1. Hi all!

I recently noticed that I’ve lost a bridge height screw out of my Sterling Ray34. I thought I’d ordered the right size screw from AllParts, but turns out it’s too big.

I’ve been trying to find somewhere that has the exact screw I need or the exact dimensions I need, as it’s all a bit of a minefield for me with some being in inches and some mm, and I’m now not sure exactly what I need.

If anyone is able to provide a link to the screw I need or the sizing I need I’d be really grateful!

All the best and thanks in advance,

    Mike

  2. PRICE REDUCED TO £150

Fantastic sounding pedal, emulates the classic Ampeg sound and much more versatile than the standard Sansamp BDDI pedal in my humble opinion!

Only selling this as I've now got a Darkglass which is more suited to my needs. The pedal is in in great condition as shown in the photos, has lived on a pedal board and been well looked after. Also have the tin and instructions to include in the sale.

Postage at buyers cost is no problem at all. Any questions drop me a message! :)

  3. Hi all,

I'm sure this has been asked before (apologies if it has!) but I'm looking to replace the preamp valves on my terror bass head to get more usable gain out of them. I play at lot of metal so like the high gain sound with it breaking up too much like it does currently.

Basically I'm looking for suggestions on the best valves to get and where to get them from. If anyone could also recommend a place to get the valves fitted too as I'm a bit nervous on doing it myself that would also be greatly appreciated! I'm based on the south coast in the Portsmouth/ Southampton area.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

I ordered the B7K plus a EHX Enigma, the latter of which I wanted to return - they emailed me a pre-paid postage label, couldn't be simpler unless they came to pick it up. Pretty impressive considering it won't be cheap to go back to Germany. They are taking a hit on this, but by doing so are ensuring my future business.
Sounds like Thomann is definitely the place to go for it. I did see the one for sale on here, but for an extra £20 I could get one from Thomann with a 3 year warranty so just weighing that up at the moment!

If nobody can help, don't forget that in this day and age you can order online then return it if you don't like it for a full refund - some even pay for the return postage, such as Thomann who are selling it for just over £250!

Funnily enough that was where I was looking to purchase from! I've just had a look and they do 30 day money back guarantee, might as well just order one then send it back if it turns out it isn't for me

  6. Hi all,

Recently had some serious GAS for a darkglass B7K - looks like an incredible piece of kit. However at the price point I'd ideally like to try one out before pulling the trigger and purchasing one. Any basschatters in the Portsmouth/ Southampton area own one and willing to let me have a go? Any help much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Mike

  7. I've had a very similar one on Gumtree myself, put the bass on there for sale and half an hour later some guy replied saying he wants it for his son's birthday but he needs to arrange for his agent to pick it up as he works on an oil rig and he wanted paypal details to pay - needless to say it was a scam and when I questioned him he mysteriously stopped replying...

Maybe the clues in the name and are only available through Thomann

Would make sense to try and give them something they can't f*** the UK market with

Looks like it can de delivered to the UK - if so it's an incredible price for an 8x10" from such a big name

I have the RM800 head on order with Ashdown, will let you know when it arrives :)
If you could let me know your thoughts that would be great, looks like it's got all the built in stuff my Evo head has and it's under half the weight - I feel GAS coming along...

  9. Been having a browse of various retailers today and came across the new 800w Ashdown rootmaster head and 6x10" cab:

Also saw an Ashdown Toneman 8x10" on Thomann for just under £300, I had to do a double take!

Can't see any info about these pieces of kits on the Ashdown site, anyone had the opportunity to try these out yet or know anything about them? Always been a big Ashdown fan and they've impressed me once again!

  10. Thanks for the advice everyone, much appreciated :) makes perfect sense what's been said about taking the DI from the Sansamp as opposed to the bass head. I think in the future I'll be setting up this way and letting him sort out the rest - it was very difficult last time trying to perform without being able to hear myself!

  11.
why would he insist you use no amp? He could take the DI from the pedal, but you can use the amp as normal as a monitor. It makes no sense to me

If you're relying on the monitors, and you tell the soundman that you can't hear yourself, and he doesn't fix it, you're pretty stuffed!
I think its to do with changeover times/ stage space saving. It's really annoying though, I don't see the issue with using the sansamp as my stompbox then taking the DI from the head, but then again I'm no sound engineer!

Using the amp as my stage monitor, should I use the output or parallel output on the sansamp in conjuction with the DI?

  12. I've got a Sansamp BDDI and I'm very happy with it, think it's a great pedal for my needs. Usually I try and use it as a stomp box to colour the tone (bass to sansamp to bass head then DI out of the head).

However the sound guy at my local venue always insists I just use the DI on the Sansamp and no amp, which I can understand from a convenience point of view, but I always find that 1.) I can never hear myself, no matter how much I ask for the bass to be turned up in the monitors and 2.) People in the audience say the bass is non-existent, which is very frustrating.

It is possible to DI out of the sansamp and use the output/ parallel output at the same time to plug into my amp to use it as a monitor/ use the amp alongside the PA? Apologies if this is a ridiculous question, but I haven't been able to find an answer on my own - any help would be much appreciated!

thanks dad but I'd be really worried using someone elses amp just in case it broke when I'm playing with it.

I'm drawn to the Ampeg just because of the name and the Fender because Ive used one before and liked the tone - just worried how reliable it is.
The Ampeg PF500 has got a nasty habit of breaking down and dying, they can be very hit and miss in terms of reliability - if your going to get an Ampeg head get the PF800, they seem to be much more reliable for some reason and no reports of them going wrong

These are impressive basses. There is a video of Ed Friedland playing the CV range up against the Fender originals and to be honest, the Squier CV P more than holds its own.
Saw this video a couple of weeks back, I actually preferred the sound of the CV Squier to the Fenders! I used to own a Squier VM Jazz in the black/ maple combination and it looked awesome, may have to look into investing in one of these as i'm after a P bass for my collection...

Found the extra money, will be ordering a SBMM Ray34 this week unless told this would be a bad idea.

Thank you, especially to everyone who said Stingray type bass.
You won't be dissapointed with one of these, I have one as my main bass and it sounds incredible, personally think its streets ahead of my modern player jazz bass in terms of tone

If there's an opportunity to get an HLF instead id give that a go. The port at the bottom will help "woof" your sound across the room. The effect a port has on a heavy wood cab is quite stunning. If you can, try the two against each other in a shop - hopefully you'll see what I mean :)
Just been having a look at Ampeg's site and specs and I do see what you mean, it seems the SVT410HLF is more suited to lower tunings as such.

I'd love to try them both out side by side but trouble is finding a shop nearby that stocks them unfortunately.

Just been looking at the PF410 cab and it seems to be ported too, and seem to go to lower frequencies:
