2.
Correct. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I don't think this will make a huge difference to the overall sound. I had both mine switched off when I was using ABMs, I'm old skool, me.
Okay thanks for that mate!
 3.
Let us know how you get on.
It turns out the ABM is the ABM410H and my mag is the mag 410T? Does this make a huge difference? I don't really know the technical side. I think the h/t stands for horn/tweeter?
 4.
I would go with the mismatched 410s for now and if you get a chance to try a matched pair, try it and see if you can tell the difference. Then try the other matched pair and see which you prefer.
I think I'll buy the ABM and then I'll see what I think. Thanks!
 5.
In the meantime if you use an ABM and a MAG together, one 450W and the other 600W, there will be an imbalance resulting in the MAG working a bit harder, but as you are unlikely to be using the full power of your amp I don't think it would necessarily be a problem if you keep an eye (or ear) on it.
Thanks, I am using it with a 250w 1x15" cab at the moment whilst I acquire another 4x10", so this doesn't really concern me as I am used to being careful with it! So two ABM410s will be better than two mag410 deeps? T
 6. Thanks for your replies! The mag 410T is rated at 450w, so I guess the ABM has a higher power rating. I am considering going for the ABM as it is better quality than the MAG, but would it affect my tone if I have the two different cabs? Or for the sake of preserving tone, would you reccommend just going for two MAG410Ts? Or should I buy the ABM410T as it is a good price with the intention of buying a second in the future? Thanks.
 7. Hi, I am currently using the Ashdown ABM900 Evo III head with the Mag 410T deep. I have been offered a second one for a good price, or for the same price i have been offered an ABM410H. which would you recommend? Thanks. Tom
 8.
When I used a VHF system, I quite often used to get other users on my frequency, a lot of taxi firms as well, believe it or not, so had to go back to a lead on those occasions. The great digital tv switch over was all about selling analogue frequencies to mobile phone operators for 4G. This has made most wireless musical equipment that also used those frequencies obsolete overnight, however, if it was me, I'd just use it anyway. You're unlikely to be arrested or even noticed, but you might get the odd mobile call out of your amp sometime in the future.
Thanks for that! So I guess the VHF Audio Technica is the worse out of the two, but the AKG UHF frequency is illegal. Perhaps I will just stick with the AKG for now until something happens, be it arrested or a phone call. Or maybe I will just stick with a lead!
 9.
Correct. Basically, your options for general use are - http://www.jfmg.co.u...mics/exempt.htm Or Channel 38 for higher end stuff before going into leased frequencies.
Thanks for that. That sucks! How far is this hypothetically? Am I going to get arrested if I play a gig down at my local pub? The audio technica system is still legal though?
 10.
Being UHF, it would be the AKG for me and the AKG transmitter is considerably more convenient. They are both only single channel so are likely to pick up other transmitters using those frequencies but less likely with UHF. Are the frequencies still legal?
After looking at this, does this mean the AKG is in fact illegal? http://www.whatpa.co...-allocation.asp
 11. I thought the Audio Technica transmitter would have been more reliable etc as the AKG one seems a bit... I'm not sure what I mean but I would have thought the bigger transmitter would have been better than the smaller one! Legal? I have no idea! They were just given to me! I've never used wireless before. The AKG frequency on the back says 854.900 Mhz. The AT says 175.000 Mhz.
 12. Howdy. I have been given two wireless systems but I am unsure which is better. The first is the Audio Technica ATW-201 ATW-R200 receiver and ATW-T201 transmitter. The second is the AKG WMS 40 PRO. SR-40 receiver and the guitar bug. I'm not sure which is going to be better. The Audio technica looks a lot older than the AKG, but the transmitter looks a lot more reliable - it is a small box type, as opposed to the AKG guitar bug which is just a little clip in the jack. I have tried them both out and I cannot tell much difference. Perhaps I have an undeveloped ear or something but I was wondering technically which would be better? http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/38820-akg-wms40-pro-guitar-bug-wireless-system.html http://www.zzounds.com/item--AUTATW201 Thanks. Tom
 13.
Yup, that will work. I prefer to think of such a thing as a temporary, experimental measure. If it becomes a more regular usage I'd be more inclined to solder a short extension in place. . less connections always seems like a better thing.

As a temporary fix it will be fine however if you plan to do it regularly I would recommend replacing the complete combo cable with a longer one that will reach both amps.
Is there a technical reason for doing such a thing? Will audio quality be affected if I use a coupler? Or is it better to replace the cable just for less hassle and to make things easier? Thanks! Tom
 14. Hi I'm wondering if someone can help me out. I have the Ashdown MAG 300 Evo ii combo and I am trying to use its 15" speaker and connect it to my head. At the rear panel, there is a cable coming from inside the combo which is attatched to the speaker. However, this does not reach up to my Peavey head. Is it possible to use a coupler like this to put between two speaker cables in order to make an extension of sorts? The seller said it would work but I don't know if he is being genuine or if he would say anything? I read on one of the forums that you shouldn't use one as they are for guitar signals not speaker signals. 16.
As Barkin indicates, the Peavey solution is not "technically better" than the full Ashdown solution. Do as you say: experiment. Let your ears decide, absolutely not the wattage in this case. What you perceive as louder may be due to a different frequency response and possible compression. It's all good, but just let your ears decide. Have we talked about ears yet? Yeah, the Sub on this MAG head is not that great, as it is very slow. Have you looked into removing the MAG head should you go for the Peavey? It should not be too hard. When I had a MAG combo, I planned to split the head and cab parts, to get better handling (but sold it before getting the work done), and seem to remember that the removal of a few screws should be enough for the head to be able to slide out. Good luck!
Hey! Thanks for your response. I had not considered removing the MAG head to be honest, I don't think I would just incase anything happened and I want to shift it in the future in order to just purchase a cab! I just need to find some way of connecting the speaker in the combo now to the head and I will be sorted! Cheers! T
 17.
Technically, there's no real difference - an amp driving 2 cabs in both cases. Me - I'd just ask myself which sound I preferred, and whether it's worth lugging the Peavey around as well.
Thanks, I think I like the tone of the Peavey more than the Ashdown actually, although the Ashdown is a bit warmer. I think I'll just keep playing around and then I'll know! T
 18. So would Peavey | | Ashdown Combo Ashdown Cab Be better in a technical sense and more beneficial than Ashdown Combo - Ashdown Cab | BOOM ? With regards to tone, I am able to get a similar tone with the combo and the head, although the head has a pretty gnarly sub effect that destroys Ashdown's version. T
 19.
It's not necessarily bad, but more risky. Huge difference. That said, exactly the Ashdown MAG 410 and MAG 115 are said to pair well, and I sense that those are the exact ones that you are talking about. In case: Go for it! I don't know the Peavey 450 Tour, and don't know what you know, but just to be sure: do not assume that 450W is 50% louder than 300W. It's not, and you might be hard pressed to hear the difference - depending on other characteristics. So the question becomes whether you have a good reason to shift to the Peavey. It might not be worth it. Mind you: might.
Thanks for your reply. Yes those are the two so I was quite fortunate! So would the Peavey 450w Head hooked up the my combo speaker and my cab not be louder than just my 300w combo? My goal with my sound really is just to fill up the whole mix. My guitarists play technical frilly riffs - we are inspired by Foals - and my job is just to fill out the low end.
Don't get hung up on the physics of amps and speakers and enjoy playing, after all, that's why you started playing, right?
thanks! That's some pretty good advice I think
 20.
The ashdown website states that the speaker on your combo is 8Ω, so the short answer is yes, you can use both cabs with your Peavey head. Running two 8Ω cabs (one from each speaker out) will provide a 4Ω load on the head, so you'll get all 450W from your head. (2 speaker in parallel uses the formula R1 x R2 /R1 + R2 - where R is the resistance/impedance of each speaker. In this instance the numbers are 8 x 8 divided by 8 + 8, which gives you 4Ω). Congratulations on your new freebie - looks like a nice bit of kit.
I've heard that a 4x10 and a 1x15 isn't a very good pairing, could you explain why not?
 21. Thanks for your reply! I appreciate the help. I don't really understand the whole technical side of things, I just want to sit and play bass and it will always sound good! Any idea how I would be able to connect the speaker in the combo though to the head? The cable is really short and only reaches the output. Can you buy extension sort of things? My combo speaker did have a bit of an adventure... it blew and when I took it back to my shop, they then sent it back to Ashdown who apparently didn't have the stock speaker in so they had to give me an upgraded speaker. They wouldn't have given me a speaker of a different ohm-age would they? Thanks again! Tom
 22. Hi, I have always played using a combo, but I have just been given a Peavey 450 Tour and an Ashdown 410 cab. I am currently using an Ashdown Mag 300 Evo II. The rear panel on my combo looks like this, with two speaker outputs, one which is hooked up through a cable coming from inside the amp. http://www.guitarmagazine.co.uk/imag.../IMG_27162.jpg Is there a way for me to use the 15" speaker inside the combo with my 4x10" cab and hook it up into my Peavey head? The Peavey runs 450W RMS into 4 ohms, the Ashdown Combo runs at 'minimum load 4 ohms' and the Ashdown Cab is 8 ohms. I don't really understand the whole ohms thing. hope you can help! Tom.
