1.
you mean you want to join godspeed ?

:)
Haha, apart from ruthlessly hunting down every Post-Rock group I can possibly find to get into, I've actually avoided even listening to Godspeed for years, and I couldn't tell you why either. I did have 'Mono', 'Gregor Samsa' and 'red sparowes' (who I saw last sunday) in mind when I was typing that paragraph though.

2. Pure Post-Rock with a string section, 2 guitars, bass and a ton of reverb and delay pedals. Songs would all be 12 minutes long minimum and most would just have one crescendo that is built up to for the first two thirds of the track. LOADS of tremolo guitar playing (reverb essential).

Alternatively, the band I do play in (sort of Alt/Prog/Noise Rock type stuff, hard to name a genre but we've been dubbed 'nuclear prog' by contemporaries, I'm happy to go with that) is pretty ideal musically for me:

Then again, the acoustic quartet I play in is great fun, and I love all the music we play and have written:

But now it occurs to me, the fusion piano trio I've started recently....

Ok, enough self promotion :) , I think from typing this message I've learned that my ideal music is that which I'm playing at that moment in time.. not exactly the worst way to be..

3. Just to add, if anyone lives around Liverpool area and wants to go to this event:

5. Not exactly sure which board to stick this on as its not really a recording or a gig or whatnot, but I thought I'd share it as a fair bit of works gone into it and there are a few cool bits of bass playing related stuff to find, aside from the actual tracks you can listen to.

Anyway, enjoy:

6. Reckon you could move quite a few on ebay long as it was east to search for.

Found this today, bit pricey when buying a few but looks like its the right thing:

7. The ones with a male barrel connector on each end, I've got a 5 way powerbank for my effects case but only two of these connectors, can't find any others anywhere.

Anyone know where to get them from?
Cheers,
Oscar.

8. The bass guitar is a beautiful instrument, there's obviously a reason you chose to play it. Its always good to bring in inspiration from as many sources as possible but you should embrace and explore the sound of the instrument, how its played and people who play it.

Here are a few pieces from Billy Cobhams 'I Want To Play For You':

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uImG6vNldIo

Really though, I'd recommend that any bass player gets this album, listens to it and learns everything they can. I've gotten through 5 or so of the tracks on it now including the opening and closing solo bass performances and its been worth every second I've put into it.

The bass solo from this Billy Cobham band performance is exceptionally well choreographed, though it does go on for a while, benefited me a lot to learn this whole track and its great fun:

This is a fun track, there's only a tiny little bass solo (which is niice) but there is LOADS of fun and challenging bass playing to get into here:

9. Music is a very subjective field, therefore a new approach is required for each student. It cannot be taught analytically so I use a system of bricolage to guide each pupil through their learning with a tailored system of personal guidance, development and discovery and facilitation. It is only through this personal exploration that the student can truly understand and internalise the abilities and knowledge required to build their expanding skill set as a musician. It is the teacher's job to guide the student down this pathway of learning and provide them with the insight and knowledge they require to develop.

Initially getting into music through depping for the bassist of a folk Céilidh group, I quickly became interested in Jazz and Experimental genres, and have studied these extensively throughout my development as a musician. I have been gigging persistently over the last three years in a vast variety of genres and contexts including playing live Jazz-Fusion gigs and purely improvised ensemble performances. Have maintained an intensive practise routine throughout this time. I have also been hosting a regular Jam Night and playing house bassist for that, being thrown into many musical situations and having to react on the spot to them. I have done miscellaneous work as a session player including being regular stand in with professional Rock/Blues/Funk trio 'The Paul Poulton Project'.

I have studied all bass playing techniques (that I've been able to find or come up with myself, at least) and consider myself competent at all of them. My 'bread and butter' is fingerstyle and I often utilise a Stanley Clarke'esque Slap/pop technique to bring a sense of dynamics into my playing. I employ a hybrid 'unified' technique, where rather than playing many different ways and switching between them I strive to amalgamate all techniques into one which can react timbrally and technically as the music demands. My biggest playing influences are Stanley Clarke as mentioned, Paul McCartney, Charles Mingus, Michael Manring, Scott Thunes and Steve Bailey.

Over the last three years a major part of my life has been my studies at the University of Chester. I have just graduated with a 2:1 BA Hons degree in popular music specialising in bass playing and session musicianship.

Look forward to hearing from you :),

Another good couple of Stanley Clarke tracks:

11. Both great condition, I'll sell for money (will have a look at comparable prices in a bit and put values on them) but I'd prefer to trade for an interesting/good sounding bass fuzz with ideally not too many dials, willing to trade down if its something that appeals to me.

Cheers,
Oscar.

12. I play in a Fusion/Noise-Rock improv trio called 'Ghost Ship In a Storm' (didn't find out it was a Jim O'Rourke track until later.. I wanted to be called 'Spectrum' after Billy Cobham but lost the coin toss). The other players are a Jazz/Experimental guitarist and a virtuosic drummer who can play whatever he wants... flawlessly.

Anyway, we did a handful of gigs and got asked back a few times! Reliantly got drunk before each one and had a laugh. One of our sets was taped, I have the video somewhere (on a tape.. surprisingly) but I've only got the audio on my computer. Interestingly, a rapper joined up with us for a number and made up some words about cars, women and money.

Here's the links to the whole set cut up:

One especially fun gig (actually might have been that one) we were drinking free at the venue so we were druuuuuunnnk, we were taken backstage by the promoters later on after our set and interviewed for a documentary they were putting together. When we'd been chatting earlier on I'd been saying how I can do backflips (putting my hands on a persons shoulder either side, mind) and this came up in the interview, resulting in me getting peer pressured to do it on camera ha. Luckily I survived
