  1. Just thought I`d say HI Vanon I guess I`m a little "Tubby" these days too round the waist, but at 41 I blame middle age spread Welcome to the forums, I only joined up a few days ago and everyone has been VERY helpful and as a shout out to Stingray Pete, he was super generous and offered to set a bass up for me for free
  2. Thanx Pete, yes I was very pleased with the deal I got and will now practice and save my ass off until I can afford a decent bass or the mrs gets me one for X.mas I also noticed your button moon vid and yr location says button moon. I always thought that program had a hidden drug meaning, It may just be me, but as an ex drug user the rocket they flew in looked very syringe like and the words "were off to button moon, we`ll follow Mr spoon" to me reminded me of cooking up in the spoon and then "Travelling" to button moon
  3. Thank you BB, Pleased to meet you
  4. I have just bought a bass after not playing for 15 years and although I can remember the basics and some scales, I too have realised I have to start from scratch and learn ALL the scales and even all the notes on the bass again, I used to be able to look at the bass and know EXACTLY what note on each string and fret was. And altho I know some of them I am going to have to re-learn everything again. And besides I know players who have been playing over 30+ yrs and even they say they are still learning new stuff to this day, so don`t beat yourself up too bad, I`m sure the best of players out there would admit they could still learn something new and if they say they couldn`t and know EVERYTHING there is to know....... Then I say they are lying and have too big an Ego

  6. @ Yepmop, (Or anyone else who can help) What kind of filler would I need to get in order to fill ikn the fret lines?? Thanx in advance for any info
  7. Thanx guys for all yr replies I actually went out and bought a cheap bass on tuesday Its not the best bass in the world and I have to lower the action on it to get it set up to how I like my bass as I like a REALLY low action. I can do that myself, Only the Allen key set I have the smallest one is 2mm and my new bass needs a 1 mm GRRRRR!!! Anyway I went out and was passing a cash generator and they had these Jaxville (skull design) basses in stock which were brand new and marked up @ £80. I asked the assistant if I could have a go of one and it played well enough and thought I`d ask if there was room for negotiation on the price. She said she couldn`t and so as I was about to walk away she said she`d call her manager and see what they could do. Her manager came up and it was a very good friend of mine whom I have known for over 25 yrs and she used to come and watch me play in a few of my bands years ago Anyways Cutting to the chase I explained I wanted to start playing again and she was like WOW yeah u should deffo start up again. Anyways I ended up walking out of there with the bass and a small 15 watt practice amp for £60 A Bargain i thought as the amp was marked up @ £15 so I had a total saving of £30. And like I said its not the best bass in the world but my mrs said that IF I can prove that me wanting to play again is not just some phase I`m going thru then she will buy me ANY bass I want up to the value of £600 for X.mas But Thanx to everyone for replying and a Big THANK YOU to Pete for offering to set up my Tanglewood for free
  8. @ Funkateer, Maybe your right about selling the Tanglewood. In my Intro thread I put that I also have a Gewa tennessee six string electro/acoustic guitar which usually sells for around £300+ new. After trying MANY times and failing to learn to play a six string guitar (DAMN these fat clumsy fingers) then maybe if I can sell the Tanglewood and the Gewa I may be able to get enough cash together to buy myself a decent bass Thanx for your help.
  9. Hi Iceonaboy. Ok Thanx for the quick reply, so my mate was probably right. I think the Tanglewood is only worth between £150-200 brand new. So to spend £100 having it re-fretted and set up, seems a bit of a waste as I would rather put that kind of cash to buying a bass I would really like to own. I have aprrox £200-250 to spend so far on a new bass, so I think I`ll wait and save a bit longer. But next time I`m in town I guess it cant hurt to pop into a music shop and enquire how much it`ll cost. so thanx
  10. Hi Guys, I posted a new post in the introductions section yesterday. As I said in that post I haven`t played in over 15 yrs and am looking to start playing again. I have been given a Tanglewood Jazzman style bass (It looks like this but is a Tanglewood) [attachment=138035:Bass.jpg] by a friend but he had taken the frets out as he wanted to turn it into a fret-less. Well he never got round to doing it so he gave it to me and I bought a new set of frets and knocked them in and as I am a novice at setting up guitars I cut the frets with wire cutters, not realising that you need special fret cutters :s So I was wondering if anyone knows how much (Approx) it would cost to have a bass re-fretted and the action set up?? Its just someone I talking to said that for the price it would cost to have the bass set up I could probably pick up a cheap new bass, or a better 2nd hand one for around the same price or cheaper Was just wondering if this is true?? Be grateful for any help, Thanx in advance John..
  11. Hi Bass Tractor, Thanx for your post and the welcome , I always thought my bass had a short scale neck on it,(well that was what someone once told me when they used it). Maybe u`r right and it was the fact that it was headless that gave that impression? I remember back 15 yrs ago that the strings cost a lot more than a usual set of bass strings, so I am guessing it`ll be the same nowadays. After I put my post up I explored the site a bit more and found the section where people put their instruments up for sale. I saw a steinberger up for sale but they wanted over a £1000 pound for it. :s :s I also saw a section where you could trade other instruments on here too. I have a Gewa Tennessee electro acoustic guitar I had given to me and on all the sites I have looked at they seem to be worth around £300+ new. I have been trying (With VERY LITTLE success) to learn how to play a six string guitar but just can`t seem to get my fat clumsy fingers around the chords So i was thinking of maybe posting it on here in the swap option and ask for a bass worth around the same price as I could get for the Gewa 2nd hand, just to have a bass to start practicing again with until I can save up and get the bass I really want. But Thanx for all the help
  12. Hey comfortably Numb, Thanks for the welcome and clicked on your link and liked your page coincidentally my favorite band are Pink Floyd, so altho I don`t usually get online much I will try and see when you are playing in or around cardiff nxt and maybe come down and watch you guys play So Maybe we`ll get to meet one day in the future
  13. KK cool Thanx for the reply and Thanx for the welcome also
  14. Just came across this site and thought Id join up So Hi to all you players out there, My name is John. As i`m new I wasn`t sure where I should post this but i haven`t played in about 15 yrs after having my uninsured bass stolen There are other factors which I`d rather not go into as to why I haven`t played in so long but after getting my life back on track I would like to start playing again. Ok I learnt to play on a Hohner B2a steinberger copy (one of these) [attachment=137986:41f5jXnp0bL._SX385_.jpg] which I picked up 2nd hand about 25 yrs ago for what I thought was a bargain at £70 British pounds. The Hohner B2a was a headless bass which had a 24 fret short scale neck on it. So when I would go somewhere and end up jamming with someone else`s usual scale bass I found myself hitting alot of bum notes unless I was Looking at what I was doing cos my bass had a short scale neck. Anyway cutting to the chase I thought I would like to maybe try a 5 string bass this time around and I found that Hohner do (or did) a 5 string version of my old bass but they cost around £500-£600 British pounds :s As this is WAY out of my price range I was wondering if anyone could suggest a short scale 24 fret 5 string headless bass in or around the £200-£250 price range?? Any info would be gratefully appreciated. Thanx in advance for any help John.
