1. The serial no. is T002848, which apparently dates it from '94/95 and was made in the Fuji factory. My other MIJ Jazzmaster is from 1986, the first year of production for Japanese Jazzmasters. What's different about the Q series?

2. On the way to the dentist the other day, I popped into Cash Converters, just to seeif they had anything interesting. There was a red Jazzmaster in the shop window. It looked nice, but I thought it might have been a Blacktop, which wouldn't have been of real interest to me.
Once I got home, I started having doubts that is was a Blacktop, and a bit of googling confirmed it must be a CIJ.
I went back yesterday and after a bit if haggling, it was mine.

I'm going to swap the black scratchplate for a tort one, the (very) white pup covers for aged ones and get some white witch hat knobs. Ultimately, I think I might get some Novak Gold Foils for it too.
So, that's Jazzmaster no. three then!

Acoustics: Indie IJ-20 Special (one-off prototype); Indie IHD-30S; Indie IEA-30B; Indie ID400SM (one of 20,all solid wood); Indie ID-20-12. As you can probably tell, I'm a big fan of Indie acoustics. It's a shame they don't make them anymore.

Pedals. This is an old picture and I have over ten more now.

New bass rig, so new I've yet to let rio with it yet. Trace Elliot AH150-11 amp (not sure which mark) and Ashdown MAG 210T and 115 cabs.

I'm currently gassing for a Squier Jaguar and Fender Jazz bass.

5. I started out playing bass on my own recordings, mainly as I kinda knew what I wanted, and it wasn't what any of my bass playing friends would do.
It's only relatively recently that I have been playing bass in bands. Although my previous project ended quite acrimoniously, I really learnt to love playing bass while involved with it, so I take that as a very positive thing. I'm playing bass in a three-piece band now and loving it!

6. Colin Greenwood from Radiohead. I think the man's playing is incredible and he serves the song perfectly.
Mike Mills from REM. not a fan of the later stuff, but his sense of melody is amazing. A big influence on me, for sure.
Simon Raymonde from Cocteau Twins. I'm probably biased here, because they're my favourite band, but a unique style which fits the music perfectly.
Andy Hummel from Big Star. Another melodic player whose influence is apparent in a lot of bands, yet never acknowledged.

7. Here's mine! Firstly, my '74 Sunburst. I bought this back in either '84 or '85 from WAM Music in St Neots for £135.

Secondly, my Squier precision Special. I bought this a few years ago from Cash Converters, Huntingdon, for £29. The sign said 'electrics not working'. Yeah, well superglue and blu-tac aren't the first choice for solder replacements! I had to buy some new pots, knobs, a new scratchplate (someone had painted the original matt black. Badly), a new set of strings and had to tweak the truss rod as the previous owner had slackened it off completely. Plays nicely now and has a very appealing scooped tone.

8. Egmond Kansas 1EB1S semi acoustic from the 1960/. Build quality is awful, but it does have a very appealing woody tone.
Indie IEA-30B electro-acoustic
Fender Precision from 1974. I paid £135 for it in "85
Fender Pawnshop IV (just took possession of it on Saturday)
Rickenbacker 4001 from 1973. Paid £299 for it in 1990. The nicest bass I've ever played.
Squier Precision Special. Got this from the Huntingdon Cash Converters a few years ago for £29. The electrics weren't working, but blu-tac and superglue aren't well known for their conductive properties! I replaced the scratchplate (the one that was n it had been painted Matt black. Badly) and had to tweak the truss rod , but it has turned into quite a nice instrument.

9. Hi, I'm not entirely sure how it has taken me so long to find this place! I'm not solely a bass player , but I play bass in one band and everything else in another. I ended up playing bass n my own material as I could never find anyone else to do it! I think this was a blessing in disguise, as I find it an immensely satisfying instrument to play.
I have a '73 Rickenbacker 4001 (bought from the Drum and Guitar Centre in Cambridge, 1990 for £299!) , a '74 Fender Precision, a Squier Precision Special I bought from Cash Converters for £29 and tarted up, a 60s Egmond Kansas 1EB1, and Indie electro acoustic and my most recent acquisition, a Fender Pawnshop VI, which I am bonding with extremely well. Plus a whole load of guitars....
At the moment I'm still using my Orange Crush 35B which is *just* coping with the drummer's new kit. I'm definitely on the lookout for something with more heft! I'm also using a load of self-built pedals, including a clone of the Catalinbread SFT (which I love), a clone of the D*A*M Meathead Deluxe dark Silicon fuzz, an opto-limiter and a Musicman Stingray 2-band eq in a box, which works nicely with the Squier.
Cheers,
Mark.
