions or otherwise :)

On the question of intent, might this not then fall under the definition of recklessness? I know this much from my time in the insurance business. Ok, so you didn't want to cause harm; but you knew you would; so hey.

Guess than it would be question of whether he genuinely intended to pay, or not?

That perhaps rings a little more true - but, again, without the power of mind-reading (and a good nights sleep, I'm going fuzzy at the edges) i'm happy to leave it
No worries mate, I'm not having a go! I don't have the full facts either, but I've offered my opinion based on the facts, and on my knowledge of law. Lets not forget that lawyers get paid huge amounts of money to argue over such technicalities in court, so it's down to interpretation at the end of the day.

I agree with the folk who reckon he's fallen short on the money, and is too embarrased to say so. If you were going to join a chat form and talk at length with people with the intention of defrauding someone, you'd do for more than £150. And you probably wouldn't give out lots of personal details etc.

    See what happens. Fingers crossed.

  8.
My legal understanding is limited, but are the deception offences not seperate to the theft offences for just this purpose?

Whilst this isn't theft, this individual has obtained property by deception - with the appropriate causality (i.e. send the bass, I'm making the payment now) - so how is this not a legal matter?

I think the police have it all wrong, in this instance. In any case, it doesn't sound as if they've had sufficient information to rule out a deception offence.

I would pursue the legal route instantly, both with a means to exploring the possibility of this being a genuine deception offence; and of securing the return of the property alongside appropriate redress. Appropriate redress should include an element of recompense for stress and inconvenience.

I helped a friend pursue a claim, which proved most satisfying. The repercussions go well beyond the simple recovery of the matter at hand - you're well into the realms of possibility for CCJs, and all other kinds of hang-ups. That would make it suitably hard to secure future employment; accomodation; credit.

Sounds like silly-billy could do with reminding of that. If times are hard now, they can suddenly get a lot harder.
I have to disagree with this. Whilst it isn't theft, I don't think it's fraud either (We don't call it deception in Scotland). In my view, the buyer hasn't intended to decieve or defraud the seller (This is an essential element of fraud). The buyer has agreed to buy the bass, thereby entering into a contract, however the seller has sent the bass before receiving the money which he acknowledges he shouldn't have done. Had the buyer not sent the money, then the bass wouldn't have been sent either. This makes it a civil matter, which obviously isn't a Police matter.

I do however feel sorry for him. On this type of forum, we do treat people differently as fellow basschatters, pushing aside the fact these types of deal are very much "Buyer beware". We all like to trust people and 99% of folk are honest.

Other than that, the advice you've been given sounds sensible. Good luck with it.

  9. I have a CIJ Fender Jazz '62 re-issue (Rosewood board), which I had converted to a fretless when I bought it. It was done by the guy who used to work at Sound Control, Edinburgh. Don't remember his name, however he did a fantastic job and replaced the frets with darker pieces of rosewood. I've not really used it a huge amount and would like to convert it back to a fretted bass. It has a few marks on the board from the roundwound strings, but not too bad.

Would anyone be interested in swapping my fretless neck for a fretted Fender jazz neck, ideal from another '62 reissue, however I would consider other necks?

    Thanks

  10. Up for sale is my Spector NS2000/5 string bass. It has the through neck, which gives excellent sustain and a dark blue translucent finish that shows off the grain of the wood underneath. It has the 34" scale, but the B string still sounds pretty damn good! and has the EMG HZ pickups and active treble/bass boost/cut. It's in excellent condition with no buckle rash, dents or scrapes, and will come in a (used) gator hardcase, included in the price.

Sound wise, this bass is punchy with superb slap tones and very comfortable to play.

    Price is £300.

I'm based near Edinburgh and can arrange local collection or postage, which would be about £20.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Please note, that this was previously listed as a Legend Custom, until an eagle eyed bass chatter pointed out that it's actually an NS2000/5!

  11. Just goes to show, if something seems to good to be true, then it probably is! ALWAYS trust your instincts and walk away if you're unsure.

Maybe the guy selling this has been duped and genuinely doesn't know any better, but a quick check of the intranet would have told him that musicmans just don't go for £300.

Well spotted mate, and thanks for passing it on.

  12. I've got a few of these types of soundtracks and they are awesome, especially the main theme from Dirty Harry. Unfortunately a lot of them state that the musicians and recording locations are unknown, except for the occasional player.

The remastered liner notes, for the Dirty Harry collection feature an interview with Lalo Schifrin where he states that he recalls using Carol Kaye on electric bass and Ray Brown on double bass, with them sometimes playing together on the same tracks.

  13. I looked at this bass a few weeks ago when you spoke about selling it and I've hummed and hawed over it. It looks stunning and from the description sounds like and awesome bass.

Unfortunately I can't justify a trip from Edinburgh to Cheltenham to collect it, things being tight enough already! I assume it's a through neck, hence the collection only?

  14. Many years ago when I was at College studying music I met a guy who was a leftie. He'd taken a right handed Hohner stick bass bass and played it upside down, left handed without re-stringing (Like Jimmy Haslip)

Unfortunately, when it came to bass lessons the bass teacher took one look at this guy and said "There's nothing I can do with that" and shook his head!

Can't always be easy for lefties!
