Gibson signed a deal last year with Cleartone to supply their factory-fitted strings for guitars
http://www.cleartonestrings.com/gibsons-top-notch-quality-matches-cleartone-strings/
but, it seems they only do what look like coated nickel roundwounds
http://www.cleartonestrings.com/product/nickel-plated-steel-nps-bass-strings/
so, that might not be so helpful -

Let's face it though. None of the members of the Durutti Column other than Vini Reilly were really important.

A good point, well made -

My personal favourite band from the 80s (apart from us ) was the Cocteau Twins
Simply Red were never on my radar
Though, curiously, Chris Joyce and Tony Bowers of Simply Red were both previously members of The Durutti Column, who are often compared to the Cocteaus. -
consider my interest piqued
edit: Having looked at their web site, especially at that price. -

Damned right BRX.
The 80s had fantastic music, just none of it ever got in the charts.

I beg to differ. XTC's Senses Working Overtime made it to No. 5. in 1982. -
No practical difference between them for me, listening on some fairly decent headphones (Shure SE215s)

I thought it was going to be Angel of Death by Slayer - still different strokes 'n all that
I was thinking of Mexican Radio by Wall of Voodoo, but the same applies -
Anyhow, congrats to @discreet on the new MB200. I very nearly bought one myself, but decided I wanted the toys that the 500 offered.
-
Interesting that GK seem to have changed the illuminated push pull switches with toggles for controls like the -10db cut on both models since I got mine.
Although there is only one speaker output, I think it is a dual Spakon / 1/4" Jack - so you never get caught out if you forget your Speakon lead
YMMV. As I discovered after I bought mine a couple of years ago, they changed the MB500 to Speakon-only and lost the 1/4" jack socket in the middle, even though the manual still referred to it.
It's quite possible they've value engineered the MB200 in the same way.
Edit: though I'm happy to be corrected if anyone has a recently manufactured one. -
<super pedantic>but he did also own a 5 string</super pedantic>
How many basses do you own?
Four. I have an old German upright, a Fender 5-string, a Hagstrom 8-string, and the Precision.
-
I seem to have just bought one.
Thanks for the heads up. -
I think we can resolve this.
There's a story that Geoff Emerick tells about Something in an interview with Music Radar about the making of Abbey Road.
http://www.musicrada...bey-road-219542
"Paul started playing a bass line that was a little elaborate, and George told him, 'No, I want it simple.' Paul complied. There wasn't any disagreement about it, but I did think that such a thing would never happened in years past. George telling Paul how to play the bass? Unthinkable! But this was George's baby, and everybody knew it was an instant classic."
So, I'm reading that as George got his way and the recorded version is the simpler bass line, which would account for

why the story is floating about that George thought Paul's playing was too busy

why he was happy for Klaus Voorman to play almost exactly the same line at the Bangladesh concert
-
I thought it was going to be a Small Faces cover
That 185 should never be prone to feedback unless there's a specific issue.
Ah, yes, I forgot the Galxie is a solid body.
That's a bit odd then.

My Hofner Verithin will do feedback at the drop of a hat when playing loud
You have three options
1) Careful muting of the strings with your fingers
2) I have found you can notch out troublesome frequencies with EQ to minimise the feedback
3) Go with it and use the feedback for a drone note (which I used to do a lot with one of my old bands) -
FWIW this guy on Flickr seems to have the same model and doesn't think much of it

Ta. I may well give them a chance.
I've my eye on some Ernie Ball Slinky cobalt flats, too, so I think I may put them head to head on The Stingray after payday and see which I prefer. -
Eric Faulkner's been touring with his own version of the Rollers recently.
Conspicuously absent from this one. -

Bass Collection do an excellent tribute to Jaco's Jazz with no scratch plate called the Portrait. Check out bass centre.com.

I am beginning to feel like it would be nice if someone was making cheap-ish fretless Jazz basses that aren't Jaco tributes with no scratch plate. -

It does seem to run counter to the natural order of things.

A Sessionette 100 by any chance?
I used to torture one badly with extended bass feedback drones on my Hofner Verithin. Amazed it carried on working sometimes.

Or maybe it's a church band
