In the end it's totally subjective. Just because a bass is generally highly regarded doesn't mean it's the right one for you.

Play everything you can and make up your own mind.

Getting my hands on them is the problem. No specialist shops here in Dublin. A lot of crap being sold here. The second hand market is where I'm gonna buy this bad boy so trusting the seller will be key.

  2. Hey all

I'm about to make a purchase. I've yet to decide on a bass but looking at the higher end of the market; Sadowsky, Fodera etc. My question is, what makes these instruments worth the money they are? What's the difference in build quality when you get this high up the market? What distinguishes these guys from everything that is perceived to be below? I have a modulus vj and I love it. My girlfriend has made me promise not to sell it cause she'll know I'll regret it. This new bass has to live up to the Modulus and hopefully surpass it. It has to be a 4 string and it has to be a jazz. What are your thoughts?

  3.
Don't think it is on the iplayer - should be at the bottom of the page you linked to.
Still only available in the UK unfortunately. I'll think of a way of hearing it somehow.

  4. Thanks lads,

We're based out of Dublin but with a couple of different nationalities involved. Raggae legend Dave Barker is featured on the 1st track on the show. I never got to hear the bonus track because I'm region restricted on the iPlayer.

The name of the band is Supertonic Sound Club and we traveled over about 2 weeks ago to put the tracks down for Mark Lamarr's 'God's Jukebox'. Rented the gear and didn't know what I was getting. A 4x10 Ashdown arrived and I was a little disappointed. Just looking at the Ashdown sight now, it was a Klystron C410H. I've got my Modulus Jazz going through it and for a speaker cab boasting 4 x 10's, there wasn't much in the way of tonal variety. Anyway, it was loud enough and the engineers did a good job on the mix after. You can hear the tone at the breakdown of the last tune "Whoop Whoop". Anyway, please give it a listen and provide some feedback if you've got time. There's a couple of fluffs here and there but the pressure of one-take recording got to me a little and the little voice telling me there's no way I'm gonna make the next bit. We're on in and around the bottom of each hour give or take a few minutes but give the whole show a listen cause there's some great music choices by Lamarr and his listeners.

    Happy evening,

I've just joined a working soul band and I need to look the part. Anybody got a high-end jazz bass for this baby? I've since put a slight chip on the underside of the neck for posterity.

as i said in the original topic i dont think id use the bass much even if i got the electrics fixed, it wont uproot my stingray.

When i was making my half arsed attempt at soldering the pot on last night, i did manage at one point to get it to work (sounded very good too), and so that kinda proves that everythin else in there should be okay, and that its just a few loose connections.

il sell for what i bought it for, £204 + shipping. in all likliness its gunna take 5 mins with a soldering iron to fix it, but i personally aint touching one again after how stressed i got last night (no idea how annoying it is to get it working and then lose it!), so im willing to pass on the ebay bargain on here. The bass retailed for £850 i think back in the early nineties when new, and the led's would have cost more to install than what im selling the bass for anyways!

let me know if theres any interest
Hi

I'll take it if you can get me a quote for shipping to Dublin.

    Cheers

  8.
LOL, that's a better way of doing it. I've had three jazzes in the last couple of years, but I still have my Statiis! Although, don't let me stop you if someone offers you the right money :) That said, if I wasn't already tied into buying a lovely old 1990 Series 2, I'd be knocking on your door with a thousand pounds!

    Rich.

Btw, call me a little eccentric, but I had a period last year (only about 4 weeks) with no Status bass in my posession... Felt totally wrong & almost panicky! Call me a sad man by all means...
A very sensible point of view. Consider this bass off the market.

    Thanks Rich

    Not a bit sad.

  9.
Sadowskys are great instruments, but I'd still be inclined to say, "DON'T DO IT!!!" :)
I hear what your saying but I've got a problem holding onto things. The status is actually amazing and trading it doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I might just satisfy my recent craving for a jazz bass and go out and buy one.

    Cheers
