  1. These are the settings I ended up with on the night. Gain just a bit back from peaking. I'm running a compressor on my board so there's an even signal going into the amp. 16859823797636146516686527191590.thumb.jpg.751addfa336e70055d78a7fdeb1389dc.jpg

I'll try a few different settings at the next gig and see if there's any improvement. I'm wondering if the room had anything to do with the poor sound at the weekend.

  2. I've recently purchased a TC Electronic BH550 and I'm running it through a BC210 cab. I've gigged the set up a few times now and it's lacking bottom end and presence even with the volume up pretty far and the bass turned up. Could I be overloading the cab?

The TC website says the max rating of the cab is 250w @ 8ohms. I know the BH550's power rating is a bit of a mystery but maybe it's putting out over 250w @ 8ohms.

There's a K212 can available locally so I was thinking that swapping to that would give me more headroom and the 12" speakers would give a bit more bottom end. I'm playing with a rock covers band so there's quite a bit of volume on stage. Has anyone got experience of 2x10 and 2x12s and can advise on the differences?

  3. Set of flatwound chrome long scale medium gauge bass strings. Only played once before deciding I needed a lighter gauge.

    Gauges are: 50, 70, 85, 105.

The strings are cut to fit a Fender Jazz bass so will still be long enough for all types of bass.

Normally £42. Will post for a couple of pounds extra.

  4. I used to work for a research company who collected the data for PRS. I was paid to go to pubs and clubs and write down every song that was played in a set period of time, PRS would then use that data to estimate how frequently songs were played and how much to pay out in royalties.

It was a mind numbing job made worse by drunk people coming up to me every five minutes asking what I was doing. I now know the names of a LOT of terrible dance songs though. Swings and roundabouts!

I only did one pub where they had a live band playing, I just asked to have a look at their set list and left early! It's not the responsibility of the performers, the venues need the licence.

  5. Electro Harmonix Micro Q Tron Envelope Filter effects pedal for sale.

Works great on bass and gives you an awesome funky sound. The pedal is in good condition and comes with velcro on the bottom ready to stick to your pedalboard.

Collection from Colchester or i can post it.

  6. I've got two high quality jack to jack speaker cables made by Award Session for sale as my new amp and cab uses speakons. Both cost me about £30 a few months ago.

1m jack to jack with straight connectors - £7 posted

2m jack to jack with one angled connector - £10 posted

Or I can do both for £15 posted.

  7. The Aux only coming out of the Phones out is a bit annoying really but i have another amp that does this so it's not too much of a problem.

Yes i covered the tweeter and there was no difference. I also put my ear right up against the grille in front of the tweeter and couldn't hear anything. Must be blown.

Any ideas where to get a new one?

  8. The Aux Input only comes out through the Phones out but i ran my ipod through the main input with the EQ flat and it seems that the tweeter is dead. When I adjust the treble and tweeter controls while playing my ipod you can really hear the difference through the main speakers, much more than when playing bass through it. I guess this is because the bass isn't making as much noise at the higher frequencies.

    New tweeter it is then!

  9. Hi all,

I've had the BH500 for a week or so now and I love it, the sound is great and it's really versatile.

One problem I've been having though is with the treble and tweeter controls. They don't seem to make much different to the sound when I turn them. Anyone else found this? I'm aware that the treble control boosts and cuts at different frequencies but it still doesn't make any difference.

I'm using it with an Ashdown mag 210 deep cab.

Could the treble control be broken?

  10. I've just bought a EHX Micro Q Tron from a seller on BC and im having problems with powering it.

For some reason it doesn't work when I run it straight off a Boss 9v power supply. It runs on a battery fine and on the power supply when it's daisy chained.

The strange thing is that it only works on the daisy chain when another pedal is connected to the daisy chain AND the pedal is connected to another pedal via a patch lead. But when I put a battery in it runs fine with all types of connection.

    What's going on here?

The seller has been very helpful and he never noticed the issue as he only ran it on his pedal board.

  11. Trade price is not correct! It's supposed to be £80 (i've already paid for the post)

I'm selling my Ashdown EB-180 as i'm upgrading my equipment. This is the 180 watt model with the single 15" speaker. I'm looking for £80 or close offers.

It has served me well for many years and i've never had any problems with it. It's done everything from small shows to festival stages. It's loud enough to keep up with a loud rock band without PA support. It has a great range of sounds and includes Deep and Bright Boost, Sub Octave effect, DI out and FX loop. Comes with original manual. One very small scratch on the front grill (shown in pictures).

Perfect amp for beginner or pro looking for something compact and portable.

You're welcome to come and try it out before buying. I'm in Colchester, Essex.

Pick up is preferred but I can deliver or meet halfway depending on the distance.

  12. I've really started taking my pedal board seriously this year. For many years I had a TU-2, EHX Bass Blogger and a CEB-3 which I never used. Now I'm gigging a lot more and playing many different styles of music so i'm branching out into making some different sounds.

    I've now expanded to TU-2 > Behringer DC9 > OC-2 > GE-7B > EHX Bass Big Muff Pi > Boss CEB-3 > Behringer BDI 21

I'm pretty pleased with this set up but I'm looking to add a Q-Tron and probably a better compressor. I think I'm going to need a bigger board!

  13. An update from the OP.

I ended up getting the PF 350 which i have now returned for a refund for several reasons. The amp turned out to be underpowered for what i need, the limiter would kick in even at relatively low volumes. Also, the 'balanced' XLR on the back of the amp doesn't appear to be balanced at all. The signal into the PA was really hot even with the gain at 10 o'clock. And the lack of a pad meant i'd need to run it into a DI box.

These problems coupled with the reliability issues worried me enough to take up the 7 day returns policy of the shop.

I've now ordered a GK MB500. Fingers crossed it's better than the Ampeg!
